Sojourn House is a one level 1550 square foot house with a large back yard with patio. Well built in 1958, it has high ceilings, hardwood floors, and newly remodeled bathrooms. We've renovated the kitchen, and it is stocked with all the dishes, glasses, cooking pots and utensils you could want. Hand-made vintage Oriental rugs are throughout the house. There is original art on the walls, some interesting antique furniture and luxurious bed linens.
The living area has two comfy sofas, a fireplace, a reading chair, cable tv, and a semi-antique Persian Sarouk carpet.
The dining table adjusts to seat four to eight. A Persian Sarouk carpet which matches the living area finishes the room.
Two of the bedrooms have queen beds, and two bedrooms have pairs of twin beds..There's another four-person table off the kitchen. The large backyard with patio is 80 feet by 120 feet.
We now offer free Wi-Fi!
Imagine an island the size of Manhattan, but with only 10,000 residents. Imagine 250 miles of paved road with only three four-way stops, and no other traffic lights. Don't expect souvenir shops or glitz. Vashon Island is "upscale rural" with a large arts community. Live music in several venues every week-end. A difficult nine-hole private golf course. Four excellent restaurants.
Our only 'chain' eatery is a Subway Sandwich Shop. No shopping malls. You can get here by ferry, private boat or small plane. But there are no taxis or car rentals. No hotels or motels. Great views of Puget Sound and Mount Rainier. The beach is about two miles from the house. While sojourning on our Island, you may visit the lighthouse, go beachcombing, kayaking, fishing or diving.
You can bicycle our hilly roads, play golf, or walk one-third mile from the house to a restaurant or movie in the village. Enjoy Vashon Island Golf and Country Club guest privileges including swimming, dining, tennis, and golf. This is a great equestrian island, with lots of trails (horse rentals available).
Seattle and Tacoma are a 15 minute ferry ride away. There is also a 10 minute ferry to the Olympic Peninsula. Catch a metro bus into Seattle where the opera and theaters are world class. Tacoma's great Point Defiance Zoo is walking distance from the "South End " ferry landing.
Day trips are possible to Crystal Mountain Ski Resort, Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, the Olympic Mountains and Hurricane Ridge, and the Hoh Rain Forest. One family even went to Victoria, British Columbia on Vancouver Island in a day... but that is a pretty long day!
Please note that we do not charge a "cleaning fee".

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1993
My husband, Neil, is a retired Boeing engineer, and I'm an antiques dealer. I had "Owen's Antiques", an antiques shop on Vashon Island for 24 years, but now sell exclusively on the internet. We golf, and play duplicate bridge. We are theater and concert enthusiasts, and enjoy traveling in Europe. Neil skis, and has climbed Mt. Rainier twice. We lived in Teheran & Isphahan, Iran for 2 years. I sing in the 80 voice Vashon Chorale. I enjoy decorating and choosing the furniture, art and accessories at Sojourn House. Neil is active in Vashon's Rotary Club, and is on the board of the island Food Bank. He also helps coach the High School Golf Team.
Why the Owner Chose Vashon Island
We live on Maury Island, which is connected to Vashon Island. We live in a 2-story house on acreage. We bought Sojourn House to be our down-sizing retirement home. Sojourn House is all on one level, which is a big plus! It is very centrally located near the small town of Vashon, so we'll be able to walk to the stores, and flag down the bus just across the street. Although the lawn is big, it's flat and much smaller than our current property.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Because we plan to live at Sojourn House someday, we are constantly upgrading and maintaining this attractive and well-built 1950's period "ranch-style" house.

Sojourn House is special and comfortable. You have a nice mix of down home feel and international flare. The San Blas Indian textiles are so special, ETC! Thank you.

This was the perfect accommodation for our stay on Vashon Island. We were so comfortable in your home and loved having the space to share. We loved our meals at "The Hardware Store" restaurant and highly recommend it to all. Our hope is to return some day for a longer visit and we will certainly remember Sojourn House.

I was prepared to be very happy with the location because my sister had told me that we were only a few blocks from "downtown" Vashon, but we were all delighted at the details of the house--everything has been well-thought out, so many special thoughtful details. We also enjoyed the eclectic combination of antiques with modern. The house is very neat and clean also. When I return to Vashon, we will stay here.

Thank you for providing such a lovely home for us. As soon as I walked in, I felt enfolded in peace and welcome. Each time we returned to Sojourn House it was like coming home. To me, a house is not a home without books. Imagine my delight when I found books - mysteries to Virgil - in the room where I slept.

Thank you for a very pleasant stay. Now that some of the others have seen the house, they are enthusiastic about returning next year. Sojourn House is perfectly situated for our group's needs, and I think that next time we would have a full house.

We have really enjoyed your lovely home here on Vashon Island. This morning we were greeted by a young deer, who was munching on your herb garden. We are birdwatchers. We saw ospreys at Pt. Robinson Lighthouse, and some interesting ducks at Fisher Pond. The hummingbirds love your "red firecrackers" in the backyard. Thank you for making our visit here enjoyable.
