We enjoyed our stay and this house is very charming. Eddie picked us up from the local airstrip and gave us a tour of the caye and stayed in contact with us during our entire stay. He's an absolute gem! If you want relaxation and privacy El Fuerte will provide that and more. It's just steps away from the ocean and a short walk to the grocery store and bakery. We rented bikes and enjoyed the daily ride into town. If you're planning to visit San Pedro I highly recommend El Fuerte!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at El Fuerte was a blast! The owner is a great person to deal with and very fair. We had this trip planned and paid for last year. We had to postpone one year and it was non problem for Kristy. Eddie the property manager is awesome! He's a great person to know on the island, he seems to know everybody!! El fuerte gives you a great "local" experience. We made friends with our neighbors and the neighborhood kids. There so many great adventures available to you on this island!!! The reef is incredible!! Mayan ruins, zip lining, cave tubing, restaurants, beaches....I would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

It is impossible to go wrong by staying at El Fuerte. I came with my boyfriend & enjoyed every minute of it. The house is absolutely beautiful and well-very maintained. All the rooms are spacious, clean, and comfortable. The house is secluded enough for quiet relaxation but still in walking distance from all the fun activities (snorkeling is a must!!). Also, the house manager Eddie will complete the trip. He is unbelievably helpful with all your needs & such a nice person. San Pedro is an amazing island full of culture, things to do, picture perfect scenery, and let's not forget great food. El Fuerte is the place to stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Love this place. It's always a little hard to tell from photos how a place will be. El fuerte is what you want. As the owner describes, it's a Spanish-style casita, so thick adobe wall that keep it cool, tile floor and lots of wood. Two bedrooms, good air-conditioning when you need, plus plenty of shuttered-windows which is what we did most of the time. A walk-in shower to get the dust off as well as a fully-equiped kitchen. We had eight friends over for dinner one night. Good grocery stores are just down the alley. The manager was helpful, friendly as well as picking us up and dropping us off from the airport. It's a wonderful place in a quiet part of town just steps away from the beach, what more could you want?Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Two girlfriends and I stayed at El Fuerte and had a wonderful experience. It was so nice to come home to a private house with a kitchen and living room. The porch is nice to sit out on in the mornings or afternoons. We felt safe in the house and did not have any problems by being in the neighborhood. Air conditioning was nice after a hot day and there is wireless internet if you need to connect. The beach was about 30 seconds walking from the door and there are several resorts in walkable distance where we used lounge chairs and docks! Town was about 15 minutes by bike and we were happy we didn't stay right in town.It was more relaxing to be a little outside town. The best part of this house is EDDIE!! We weren't expecting the house manager to be other than a contact in case of emergencies, but he went above and beyond. He met us once we arrived on the island and showed us around town pointing out the best restaurants and getting the layout of the town. He helped us pick up groceries and shared some great stories. He was available for any questions and frequently called to ask if we were ok or if we needed anything. The house is a great home base whether you are coming to San Pedro for relaxation or adventure.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

EVERY SINGLE TIME I COME BACK TO BELIZE I WILL STAY AT EL FUERTE!!! For our inaugural yearly trip to places around the globe, one of my best friends and I chose El Fuerte. It was PERFECT!!! The caretaker, Eddie, and his wife picked us up from the airport in their golf cart, and shuttled us through town south to the house. We stopped at the little grocery store at the top of the street on which sits El Fuerte and then the vacation began. Eddie had put flowers in the house from the beautiful bushes outside, and the place was immaculately clean. Both beds are comfortable, and the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils, pots and pans, plates, cups, etc. From the front door it only takes about thirty steps and you're on the beach between a massage studio on a pier and a hotel with a great restaurant and bar on the water. Throughout the week we made friends with the neighborhood kids, dove with Amigos del Mar (great suggestion, Eddie!) ate at WIld Mangoes in San Pedro Town twice (yum!), and the list goes on. Eddie stopped by a couple times during the week to check in on us, and see what else we needed. He is spectacular! The owner Kristi Remy and her husband built the place as their home away from home several years back, and you can see how much the Remy Family loves it by how much care has been taken in keeping the place up. It was great to wake up every morning, and be able to have our own private kitchen, dining room, living room and front yard. If we had gone to a hotel, we would have spent much more money and not been able to have the same relaxing, perfect trip. Our friends that came over to visit were so envious and inspired by our choice. In fact, we loved the house rental so much that when we go to Thailand next month, we are forgoing a hotel in Phuket to again have the same private space. It makes all the difference in the world. When you seemingly live out of a suitcase and hotel room like I do, a place like El Fuerte really does become home. It was PERFECT thanks to Kristi and Eddie! Ever Sincerely, Rayna LayneRecommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I am sorry to say that I cannot recommend this rental although the owner and caretaker were VERY helpful before I arrived and once I got there......however, it was not the peaceful place I thought it would be - barking dogs and roosters crowing at ALL hours of the day and night.........could even hear them from the beach when walking by after I had moved to another lodging.......alleyway from main street to rental very unattractive with garbage visible.......I understood that I was to be in a "neighborhood," but the neighboring "houses" were right up against the rental property and again, very unattractive yards visible........rental itself was darker than it looked in pictures.......beach "view" very overstated.....could glimpse it when standing up in front yard..............although clean and well-maintained there were lots of ants throughout, especially in the bathroom............ I wanted a quiet place to relax - don't need anything fancy, and it is NOT just me who can't stand the noise - I spoke with a woman who owns a spa on the beach in front of the rental and she says she hears the animals all the time also and other renters have abandoned the property as I did....Owner response: After 13 years and many many positives reviews, I found myself having to respond to my first negative review EVER! I had many exchanges via emails and phone calls with this guest where I voiced my concerns about her staying in a private home located in a neighborhood ,She was traveling alone and I felt her needs would be better served in a resort atmosphere. She was insistent about staying with us, now I know why. I did everything but fly this guest down to Belize on a private jet and personally cook her daily meals. After she returned, she asked for money back. I did give her a partial refund although, my rental agreement is very specific on such refunds.. She wrote me a letter and expressed her gratitude… . I was surprise she didn’t mention that in her review I can’t fathom why it took her 6 mths to voice her complaints on the VRBO site. I have not had any dialogue with her since I made the concession on the money. I did reach out to her after I received the negative review, but I have had any reply to my emails. The ones that are really being hurt by this negative review are the folks of San Pedro, Belize that work tirelessly to make sure our guests have a wonderful experience. Eddie, property manager, and my staff are amazing and they love their native home of San Pedro. When traveling to a Central America country, please keep in mind: there are no zoning restrictions, ants will come in-esp after a rain, locals raise their own food and judging the way less fortunate people live is unacceptable!! I don’t find it necessary to address her statement that she heard that other guests have had a similar experience, my reviews don’t reflect this. After dealing with this guest, I am even more thankful for the wonderful and grateful guests I have had the pleasure to serve over the past 13 yrs. I guess one bad review in all these years is not too bad and the valuable lesson learned is priceless.

The house of El Fuerte was everything I expected and I felt like I was at home in San Pedro. The people were so nice and helpful in finding us anything we wanted. We snorkled at Shark Ray Alley and it was absolutely beautiful. Eddie made sure we taken care of and was helpful in anything we need to know. He was just a call away if we needed him and also give us all the privacy we wanted. Thank you Eddie!! We rented a golf cart for the week and highly recommend that to anyone coming to the island because that is the mode of transportation for everyone. We went everywhere!! I already miss the house and one day would like to go back.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wow, what an amazing vacation we had at this lovely home. From our first contact with the extremely helpful property manager/owner to the day that we reluctantly had to return home, this was a first-class experience. The home is lovely, clean, comfortable and perfectly located. There are so many exciting things to do in the area to fill one's days, but it was tempting just to spend the days lazing around the house, enjoying the gorgeous weather, the beach, and the peace and beauty. We are already planning a return trip with our son and his friends to celebrate their graduation. I highly recommend this home, the lovely El Fuerte to anyone who is planning a visit to Belize.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I wanted to get away and experience island life and it was paradise!! The house was our home away from home with an island flare. We enjoyed a glass of wine on the porch every evening. The water and beaches were beautiful and the Pina Coladas and food were even better. Eddie the house manager took care of our every wish - snorkeling, fishing, jet skiing, sightseeing to the Mayan Ruins, spa treatments, and golf carts to get around the island. We can't wait to return next year for a longer stay!!! As they say on the island - It was "unbelizable".Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We got married on the beach of Victoria House & we spent our honeymoon at El Fuerte. We were looking for privacy with all the eminities of home & we got both. The property managers are great & they took care of arranging all our excursions. Even got us a great price on a golf cart. We welcomed the opportunity to travel back to SP & El fuerte. Thanks for sharing your home with us. :)Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We were looking for a hassle free, relaxing sunny get away spot filled with lots of adventure, WOW!! We found it!! We couldn't believe how helpful the property owners were. They helped us with transportion from the mainland too San Perdo and arranged for some one to greet us at the San Perdo airport and helping get us to the golf cart rental company, then showing us some of the area on our way to the house. Words can not describe this beauitful home The house had everything we needed to make our stay very comfortable it was like being in our own home. Each day started of with coffee on the porch and ended with star gazing in the hammock and in between we filled the days with snorkeling, scuba diving, golf cart riding, sight seeing, taking a mainland tour of the mayan ruins as well as a few island water tours followed up with dining at the many area restaurant spcializing in the island cuisine. The memories of our stay are in abundants and we look forward to returning in the future. We highly recommend this vacation home for your relaxing vacation spot.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent a memorable week at El Fuerte for our 25th anniversary. It offers the perfect combination of privacy and access to everything San Pedro has to offer. The property manager took care of everything from airport transportation to golf cart rental to arranging our fishing and snorkeling excursions. Staying in a home gave us the opportunity to experience this beautiful paradise in a way most tourists don't usually get to do. We highly recommend renting a golf cart and visiting BC's beach bar!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
