Canandaigua cottage description
Nestled on a quiet dead end road at the south end of Canandaigua Lake, this turn of the century vintage cottage has served as a summer home for the same family for generations. Turning back to a former time-a simpler time of family vacations on the lake with campfires and days on the water. This seasonal cottage entices everyone with its rustic charm, huge sun porch, country kitchen, and unsurpassed views and lake frontage.
The home has been modernized to offer modern comforts such as microwave and a small TV with VCR, yet it remains kept with antiquarian charm. There is a wood-burning stove to take the chill out of the cool nights in the cozy sitting room.
The heart of any house is the good old country kitchen. This homes kitchen has four ring stove top, full refrigerator, all cooking equipment and ample dishes and plates for a large gathering and outside the kitchen door is a traditional bell to ring and bring the children from the lake for family meals.
The antique oak dining table is a perfect place for a romantic dinner for two or for the entire family to gather to have an evening of reflective conversations and competitive board games.
Fresh breezes blow in from the adjacent enclosed screened porch,a perfect place to greet the morning or soak in the rays of the setting sun. The colorful radiance of this room hugs you with joy and happiness. The large farmhouse table, cushioned couch and chairs, and Adirondack chairs create an atmosphere that may inspire the artist, sip a morning coffee or evening cocktail from this perfect area. A place for reading, watching the family in the lake or at play or simply a place to have a family meal, you will never want to leave and will always await your return.
The large family bathroom is situated on the ground floor and has a shower, toilet and sink and plenty of room to dress or change.
Upstairs the home has traditional furnishings and décor and 4 bedrooms
1 Queen Bed
1 Double bed
2 Twin beds
1 Twin bed
The cove that the cottage fronts has one of the best views on the south end of the lake – quiet clear waters and two level shelving shallow beaches gradually sloping into the lake. This makes swimming and water play terrific for children and adults alike. The setting is magnificent with a large level grass area with shade trees and a permanent dock for your boat. Swim, fish or simply watch the sun go down. There is a swing chair and a fire pit to toast marshmallows and tell stories and ample beach chairs for a perfect day or night on the lake shore.
Situated 30 minutes from the town but ideal located for daily trips to the local attractions including Wineries, Water parks, farm markets, Watkins Glen, Outlet shopping and all the Finger Lakes region has to offer this is truly a secluded vacation memory maker, with families returning year after year.

DO NOT RENT!!!!
DO NOT RENT!!!!
Pictures and descritptions are not accurate. For starters this is not lakefront. There is a road running between the lake and the house. Not safe when you have 4 children under the age of 6. The second issue was cleanliness. There were cobwebs everywhere that looked like they had been there for months. The fans for the bedrooms were covered in dirt and dust, which we had to clean just to use. Third, which was the worst, BUGS! We were fully aware there was no AC, however the screens were extremely old with holes allowing every bug to welcome itself into the house. The screen doors did not shut completely. The bathroom at night looked more like an out house as it was swarming with mosquitos, moths, flys, and worms. The living room floor was covered in bugs, which we stepped on every few steps. The kitchen was also full of bugs, making it impossible to keep any food out on the counters. The cottage is extremely old, not an issue, but it is not well kept, and we questioned the safety espcically the electric. There were outlets with 6 to 8 cords all plugged in. Not very child friendly and also a huge fire hazard. One of the bedrooms didn't even have an outlet to plug the fan into. The beds were horrible, mattresses had to be at least 20 years old. Overall camping in a tent would have been more pleasant, especially for the price. I would NOT rent this place. It could be nice if the owners would make a few changes with new window screens, mattresses, and also market it accurately. We stayed one night and left the next day, it was the WORST night! We did receive a refund, however where charged for the one night, which was ridiculous considering the conditions.

Manager response: RENT THIS PROPERTY!! Pictures and descriptions are accurate….The road in front of the house is a dead end, single lane, access road leading to the remaining handful of properties at the end of the lake. There is no thru traffic. This Rustic Cottage IS lakefront property! When this family rented, they were made aware of the appropriateness of the setting for children. They knew of the road. It is a wonderful spot, one of our most popular for families. We always inform potential renters of appropriateness of each property for families with children, elderly, pets, etc. That is our job. Cleanliness… this property, as all properties we represent, goes through a deep Spring Cleaning at the beginning of each season and additional cleanings after each rental to prepare for the next guest arrival. It was no different here. As to bugs….. This is an old 1800s cottage, it is impossible to prevent insects, flies, mosquitoes, etc., from entering as people move about, especially in a wooded lakeside environment. We did repair two screen issues. Her description of the bugs and worms in an interior, windowless bathroom is beyond belief and accuracy. Our company has been renting this property for 8 years, and has a history of 55 rentals. Families love it; secluded, economical, beautiful lakefront and vast beach. This renter was very young with a young family and apparently was not fully prepared for the type of setting in which she rented; it appeared she had not done a rental of this type before. This is not a corporate resort hotel property. As a young mother with 4 children under 6, she probably misinterpreted the setting and, being protective of her children, reacted in a way to place blame on us, resulting in the most vicious review we have ever experienced. We did not have another property available at the time, so we refunded her payment, and contacted other local rental agencies in an effort to find another lake rental. Reviews are fine when they are accurate…. but this was an emotion fueled attack. When she contacted us, we wanted to come to the property to investigate her complaints and make every effort to resolve any we found. She refused our visit, and demanded a refund, reinforcing the view that she exaggerated issues to exempt herself from blame in choosing the wrong type of vacation for her young family. HomeAway/VRBO simply will not remove a negative review, no matter how inaccurate. Call us!! 2500 word limit reached
