Great Turtle Villa is accessed via all paved roads, a rare amenity on St. John and very welcome in a tropical downpour. It is located in the comfortable, upscale neighborhood of Upper Carolina. Surrounding homes are on large lots hidden by lush foliage which provides lots of privacy. Enter Great Turtle Villa's drive through an electronic gate which not only adds extra privacy and security but it also keeps the wild donkeys out!
The front door opens onto the larger pavilion's main level which contains the attractive living and dining areas and the fully-equipped gourmet kitchen with a marble-topped work table and breakfast bar. In the living area, a flat-screen TV, stereo, DVD, plus music and video libraries, provide indoor entertainment. The fully-equipped kitchen boasts stainless appliances, granite counters and enough dishes, bakeware and pans to satisfy the most particular chef. Hand-polished mahogany screened french doors open onto spacious shaded decks with cushy rockers and inviting chaises perfect for enjoying the cool tradewinds. Why the Owner Chose Coral Bay
We had sailed in the Virgin Islands for 15 years with our 4 children and came to love St. John. When our children started having children of their own, we decided it was time to get land based and built a home that would be comfortable for all of us. Now we have 10 grandchildren who all come to visit us in St. John and have learned to love it here as much as we do.

Heaven in Coral Bay

This is a wonderful house. You would have to search very hard to find anything wrong with it. The house is located in a very quiet spot but short ride to Coral Bay or beaches. The views are to die for with views of Coral Bay and BVI's. It is so tastefully decorated. Kitchen has absolutely every utensil in it that you could want to cook a wonderful dinner. We dined on the porch almost every night. The set up of the bedrooms is perfect. Everyone has their own private space with their own bathroom. We had two requests for the property manager, Nancy and within hours of requests everything was taken care of. She really made herself accessible. The grounds are well maintained and the pool was spotless. People really enjoyed staying home and just limin out at the house. We have rented many, many houses in St. John over the last 25 years and this house is the best!!!
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers, girls getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This house was perfect for us in every way. The space was ideal for the three couples for interactive time and alone time (actually, two more people would have been fine, but there were only six of us). The spectacular view wowed us...I mean, we saw the pictures, but until you're there, you don't really believe it! Every one of us loved the colors, the beautiful screen doors... these are just details, but every single nuance helped to create a feeling of abundance and luxury...and yet, not pretentious. Very nicely done! While there was barely a reason to leave, we did venture out a bit. Did a little shopping at Mongoose Junction and some of the other Cruz Bay shops. We also enjoyed the local Coral Bay offerings, including some live music at Island Blues and cocktail hours with delicious appetizers at Aqua Blue. We loved breakfast at The Donkey Diner. Four of our party had a blast with Captain Bob and Matey on the Spree 2...and rather than snorkeling, as most passengers do, our four decided to drop in on the two of us who were enjoying a day at Hawk's Nest beach...so we all swam together for a while...fun! Every morning was a time of exploration for my husband and one of the other guys. And from sunrise to moonlight, we all were refreshed by time in the pool. Vacations are funny...it matters who you travel with, how the weather cooperates, can you find things to do / eat / enjoy in your chosen destination...but ultimately, it really matters if you have a home base that welcomes, nurtures, and serves you well. Great Turtle Villa did this for us superbly! And kudos to Kathy, the owner for being so accessible and helpful as we planned this trip.

We just returned from our stay (Feb 21-28, 2009) at Great Turtle Villa. The house was perfect! It was well maintained, very functional and the view was fantastic. We explored much of the island of St. John and were always happy to return to the villa in the evening to relax, swim in the pool and take in the view. WOW!

This home is absolutely spectacular! The views are breathtaking and the home is very clean, luxurious, and had everything we needed (each room even had its own bathroom)! I never wanted to leave! My family and I will be sure to return again and again. I highly recommend staying here!

This place is a slice of heaven! We loved the layout of the house and its gardens. It is so well maintained compared to the other St. John rentals we've stayed at. The best part about this neighborhood is that it's so close to the best beaches and Coral Bay, and also just a short drive into town. The location is great, but we ended up staying in many nights because the views from the deck beat any restaurant on the Island!

This was our young families 3rd trip to St John in as many years. We have a 5 and 3 year old and really love St. John. We have stayed in the Coral Bay area before (a little lower down the mountain) and Great Turtle is head and shoulders above the others as it is higher up the mountain and has fantastic views of Coral Bay. I travel a lot for business and we take many family vacations for skiing and beaching each year and have stayed in many wonderful homes and Great Turtle is right up there with the best of them. The home is nicely appointed and well maintained with a wonderful pool (5 feet deep) that the kids just loved. Villas in Coral Bay provide great value relative to the few one's available on the North Shore and it is just a hop skip and jump to the beaches from the villa. If you want to be close to Cruz Bay I would recommend staying closer to Cruz Bay as it is a bit of a drive into town (but we only go into town once or twice on a weeklong trip anyway) as all of our driving is to/from the beach and down to Coral Bay for groceries or to eat (although there are fewer places to eat in Coral Bay but we find the selection is just fine). I highly recommend this villa for families or couples as the bedrooms are seperated and the pool is wonderful (and can be gated off if you have little one's that do not know how to swim yet).
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, tourists without a car, families with young children, families with teenagers.
