Only minutes from the beach and the amenities of bustling Kapaa town, a farm stay at Steelgrass allows you to learn the botany and horticulture of vanilla, timber bamboo, and theobroma cacao, the chocolate tree, while enjoying everything Kauai has to offer. The 3,000-square-foot Hawaiian plantation-style farmhouse, with its huge lanai, overlooks our eight-acre stream valley, planted in hundreds of varieties of tropical plants in addition to the crops we grow for sale. Bamboo varieties include over a score of species, traditionally used for timber, furniture and musical instrument making.
Amid our groves of chocolate trees, bamboo and vanilla orchid vines, tranquil, orchid-studded garden paths wind through our valley, providing a perfect meditative setting. Visit our website for more photos of the farm.
With an extensive horticultural and general-interest library, the farmhouse comfortably sleeps six in three large bedrooms. Two baths are augmented by an outdoor bathing garden overlooking the farm and stream valley, where you can shower off beach sand before you go indoors, or luxuriate in our large soaking tub. The open plan living/dining/kitchen area opens onto the lanai, with its spectacular view of the farm and Sleeping Giant Mountain, and the big, fully-equipped kitchen is a gourmet cook’s paradise.
We provide extensive information on sustainable diversified agriculture, and your education about tropical farming includes a concentration on cacao. You'll learn how to harvest and ferment the ripe chocolate fruit, how to ferment the beans, and then turn them into fresh chocolate. There are three different varieties of cacao, called forastero, trinitario, and criollo; to sharpen your awareness of their flavor profiles, you will enjoy a blind tasting of eleven of the world's most delicious dark chocolates.
If you’re musically inclined, Steelgrass Farm also includes a state-of-the-art music recording studio, housed in a separate building. Complete studio specs and a gear list can be found on our website. Please call or email for information on studio use.

It was a restful location with fabulous tropical flowers and fruit trees. through out the trails. It is in a perfect location for visiting all the local and tourists activities. Check them out. The island is amazing. Take a gander at the art in the home, very unique. The four of us would definately go back again. The best of the three islands we visited.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

Base rate of $175 per night is for two adults. For additional adults, we charge $25 per person per night. No charge for kids under 18. Guests pay Hawaii tax plus a one-time $95 cleaning fee.
