Why the Owner Chose Ellijay
The Coosawattee River resort has great ammenities for children of all ages. We also like the security of being inside a gated resort, with trucks patrolling the area routinely. Although it is a resort, it is also very private with beautiful large lots. Of course, we were drawn to our particular cabin for the wide river frontage.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We love being able to walk upriver and tube right down to the cabin. No long lines, no time restrictions....go at your own pace. So many things to do in the area, but you can be just as entertained and happy to stay right there and make it your home away from home.
Guests beware! Our cabin is situated on a private road. It does NOT show up on Google Maps or any other fancy GPS gadget. Use our directions! We've pinpointed the closest address that is provided.

Not long after my husband and I started dating, we had the opportunity to visit the North Georgia mountains and fell in love with the area. For the first several years of our marriage, we would take monthly visits from our metro-Atlanta area home to have breakfast at the Amicolola Falls lodge. Once I even rode on the back of his motorcycle all the way there! When our daughter was old enough to share in this tradition, we would take her with us. Even though we only live an hour away, things become so much different as we approach hwy 515--the air is crisper and the pace is slower. We are now very happy owners of the Shady River Retreat. We think of this cabin as a gift God has allowed us to share with our now three children, our extended family, friends and guests. We hope others make this a yearly tradition--that's how it all got started for us!

Thank you Jennifer and Lonnie for opening up your cabin for our fabulous family vacation!! This was such a relaxing time where we could all reconnect with each other. Our two sons, their wives and our three little grandchildren - Noah 5 1/2 years, Brannon almost 5 years and Natalie almost 3 years old really enjoyed the river. Tubing was such an adventure and wading/playing in the cool water was refreshing. We enjoyed walking and exploring and took tons of pictures. We loved the camp fire and making s'mores. One day was spent riding the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway but otherwise we did not feel the need to go anywhere else. There were plenty of games at the cabin but would recommend bringing additional paper supplies and your own body wash/soap. Stocking up before you settle in is best because you won't want to leave!

Just returned from the cabin and it is beautiful. The pictures of the river do not do it justice. It is so clean and gorgeous. Plenty of pots and pans for cooking, hot tub worked great, and the fire pit by the river is great. I liked this cabin because it is not a long walk from the river to the cabin and the driveway is not steep. We are going to come back in the summer to do some tubing . We really enjoyed our weekend and we will be back this summer.

My wife's family lives in Georgia, and we thought that we would rent a cabin to serve as a "home base", and visit relatives from there. When we got to the cabin, everything was as advertised- the place was clean, quirky, well furnished, and comfortable- We had some family members stay with us on Christmas night and we all had a wonderful time. My wife and i have decided to rent the cabin again this coming summer in order to take advantage of the river activities. We had a great time!

Our family enjoyed a wonderful 2 nights at this beautiful cabin. Nestled in the Coosawatee River Resort, this cabin is exactly as advertised. The photos don't lie - it is just as well-appointed and cozy as it looks. We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back another time to enjoy!

This cabin had everything we needed! Wonderful location on the Coosawattee River, comfortable beds and furniture, fabulous screened in porch, and a great hot tub. And I loved having a gas stove! We saw wild turkey, Canadian geese, white egret, and deer. Hated to leave. A great place to celebrate our 29th anniversary.

This cabin was incredible! I needed to get away and I wanted a mini vacation, I found this cabin at the last minute and was everything I had hoped and wanted it to be. Provided with this cabin were four tubes which we drove up the river a couple of times and tubed down, perfect for tubing! The pool table was a hit as well, but not as much as that awesome fire pit, which is right on the water. This cabin is even better than you can imagine. We didn't even use the resort pools or other options due not wanting to leave the cabin! Jennifer Elwood was fantastic to work with and super friendly, I felt like I was renting from a friend! This cabin will remain on my list for future getaways.

we only had a brief window that we could get away during spring break, but the accommodations at shady river retreat helped us make the most of it. we took our own food and never left the property, except to stroll down the road and view the river and the other houses. the kitchen is fully stocked with all the equipment you'll need, and the firepit (with firewood included!) makes hot dog and marshmallow roasting a breeze. the screened porch is HUGE, and the perfect place to read or eat meals at the picnic table. We were also amazed that there were 3 separate, spacious sleeping areas, each with its own full bath. this makes returning with extended family a real possibility! wish we'd had time to take advantage of the indoor pool and the other amenities, but here's to a next time!

What a beautiful and romantic getaway to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Although our trip was cut short due to an unexpected snowstorm, I have to say the cabin was everything I had hoped it would be: Inviting, comfortable and well kept.

Just a short note to let you know we really enjoyed our vacation at the cabin. The Smores were a nice surprise especially since my granddaughter asked me on the way there if I remembered to bring marshmallows. The water was a very nice surprise.
