This cabin was beautifully decorated with a full kitchen and gorgeous views of the river. We enjoyed the screened in porch and the loft style bedrooms. The only thing I would recommend to the owners is to maybe invest in a flat screen television. The tv was fine but we had planned on hooking up our netflix account to watch movies through the computer but were unable to do so because the tv was not compatible with that type of technology. We have had stayed in other cabins in the area that were just as nice as this one but we had to pay almost twice the price for the other cabins and the other reason we loved this cabin is because they allowed us to rent it for only 2 nights where as most agencies insist on a 3 night minimum during peak season. We would definitely recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a quiet weekend away.

We truly feel as though renting by owner allows us to "share" our cabin with friends since we are able to personally connect with our guests via phone or email prior to the arrival. This allows us the benefit of excellent guests who take care of our home so we can keep our rates reasonable. Thank you for pointing that out! Great Family Weekend

Our adult children and their partners joined us for a weekend at the cabin on the river. We fished, kayaked and sat around the fire at the river's edge. The cabin was great, nicely furnished with plenty of space. We spent most of our time outside, from morning coffee on the porch to a campfire at night. Bring supplies and don't leave the whole time you are there!

AMAZING!

This was by FAR the most BEAUTIFUL PLACE we have been. Words can't even begin to describe our stay. We stayed for a week but could've stayed a month! The accomadations are fantastic and Jennifer was a joy to work with. Evenings were spent around the campfire and days tubing down the river. FYI...if you put your tube in at the Riverside Pool you are looking at a 3 1/2 hour jaunt to the cabin...lol. Again, this was an unbelievable vacation and I can't wait to return. Thank you Jennifer!!

Great Spring Getaway!!!

Just returned from a two night escape to this lovely location and loved it. The sound of the river rolling by and birds chirping was all I heard. Enjoyed the crisp mornings and graciously warm afternoons. The cabin is well appointed and kept up well compared to previous cabins I have rented. Jennifer was great at responding to questions and her directions were great. Thanks for a fabulous family getaway.

Just returned from the cabin and it is beautiful. The pictures of the river do not do it justice. It is so clean and gorgeous. Plenty of pots and pans for cooking, hot tub worked great, and the fire pit by the river is great. I liked this cabin because it is not a long walk from the river to the cabin and the driveway is not steep. We are going to come back in the summer to do some tubing . We really enjoyed our weekend and we will be back this summer.

My wife's family lives in Georgia, and we thought that we would rent a cabin to serve as a "home base", and visit relatives from there. When we got to the cabin, everything was as advertised- the place was clean, quirky, well furnished, and comfortable- We had some family members stay with us on Christmas night and we all had a wonderful time. My wife and i have decided to rent the cabin again this coming summer in order to take advantage of the river activities. We had a great time!

Wonderful Stay in Ellijay!

Our family enjoyed a wonderful 2 nights at this beautiful cabin. Nestled in the Coosawatee River Resort, this cabin is exactly as advertised. The photos don't lie - it is just as well-appointed and cozy as it looks. We enjoyed our stay and hope to come back another time to enjoy!

Great cabin - great location!

This cabin had everything we needed! Wonderful location on the Coosawattee River, comfortable beds and furniture, fabulous screened in porch, and a great hot tub. And I loved having a gas stove! We saw wild turkey, Canadian geese, white egret, and deer. Hated to leave. A great place to celebrate our 29th anniversary.

A Perfert Retreat

This cabin was incredible! I needed to get away and I wanted a mini vacation, I found this cabin at the last minute and was everything I had hoped and wanted it to be. Provided with this cabin were four tubes which we drove up the river a couple of times and tubed down, perfect for tubing! The pool table was a hit as well, but not as much as that awesome fire pit, which is right on the water. This cabin is even better than you can imagine. We didn't even use the resort pools or other options due not wanting to leave the cabin! Jennifer Elwood was fantastic to work with and super friendly, I felt like I was renting from a friend! This cabin will remain on my list for future getaways.

a short drive to a complete getaway

we only had a brief window that we could get away during spring break, but the accommodations at shady river retreat helped us make the most of it. we took our own food and never left the property, except to stroll down the road and view the river and the other houses. the kitchen is fully stocked with all the equipment you'll need, and the firepit (with firewood included!) makes hot dog and marshmallow roasting a breeze. the screened porch is HUGE, and the perfect place to read or eat meals at the picnic table. We were also amazed that there were 3 separate, spacious sleeping areas, each with its own full bath. this makes returning with extended family a real possibility! wish we'd had time to take advantage of the indoor pool and the other amenities, but here's to a next time!

Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

What a beautiful and romantic getaway to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. Although our trip was cut short due to an unexpected snowstorm, I have to say the cabin was everything I had hoped it would be: Inviting, comfortable and well kept.

Thank you Jennifer and Lonnie for opening up your cabin for our fabulous family vacation!! This was such a relaxing time where we could all reconnect with each other. Our two sons, their wives and our three little grandchildren - Noah 5 1/2 years, Brannon almost 5 years and Natalie almost 3 years old really enjoyed the river. Tubing was such an adventure and wading/playing in the cool water was refreshing. We enjoyed walking and exploring and took tons of pictures. We loved the camp fire and making s'mores. One day was spent riding the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway but otherwise we did not feel the need to go anywhere else. There were plenty of games at the cabin but would recommend bringing additional paper supplies and your own body wash/soap. Stocking up before you settle in is best because you won't want to leave!

We loved Shady River Retreat. Jennifer is a pleasure to deal with. The location was great cabin was well stocked. Even had tubing rafts and life vests. So relaxing. My 7 and 9 year old loved it and we all loved the relaxing river and tubing. One of the best vacations we have ever had.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful three night stay, with our 19 month old daughter, at The Shady River Retreat. The entire experience began as a positive one as the homeowner, Jennifer, is so courteous and friendly. We were happy with the cabin and the ammenities that came with it. Unfortunately, on this trip, we didn't have a chance to enjoy river activities like tubing, canoeing, or wading in the river, it was just too chilly but we enjoyed two nights of fires beside the river and roasted hot dogs and marshmallows. It was also very enjoyable to listen to the river from the cabin. Our daughter loved the screened in porch and the huge swing on it. She was thrilled by all the Canadian Geese that were spotted on the river too. I am sure you will be as thrilled with this place as we were. Just be sure to bring you cooler fully stocked with supplies as it's about a ten or fifteen minute trek to the grocery store and once you're at the cabin, you won't want to leave!

Once in the gates of the resort, it was like no resort I had ever experienced. The curvy scenic dive was beautiful, peaceful, and just plain gorgeous. Deer and wildlife abound! Not to mention, we were blessed to be there on the rare occasion on which it snowed. Littering the branches and ground for days, was beautiful dazzling snow and ice sickles. Ellijay is a hidden gem! And the river was so beautiful! What a spectacular view! We hope to come back again when it is warm so we can explore the waters of Coosawattee River and tube down it’s current. The kids loved it and are begging to come back with friends. It was a great sign when they didn’t want to leave the entire weekend! We took a nature walk and happened on our new collection of sparkling petrified wood that now adorns my hearth (arranged by the kids). And the blankets provided were so furry and comfortable, the kids want new ones for lounging at home. The pool table and hot tub deserves recognition as well. Fun! Fun! What a great trip for family or a girl’s weekend. Although they say it sleeps nine, it really is laid out for even more guests. I would (and will) highly recommend it to anyone! The Elwoods were really nice to work with and made me feel so comfortable renting. Make sure you get their directions or you are sure to get lost. The hills and dips and turns kept confusing the GPS system. Be sure to stop at Wal-Mart on your way in – you won’t want to get back out. And don’t forget your sweetener for the coffee. However, the owner was just as helpful and pleasant as she could be! When we arrived at the cabin, it was just as the pictures depicted. The view of the river was FABULOUS and my children absolutely loved wading and splashing around in the water. The pool table was another hit with all of us. There were several activities close by that we really enjoyed-picking apples at BJ Reece's (the fried pies are heaven), riding the Blue Ridge Railway, golf, picnicking at Amicolola Falls, but we had just as much fun hanging around the cabin. The hammock was peaceful, and many hours were spent on the porch swing, talking and laughing. We also spotted about 12 deer and 6 turkey. Everything we needed was provided in the cabin, so we never had to made trips to town for anything-other than food. I knew it had been a great vacation when my daughter sobbed the night before we left, "I don't want to go home!" (And she is a home body!) It was hard to pack and leave that last day, but we have memories, photos and video to take us right back-not to mention this website!"

Jennifer & Lonnie, Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. It was a wonderful and relaxing week. The river is great and the kids loved it. We saw lots of deer and geese. The house is just great. We are all looking forward to another visit. Only one thing could have been better. We love the cabin, we have been there 3 times now, and are looking forward to enjoying all again. The best part is no matter the age (kids, teenagers, and adults), we all agree we love Shady River Retreat. Thank you... The Smith's, Villa Rica, GA

We had a beautiful relaxing day. We so enjoyed playing with the kids. It was such a treat to just listen to the river, hear the thunder, and feel the hot sun! Thank you for inviting us to spend time with you! I can't wait for the guys to see the Elwood's "Shady River Retreat".

I have been coming to Ellijay for the past 7 years. Will hopefully be a full time resident. You are very generous to allow complete strangers to stay in your magnificent cabin! It is definitely a stress free, happy place. It is warm and cozy, fun and spiritual! Thank you for a wonderful experience.

We had a great time while we were here. The weather was beautiful. A little colder than expected but it was still nice. We built fires in the fire ring and roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. The guys fished. We love the screened porch. We will definitely be back. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We have enjoyed our stay. The porch is very relaxing and the view of the river is great. We built a fire in the pit and roasted marshmallows. We did a little fishing, but did not catch anything. It is always good to get away with family and friends. We pray God blesses your family in a special way for sharing your home with others.

This weekend was amazing. Pure tranquility! We experienced it all, relaxing nature walks, grilling out, dips in the hot tub, roasting marshmallows and making smores and let me not forget that peaceful river sound to sleep to at night. What a rejuvenating time in our lives. We would love to com e back and make many more wonderful memories here. Thank you so much.

This is our second time here. We had such a great time! It is so beautiful. Every day was beautiful. We saw deer every day as we were riding on our four wheelers. We roasted marshmallows and hot dogs. We built a fire almost every night. We even saw 14 deer our first day. They slowly passed by us as we sat in the woods on our 4 wheelers and we saw on wild turkey and of course the geese. This a great place across from the river. We love it and we’ll be back.

We had a wonderful time. Beautiful cabin, we were able to experience it all, cold, snow, sun, rain. (Ha, Ha). We look forward to visiting again maybe when we can play in the river.
