Moneta, Smith Mountain Lake, Virginia... Roanoke is 45 minutes; Lynchburg is 60 minutes. The Townhome features Four Bedrooms, Three Baths, and Sleeps Six.

Bernard's Landing Resort is the premier vacation destination at Smith Mountain Lake. It has seventy-four acres on a peninsula between the Roanoke and Blackwater River channels. Surrounded by water on three sides, it is beautifully landscaped and maintained. It is truly a place that begs time to enjoy.

The accommodations onsite consist of the Peninsula Townhomes (considered to be the top accommodations), Patio homes, and Condominiums. The amenities are second to none, and are: two swimming pools, a kiddies pool, a hot tub, ladies and mens saunas, a weight and exercise room, and six well-maintained tennis courts. Also onsite is an award-winning waterfront gourmet restaurant, and waterfront Tiki bar lounge, a marina, a sandy beach, boat ramp, and boat docks.

Our waterfront Townhome is located on a beautiful large cove with direct access to the Roanoke main channel. It is centrally located, with the clubhouse, pool, hot tub, saunas, weight and exercise room, and tennis courts just across the road. The restaurant, Tiki bar, and marina are only a short walk away.

The entry level has a master bedroom with a queen bed, TV plus a DVD player, a twin bedroom, and a full bath with tub and shower. The full kitchen has a microwave, toaster oven, four-slice toaster, and blender as extras. The dining room and living room, with woodburning fireplace, overlook the lake, and are beautifully furnished plus a 40 inch HDTV and DVD/VCR combination.

There is a covered, wrap-around deck with a chaise lounge, a glider, patio table and chairs, and a picnic table for outdoor dining. The view from the deck across four miles of open water to the mountains that plunge into the lake is breathtaking. Sunrise over the mountain is spectacular, and is not to be missed. The moon coming up behind the mountain, and reflecting off the water can be the beginning of a night to remember!

There is a loft bedroom with a queen bed, a large dressing/closet, and a private full bath. a TV/DVD. The ground-level has another master bedroom with a queen bed, TV and VCR, a full bath, and a wet bar and game table. There is a full covered deck just outside the sliding glass doors with a patio table with chairs, a gas grill, and a porch swing. Right in front of the Townhome is a floating dock for you to tie up your boat and PWC’s. The washer and dryer are also on this level.

For your relaxation and enjoyment, we have a selection of VCRs and DVDs (both old and new) and an assortment of card and board games including poker. Our unit provides all linens, towels, and paper products. The only thing you will need to bring is your food, if you want to use the full-size kitchen.

If you prefer to dine out, there is a world-class gourmet restaurant overlooking the marina a short walk away. The cozy Tiki bar, open year round, offers entertainment during the summer, and a snack bar is located at one of the pools. There is a boat ramp on the property. Boat slips for your boat are located in front of the Townhome.

Smith Mountain Lake is the largest freshwater lake in Virginia. It covers 22,000 acres with a shore line of over 500 miles. The water is clean and clear and over 40 miles long. It offers some of the best water-sports and fishing on the east coast. Some of the fish caught are Blue Gills, Crappie, small and large mouth Bass, Stripers (current state record), and Muskie. A number of Bass Tournaments are held here each year, and personal fishing guides are available for all levels of enjoyment.

  • Comment Text: Our group of six women had a great time at Mr. Thaxton's townhouse/condo. It is a very spacious waterfront unit with great views of the lake and mountains. With this weekend's chilly weather we especially appreciated the living room fireplace! The home is stocked with everything you need for a great vacation:a fully equipped kitchen;lots of spare blankets for chilly mornings; washer and dryer; games and videos; linens, towels and paper products. This unit is directly across from the clubhouse which has an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, workout room, handball courts, and libraries stocked with books. There is also an outdoor pool (which was closed for the season) and outdoor hot tub (which was not hot enough to stay in when the temps were in the 40's) and a small game room outside. Bernard's Landing is a short (15 minute) drive from grocery stores, drug stores, shopping, restaurants and anything else you might need. We especially enjoyed our dinner at Blackwater Creek. Mr. Thaxton called early in our stay to make sure everything was as expected and has been very easy to deal with. We will definitely rent his place again if we return to Smith Mtn. Lake.

  • "Our Vacation Aug 8 - 15th 2009" "The rental unit was lovely and very spacious, even with our " eclectic" crew of people. Many generations happily co-existing!! Our special needs child was quite happy with the many televisions! The unit is located right on the lake which is quite beautiful and the lower patio and upper deck were such a nice bonus. We spent our evenings on the deck enjoying the view and feeding the ducks. We plan on returning next summer. One could not ask for a nicer place to visit and it was such a pleasure meeting Henry. He has a kind heart and a great spirit. Thanks, Susan ( to include my mother and sister who vacationed with us)"

  • We had a wonderful time at the Lake. The owner of this unit could not have been nicer or more accommodating - truly a delight to deal with. The property is ideally situated close to sandy beach, pool/clubhouse, restaurant, marina and dock. The view is completely amazing and we enjoyed sunrises daily on the deck as well as sunsets across the street at the sandy beach. Every convenience and amenity is provided and the unit was quite clean. A wonderful place to stay and I'm sure we'll be back.

  • We had a wonderful time at Smith Mountain Lake and the townhome was great!! It was really clean, had all the amenities we needed, and best of all, had such a beautiful view of the lake and Smith Mountain. The dock where we kept our boat was just steps away. Overall this was a great vacation experience! The owner is so nice and friendly, we highly recommend renting this townhome!!

  • One of the best we have found on the lake WV Visitor Charleston, WV Review Submitted: July 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009 This townhouse came with everything (and more) advertised on the site. We have been vacationing on the lake for 22 years and have found Bernard's Landing as the place we keep coming back to visit. This unit was very close to all the amenities of the Bernard's Landing. It provided the perfect spot for photography from the deck, was clean, roomy and most of all had the best customer service we have ever experienced at SML! We loved walking across the street to the tennis courts too. Bernard's Landing has something for everyone all within a safe, well maintained, park like setting. We hope to be back next summer.

  • The townhome was very nice and clean and had all the necessities available for a care-free family vacation. The location of this townhouse is ideal for many reasons. It is directly across the street from the resort pool, game room & hot tub, making it very easy to navigate, especially if you have children (we had 4 in the age range of 8 thru 12.) It's also within a short walk of a very nice restaurant and boat rental. However, the best part was the location on the lake which made navigation of our jet-skis a breeze. There were many safe places really close by to take the kids tubing and wakeboarding. Also, the dock directly behind the townhouse was perfect for docking and mooring jet-skis and tubes. Additionally, the staff at Bernard's Landing were incredibly nice and welcoming. Finally, to echo another guest's comments, the owner of townhome is one of the nicest people you will ever deal with. I have no hesitation in recommending this townhouse to others and would strongly encourage you to make contact with the owner. I was certainly glad I did as the end result was a wonderfully peaceful family vacation during the summer of 2008.

  • Excellent! The accomodations were everything we were led to believe they would be. The unit was clean. The decor was well-done and very comfortable. Excellent location just across the street from a pool with 2 docks readily accessable for fishing or docking. The sandy beach was a real treat for our 2 small grandchildren who are, as yet, unable to swim in the lake itself. We hope to go back again. Soon!
