September Hiking

Another wonderful 2 weeks at your house. The location is absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed many mornings & evenings kayaking on the pond & in the brook -- a place of peace & serenity. Did a number of hikes in the White Mtns & saw several moose. I love it here & hope that one day it will be my permanent home. Your house is wonderful and I so appreciate your friendliness & hospitality.

Had a great time, the cabin is great and everything you need. We had fun canoeing and kayaking on both lakes and hiking up Black Cap Mountain. Super relaxing and our dogs had a great time too. Thanks to our great hosts.

Amazing trip!

We had an amazing time this week! The view of the lake every morning was breath-taking. We saw a deer, some moose prints (but no moose). We did a lot of canoeing and fishing on the lake. We went to North Conway & Fryeburg. We went horseback riding in Attitash, Bridgton, Stow and Lincoln. Thank you so much for your hospitality, it was an amazing trip.

We had a great time this week. We hiked province trail and saw a bear, and on the drive back saw a moose! We also visited the emerald pool which was very refreshing. Fishing was great as we caught a number of large bass and other fish. All of us spent time kayaking and canoeing on the lake and enjoyed the tranquility of the place. Thank you for your hospitality.

We had an awesome time. The view was great and the cabin was perfect. We did a lot of canoeing and fishing! Not to mention the weather wad beautiful. There were so many places right up the road for us to take our dog. I think she had more fun than we did! Just kidding ... :) Thank you for your hospitality and your help with finding things to do.

Wonderful vacation spot.

We had an awesome week on Kimball Lake. The house was clean and well stocked. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed being able to kayak and canoe on the lake. Our teens enjoyed fishing in the evenings. They each were able to catch at least one large fish. We were very fascinated by the loons. The hiking in the area was awesome and our son really enjoyed mountain biking. So many things to do, so little time!

Kuiet on Kimball

My husband and I and four of our children stayed in this house over an extended Columbus Day weekend this past October. We found that this house was a very short commute to the Fryeburg Fair, through back roads, and were very pleased with the location. We attended the fair for 2 days, from sun-up till past sun-down and were tired, chilled and exhausted upon our arrival back to Kimball Lake. The house was a perfect resting place for us and I could best describe the house as "cozy, quiet, clean and comfortable." We were very happy to use the wood stove in the family room as we caught up on some old movies. All of us had great night sleeps! The kitchen was well stocked and we definitely saved some money by having a few meals here. Margaret and Frank were very accomodating and although we didn't really have time to enjoy the lake, they had plenty of fun "lake toys" on hand. Thanks Margaret and Frank. The kids loved the fair and would very much like to return to try the pig scramble! Hopefully, we'll return soon. Maureen in Rhode Island

Nice New Hampshire getaway

We spent September 10-13, 2009 here and had a fantastic time. The house was clean and well stocked. It didn't phase us in the least that the TV didn't work, we brought plenty of DVD's. The house is very close to the lake which you can clearly see from the screened in porch and deck. We went with another family, in total 4 adults, 3 boys ages 5 and under, and 3 dogs. The guys had a great time fishing on the lake with the kids, we had great walks with the dogs and the boys couldn't get enough of Storyland which was a 25 minute drive away. Frank and Margaret we very pleasant and gave us great ideas of which walks to take the dogs on and other places to see. Overall, we had an excellent weekend and didn't want to leave.

July 4th Week 2009 Stay

Guest: Pappa Bear (NY)
Date of Stay: 07/04/09 Review Submitted: 08/12/09

We were disappointed with the location since it is not on the lake, the lake photo was taken from the neighbor's house. Also, there is no TV. They do not have cable or satellite so there is only a very small TV from which DVD's can be seen which was a problem when we wanted to look at the local weather for plans. There really is only 1 bathroom since the second one is in the basement, yet the bedrooms are on the first and second floor. People who stay in the bedrooms on the second floor have no bathroom facilities on that floor. Overall, the place was quiet, but very plain. It worked okay for us since we made this a trip for our dogs. The home is for sale and in need of some updating. There isn't any beach area for children. The lake had decent fishing (bass only) near the island on the south side of the lake. No local supermarkets or good restaurants without traveling at least 20 minutes away. We were disappointed and decided to cut our trip a day short.

Owner response:The house is set back about 250 feet from the lake, but the property extends to the water. The claim that the lake photo was take from a neighbor's property is entirely false. Photos of the lake on HomeAway sites were taken from the house, either from the screened porch or the deck, two great locations for lounging and watching loons on the lake. The photo "Pappa Bear" refers to is probably the one on VRBO (labeled "loon on Kimball Pond"), which was taken from my kayak in the middle of the lake. Everything else in the review is true. The place is QUIET! You can find plenty of shopping and restaurants about 20 minutes way in North Conway, but our cottage is in a serene spot away from all the traffic and hubbub. Decent fishing? The author of this review caught a 4-pound bass in the lake. Best areas for fishing change according to the date, weather, and time of day. If the fish aren't biting in Lower Kimball Pond, you can try your luck in the Upper Pond. It's literally just steps away, and we provide a canoe on a wheeled trolley for your convenience. Almost always, your "small fry" will have lots of fun catching our small fry right at the water's edge. The little fish like our waterfront, even if "Pappa Bear" didn't. Our water frontage is not a beach, though it is gradual entry, with enough shallow, sandy bottom for small children to play. In dryer years there's a strip of sand above the water line, but heavy rains this year have raised the water level considerably. I'm always happy to email more photos and details about the waterfront. Just ask! As stated in the property description, the house has 2 full baths with tub-showers. One is on the main floor and one in the unfinished basement. The house was built in 1973 as a vacation home, so it's just a simple cottage, not a palace. You will find it spotlessly clean, and well stocked with bath towels, beach towels, and everything you might need in the kitchen. No TV (since the switch to digital). There is a radio; you can get weather updates from the Mt. Washington observatory. Bring DVDs, or just go out on the deck, make a fire in the pit, and gaze at the stars ... we have fabulous night skies. Funny, every time I talked to this guest during his stay, he told me everything was great & even came to say thanks before leaving. He only became dissatisfied when I charged his security deposit for damages incurred by his dog. I refunded it when he made a fuss, but I guess he just couldn't let it go.

Perfect location, home and very helpful owners

If you want a clean, well maintained home, on a lake near every amenity, you want to come to Frank and Margaret's beautiful home on Kimball Lake. Frank and Margaret thought of everything to make our stay fabulous. 4 Adults, 2 teens, 2 kids, and 2 energetic labs had a great vacation at this house. The dogs may have even had a better time than we did-if that were possible. The pictures and descriptions were accurate. Everything was spic and span. Margaret and Frank helped us find family friendly hikes with spectacular views, secret fishing spots, yummy restaurants, swimming holes and even delicious blueberry picking. Our favorite thing was getting to see a moose on Hurricane Mountain road. Lots of homey touches and kitchen and bathroom's well stocked. A great plus was the clean sheets and plenty of towels. All we had to bring was ourselves and any food we wanted. If every vacation home owner were this terrific, and every vacation home this perfect hotels would be out of business. Nearby North Conway is so much fun and there is such an abundance of activities in the White Mountains we ran out of time and the only way to do it all is move here.

"What a wonderful place! My dogs and I went on some terrific hikes including Blueberry Mtn. Went kayaking on the Saco as well as the 2 local ponds. Heard the loons a few times during my stay. A very peaceful place! I feel rejuvenated and rested. The house is great & the location is wonderful. I plan to return in the near future."

"Just a short stay before going back to London, but relaxing and fun. We enjoyed paddling around the lake, exploring the brook and swimming from the pontoon - lovely soft water. ... hiked to some beautiful falls and enjoyed views of the mountains. ... Many thanks for making the house so comfortable."

"2 adults & 4 teenagers - oy! Plenty to keep everyone busy and happy. The two oldest teens checked out the brook early in the a.m. looking for moose. All 4 kayaked & canoed the entire lake. No moose, but the two younger ones saw a bald eagle, and we all enjoyed seeing and listening to the loons. We all trekked up Baldface. The kids did Mt. Washington (via Tuckerman's Ravine). A relaxing day on the Saco was a great way to rest tired legs between the two hikes. This is a great spot"

"When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised how big and beautiful the house was. We enjoyed canoeing in the lake and trying to catch some fish. The kids saw their first beaver (mom too!) We also enjoyed how quiet it was. We had a great vacation -- couldn't be better! Hope to come year after year for some great memories."
