Casa Escuela Bilingüe is available for rent from mid-April through December, including Christmas/New Year in 2009 . This lovely and colorful home is located in the heart of San Miguel! Walking through the patio gates, you are welcomed into a beautiful garden of large mature trees, flowering plants and fountain.
From the garden, you will step into a very pretty and colorful living room with fireplace, dining area and kitchen, all open to each other. A large study is just off the living room where there is a fold out sofa-bed for guests and a full bath. Tiled stairs lead you to the master bedroom with queen bed, fireplace, private balcony and full bath. Across the landing is a wonderful covered terrace, complete with built in sitting areas and views of the interior courtyard below and the surrounding hills.
Another set of stairs leads you to the roof top terrace where you can enjoy views of the surrounding city.
There is a housekeeper 3 mornings per week as well as a full laundry for your personal use. Property managers are just a block, or a phone call, away, and are available 24 hours a day.
Filled with folk art from Mexico, Alaska and Asia, and without a square corner to be found, Casa Escuela Bilingue is friendly, comfortable and whimsical. Its location is perfect in the "Centro" district, a 5 -10 minute walk to the Jardin, the Parrochia, Instituto Allende and all the interesting sights, restaurants, shops and educational opportunities that San Miguel has to offer.
Great shopping, restaurants and groceries are just steps away on San Miguel’s best shopping street, but the passageway and gate create a very quiet location. Within one block in either direction you’ll find several fine restaurants, San Miguel’s best deli, a small supermarket, a dairy store with really good yogurt and great Chiapas coffee beans, and a store for organic vegetables. If you’re looking for gifts or souvenirs, just steps away are several wonderful shops for talavera pottery and tiles, Oaxaca rugs and interesting clothing, as well as shippers for shipping anything home.
Casa Escuela Bilinge began its life as a two-room bilingual school in the 1950’s owned and run by noted educator and writer Augusta Irving Ramirez. The current owners, retirees from Alaska, connected the two classrooms and added a second floor. But since they love both San Miguel and the Pacific Northwest, they leave this home in the hands of professional managers part of the year so you can enjoy it, and enjoy San Miguel, as much as they do!
