Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2006
We have been vacation owners for the past 4 years and enjoy having the rental business. Russ is an Audit Partner with a major accounting firm, while JoAnn manages the daily activities of the rental properties. We have a daughter Danielle, who is in college, 3 dogs, 1 chinchilla, and an organic garden at our home in Del Mar, California that keeps us busy. Russ was once a commercial fisherman and still spends his free time on the ocean as well as in the ocean in southern California, as a free diver, spearing white sea bass and yellowtail.
JoAnn was raised in northern California and loves to return to the Mendocino coast whenever possible. The northern coast allows us to fish for rock cod, salmon, sometimes albacore, and of course, the wonderful abalone that is native to this area. Mendocino is a tranquil, stress-relieving place where we can completely escape and relax.
Why the Owner Chose Mendocino
We both love the ocean and beauty of northern California. We usually make an annual trip to go abalone diving or with friends to the wine country. On one of those trips we decided to look at the local real estate as a long term investment/retirement home. After looking at just a few oceanview properties we knew we'd found the perfect home in Sea Ridge. Sea Ridge is nestled on 5 acres in the pines, with no other homes in sight, and quiet enough to enjoy the wildlife and ocean. Mendocino is just 15 minutes north, and the rapidly growing Anderson Valley wine region is 20 minutes inland. Just a short walk up our road are sheep, emus, deer, wild turkeys, and an occasional bobcat. Having a home in northern California affords the best that the beautiful state of California has to offer.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Sea Ridge has beautiful ocean views from most every room in the home. Much of the 5 acres is usable, and the paved private driveway is unique. The home is all single-level and feels very spacious, with numerous windows and skylights. There is a kiva fireplace in the main living area, and woodstove heaters in each bedroom for extra coziness. The kitchen has a variety of cooking utensils as well as generous bathroom baskets of those items you may have forgotten. All the linens and bedding are high quality, 100% cotton, down blankets, comforters, a variety of pillows, and large soft towels. There are toys, DVDs, VHS movies, crafts and games for the kids. The home was previously owned by two local artists who have since moved out of state, and they have left their colorful spirit throughout the home. Guests have often commented how warm and welcoming the house is, "as if our friends just left us the keys". The home is very quiet due to its secluded location.

What a lovely home you have! Our entire group of 8 (4 couples) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sea Ridge... it's a very special house. And the view... well, what can we say except, SPECTACULAR! We had quite a treat Saturday a.m., when we all cajoled each other into getting up a 5 a.m. and were rewarded by an excellent viewing of the lunar eclipse... no fog, barely a breeze, COLD (!)... but such a memorable experience. The dogs couldn't have been happier with all that yard space to romp in as we sipped wine and enjoyed sunsets from the deck. The hot tub is so perfectly situated, we've dubbed it "the infinity tub"... :^) We all loved how thoughtfully laid out the house was, with personal decks and views of the ocean... and loved how the hot tub was secluded behind the "tree"... really cool. All the special little amenities you provided were wonderful, we appreciated your thoughtfulness... loved the little goodie baskets in the bathrooms, which came in especially handy one morning when my feet were icy cold and I remembered the fuzzy socks in the basket... NICE!! The house is so well appointed, we didn't want for anything in the kitchen... and we're all foodies, great cooks... we didn't eat a meal out. Very nice! It was the perfect place to celebrate my husband's 60th, we will definitely be back. Again, heartfelt thanks from our entire group (plus pooches!).

We were your guests at Sea Ridge this past week and I just have to write and tell you that in a long life I have never enjoyed a vacation rental as much as this one. There were three generations of us there, from my 85 year old self all the way to my 5 and 2 3/4 year old grandsons. We reveled in your spacious house which is so well-appointed and lacks for nothing in the way of appliances, kitchen supplies and linen. It is beautifully kept and made us feel so welcome from the moment we entered the living room with its spectacular view of the ocean. My son and his wife and their boys made ample use of the hot tub. My wife felt thoroughly at home in the kitchen and prepared gourmet meals three times a day as if she were in her own kitchen. The boys roamed the length of the house and played every conceivable game on the grounds. We had a ball watching the birds at the feeder, strictly observing the pecking order of Woodpeckers first, Jays second and then the Blackbirds and Finches. A deer paid an occasional visit and would you believe a sea lion at Greenwood State Beach actually adopted us as surrogate parents and followed us as we walked the lenght of the beach. A new experience for us, that. So thank you for creating such a peaceful, warm and beautiful place. It surely is the best that California has to offer. We hated to leave

Our party of 8 had a wonderful visit at Sea Ridge. The property is quiet and secluded, and the house allowed us to enjoy each other's company and still retreat to privacy. The owners were extremely accomodating and helpful before, during and after our stay-- it felt much more like borrowing a friend's home than renting a hotel. From kitchen to pantry to closets, the home was well equipped with all the essentials, and many entertainments as well. For a quiet retreat or a base station for exploring the beautiful surrounding area, we would recommend Sea Ridge!

Russ and JoAnne, Just wanted to let you know what a great rental property you have. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was even better than the pictures show, and the views were amazing. We brought my husbands parents for their 60th wedding anniversary along with their two daughters, grandaughter and her husband the home is well maintained and well stocked and the minute we walked in the door we felt right at home and very comfortable, not stuffy or uninviting. Very pleased. We also rented the guest house for our parents, as we knew that they would want privacy at times and turn in earlier than us younger folk, they loved that. We would definately recommend this property to others especially families, the rooms are spacious the huge back bedroom accomadates a family quite nicely with two twin beds, a crib and a queen bed as well as a T.V.and video games, just perfect for a young family and in the back so that there is an amount of privacy as well. We loved the deck and the grounds and views, the fact that it is a pet friendly property was very appealling to us as we have an adorable Lhasa Apso that travels with us. It was perfect for her, we brought a pet gate to put at the steps on the deck to keep her in, and it was perfect for her. It is nice to be able to rent a pet friendly property that doesn't look or smell like a bunch of dogs live there, it was quite nice and we would definately recommend it as a great gettaway for any family or group of friends. Again thank-you so much Russ and JoAnne for sharing your beautiful home with all of us and keeping it nice and comfortable as well. The Collins and McHaney families

Hello JoAnn and Russ I just wanted to drop a note to you to thank you so much for the wonderful getaway we had at your beautiful property. It was just a breathtaking view as I walked in that front door and looked out through the kitchen windows!! Over the course of the 4 days I was there I must have seen 100 different birds, a fox, and even some whale spouts off in the distance. What a peaceful place to regenerate and relax.....it was incredible!! After living almost 25 years in Ventura, CA. I miss the ocean tremendously and being at your home made it all seem like I was there again..... There wasn't a thing that wasn't absolutely perfect!! I will keep you guys in mind in the future for short little get aways...thanks again SO much

We, 4 adults, thoroughly enjoyed every minute at Sea Ridge. It was great that our dog was welcome and he enjoyed the stay as well. Although this is a pet friendly house, all the furniture was clean, spot free and very comfortable. The house is large and easily accommodated us. The kitchen was well stocked with every utensil imaginable and there was plenty of firewood for use in the large fireplace. The ocean view was great - we saw whales from the deck more than once with the house binoculars. The location is an easy drive from Mendocino and just a short jaunt from Albion where we had a great dinner at the the Albion River Inn. We're already talking about staying at Sea Ridge again next year.

Our family spent the weekend in Dec. We loved the home--very large and comfortable. We had ample supplies of linens, kitchen ware, cooking supplies, and paper ware. We all loved the Sleep/Science mattress in one of the bedrooms, and our children ordered one for us for our upcoming birthdays--thank you for introducing us to the mattress. The view of the ocean is spectacular, and we enjoyed our walk on the beach. We definitely would rent this home again. Bunny and Jim

We spent a week at Sea Ridge in July and found the accommodations, location, and amenities fabulous. Throughout the week, at any given time, there were 8-10 of us, yet it never felt crowded. There is plenty of space to find your favorite reading (or napping spot). Also, gorgeous views of the ocean. We enjoyed watching the constant stream of birds stopping by for a snack. And at night from the hot tub, viewing a glorious abundance of stars. We had the fireplace going through much of our stay, which added to the coziness. We cooked most of our dinners in, and found all the pots, pans, utensils we needed. As for eating out, Queenie's Road House in Elk is a must. You will not be disappointed! We will return to Sea Ridge again!
