A two story home located on seven acres of pasture land surrounded by Norfolk Pines, peace and privacy.
This fully furnished home has 3 queen size beds and 1 full size bed. All amenities are taken care of including linens, fully stocked kitchen, basic cable TV, vcr, cd players and telephone.
Located on the edge of the town of Na'alehu it is only a five minute drive to the town center for groceries, banking, fuel, a library, post office, and at least two homestyle cafes. In the center of town is the Punalu'u Bakery revered throughout the Island for its sweet Hawaiian bread and assortment of malasadas (Portugese doughnuts), all baked fresh daily.
Na'alehu is midway between Kona and Hilo, at the southern tip of the Big Island of Hawaii. You can drive to either side of the Island, Kona on the West or Hilo on the East, at a relaxing and leisurely pace, enjoy the many unique little towns, beaches, shops, museums and art galleries along the way to either side and still have plenty of time to return home for dinner on the 3 lanais at sun set.
Black Sands Beach and Golf Course is within 15 minutes by car and Volcano Village and Volcano National Park are only 35 minutes away. Volcano Village has become a center for local artists with many opportunities to see their work in shops, studios, gallerys, etc.
A unique Island experience on your own 7 acres of privacy. An opportunity to live amongst the local people, shop at the Farmer's Market every Wednesday and Saturday, hike, golf, go to the beaches or just sit on your lanai and soak in the peacefulness.

We spent a week here and loved it. It is lovely and peaceful. The gardens have matured since the photos so it's even prettier and there are lots of fruit trees including lilikoi, fig, papaya, avocado, orange, etc. The sunrises from the lanai were beautiful (we're from the US east coast so getting up early was easy). The house is well stocked with non-perishables like condiments, rice, cooking oils, etc. so no need to buy those. You'll need to buy perishables like milk, cereal, veggies and meats. Kitchen is well stocked with cooking/eating utensils. Local restaurants: Shaka, Hana Hou and Punaluu Bakery were not fancy but very good. Farmer's market in Naalehu on Wed and Sat was bigger than I thought with very friendly folks. Shirley, the neighbor/caretaker is very friendly but not intrusive. Owners were easy to work with when making arrangements and communicated promptly. There is much to do on the Big Island, more than you can do in a week, for sure. Naalehu is not in a resort area so if that is your thing, you will have to drive a bit. But for those wanting peace and quiet and a more rural setting, it is perfect. You will need a car but many sites and activities are an hour or less from this location. Very close by are the Puunaluu black sand beach (we saw 4 seaturtles), green sand beach, South Point. A little farther is Volcano Nat'l Park, well worth the trip. Beyond that Kailua-Kona and Hilo. Even farther is Mauna Kea but also well worth the trip. We definitely recommend this home and will plan on returning. Aloha!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our family of 5 absolutely loved this place. The landscaping has grown in beautifully since the exterior photo was taken, so it looks even better in real life. We come from a small town on the Big Island, too, so we enjoyed visiting Naalehu and meals at Hana Hou. We have recommended it to our friends and family, and hope to visit again!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

The house was brilliant. The location was convenient and gave us access to nearly everything we wanted to get from a Hawaiian big-island vacation. While staying at this lovely and well appointed home in Naalehu, we enjoyed lovely views of the ocean, rolling foothills and awe-inspiring night skies. The house itself was surrounded by a wide variety of fruit trees, from oranges to avocados, mangoes to jackfruit, all of which were available and delicious. The house was a split in distance between the main entrance of Volcanoes National Park and Kona, so the sights through the area were easy to access and helped to minimize driving. We didn't make it to the north coast but we certainly didn't run out of activities in and around the south and eastern coasts of the isle. If you're up for a hike don't miss Mauna Loa road which, if you follow to the end will bring you to the trailhead of a hike to the summit and caldera of the 13000+ft volcano and provide a cloud level view of the island. (even without the hike) Certainly it makes a quick drive home after a view of Kilauea's night-time glory. You should check before you go; some supplies that every visitor must buy on their way in (sugar, flour and oil) are in good supply... so maybe no need for more :) The Pun'u'lau bakery was great, and their mac-nut sweet bread was delicious as a grilled sandwich or just on it's own. The only issue of note was the local roosters, who worked well with our jet-lag to get us up and out in time to enjoy the sights of the island, and, once we were accustomed to their... "enthusiasm" proved no impediment to a few days of sleeping in. As a bonus, they're great for exercising the little ones (betcha' can't catch 'em all!)Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We were so pleased with our accomendations that our party of five hated to leave. We found the house more than adequate for our needs, clean and welcoming. It was a wonderful place for a family gathering and also for exploring the Hawaii Volcano National Park, South Point and Hilo areas. We loved having fresh fruit picked right off the trees on the property with our meals. Mahalo to the owners and property manager for making our stay memorable!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

The description was accurate --except it was better. It was clean & well maintained and fully equiped with everything you could need. Owners very helpful and the manager who lives next door is wonderful and helpful. The yard is 6-7 acres full of beautiful sights and fruit trees--and you are welcome to partake. We spent a day just walking the property--lots of birds. There is lots to do in this area of the island so staying here is perfect. Our only mistake was only staying 6 nights. We hope to return. This a very unique and special property.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

This place is fantastic. You would be crazy not to stay here! It is extremely well equipped, clean, regularly treated for bugs and best of all, the beds are so comfortable, best beds by far in any place we have ever stayed. The property is loads of fun. Our teenagers had fun picking and sampling all the exotic fruit that grows on the property and our little ones spent loads of time chasing the chickens that roam around. It is very quit and private. You do have to drive to visit the things that make Hawaii special, but so what, I have to drive to get milk too. Shirley, the property manager is one of the nicest people we have ever met. This is the only place we would ever even consider staying in Hawaii. Thanks Denise for a great time.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We stayed a week, which of course isn't enough, but such is life. It was a busy time with all the things we wanted to see, but every day we looked forward to returning to the house. It was so comfortable, well laid out and just a great place to enjoy. We had some lemonade made fresh from the lemon tree, papaya several times, we nabbed the last orange of the season, and even some grapefruit. Watching all the creatures was great fun especially the baby mongoose. Plenty of birds to enjoy and a few geckos entertained us. We found the Malama market just a few miles away to be very nice and the prices were as good as in the bigger towns. There were 5 of us and it was unanimous - "Terrific". We loved it! Hated to leave. If you like the peace and quiet, room to take a walk, a fabulous lanai view of the ocean in the morning while you drink coffee - you better just stay here. It's a perfect spot in between Kona and Hilo - depending on your perspective not a long drive to either. (We live in Montana so an hour or so for us is nothing but a nice scenic drive.) There's plenty to see and do within 15-20 minutes, so don't think you have to drive that far to get places. We could go on and on, but we'll just leave it with - wonderful! Thanks so much for sharing your home with us! The Watts familyRecommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
