Thousand Island Park cottage description
June and July weeks still available for 2013.
A waterfront cottage in Thousand Islands Park, with an outstanding view of the River from two fabulous porches. See almost to Lake Ontario and watch the ships go by. You can almost touch them. Swimming cover outside the front door with a sandy area for the children. Nice family oriented community with summer activities. Small grocery, ice cream parlour, restaurants, and some shops.
You will spend all your time on one of the two screened in porches. The one downstairs is very large and the upstairs porch is smaller and very nice for reading and having your coffee. NIce breeze off the river. The living area is huge and there is a large rear yard with BBQ and table. There are beds for seven, but there is a double futon in the large living room and room for portacribs.
The cottage does not have a dock, but dock space is available for rent at other sites in the park.
Parking is in back of the cottage.
You'll love it.

Not Handicapped Accessible
Not Handicapped Accessible
We drove 900 miles to this cottage, planning to enjoy the St Lawrence River and to entertain family and friends from the area. Sadly, this was not to be. Upon arrival, we entered the cottage to check it out. This cottage was listed as handicapped accessible with some limitations, a step into the back door. There was an awkward step up to enter by the back door. Once inside, there was noted to be a 2 by 4 seeming to be holding the ceiling up at what looked to be a back shed which had a washer/dryer. We noted the uneven floors throughout the downstairs that were not only intimidating to someone walking with a cane, but actually hazardous. We checked out both bathrooms, upstairs and down. The abnormally low-seated toilets (measuring 15 inches from floor to seat) could not be managed by someone with an arthritic hip. The label of handicapped accessible in no way applies to this cottage. We immediately started searching for a hotel to accommodate us. Not only was this last minute but the difficulty was compounded by it being the local Pirates' week. We finally found a room, so priced that we could only book for 10 nights instead of the 2 weeks we had planned. On the following Wednesday, my sister, et al, returned to the cottage to clean it, as that is how she rolls. It was noted that the kitchen electric stove had a burner sunk down into it on top. The neighbors informed us that the previous renters had unplugged the stove as they were concerned it would be a fire hazard. Given the proximity of the cottages to each other, it is understandable that the neighbors expressed some anxiety regarding the condition of this cottage. It was also noted that the panel was missing from the electrical box, leaving exposed electrical wiring. It is a wonder that the local Fire Dept. hasn't shut this place down. While cleaning under the cushions in the living area, what seemed to be rat poisoning was discovered among the potato chips, etc., and was cleaned up. This was communicated to the owner via e-mail, just in case she rented to families with small children. The owner was duly informed of all these concerns, including the safety issues. We have indicated we would appreciate some refund as the cottage was uninhabitable for us.

One week is NOT enough
One week is NOT enough
Had a wonderful stay in this charming home. Very roomy, had everything a family of 6 could possibly need. Front porch was the highlight along with renting a golf cart. Very clean with the exception of dead bugs on the raised storm windows on front porch. Incredibly friendly neighbors to the right. Small charcoal grill was a challenge for 6 but we managed. Larger grill or even gas grill would be ideal. So much to see and do. Would definitely consider renting again.

BEST VACATION EVER!!!
BEST VACATION EVER!!!
We chose the Thousand Island Park along with this vacation rental as a last resort because my husband is on chemotherapy. So, he cannot fly nor be around large crowds. Little did we know this would be the beginning of a yearly family tradition as a result of experiencing the wonderful beauty of the Thousand Islands. This cottage was THE best. Homey, cozy, kitschy, and practically laid out with large rooms and a fantastic cottage decor. Everywhere we looked there was a detail the owner had personalized such as fishing lure ceiling fan pulls, her own artwork on the walls, handmade tile mosaics, and a well stocked library including literature on the Thousand Islands. This cottage is ideal for families with school age children as it is very close to the swimming cove. We watched not only a river otter and blue heron from the screened in porches, but also gigantic shipping freighters. The water is so clear I named the area "the Caribbean of New York". I think the interior photos of this cottage do not do it justice, much cuter in person. The only reason I would hesitate to recommend this property to anyone would be that it might make it more difficult for us to reserve in future years. We plan on staying for two weeks next year and we already have a beautiful summer home on a river!!!

Why the Owner Chose Thousand Island Park:
I fell in love with the river the first time I saw it. The community of Thousand Island Park is a lovely little village with lots of Victorian charm.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
It doesn't get much better than sitting in a rocker on the porch, reading a book and seeing an occasional freighter go by. The weather is great most of the time with blue skies and puffy clouds. Even when it's hot, there is a good breeze on the porches. If I say so myself, the views don't get any better than the ones from my porches.
