Vallejo house description
Saint Vincent's Hill House is an elegant Victorian built in the 1890's with a unique setting overlooking Vallejo Harbor with views from the Napa River and Mare Island bridges all the way to Mount Tamalpias in Marin County. It is situated in the St. Vincent's Historic District of Vallejo, and has recently been lovingly restored by the owners from the foundation to the attic.
It is a three bedroom, two bath house and sleeps five people. (This may stretch to seven including a queen aerobed upon request.) A downstairs apartment (rented separately) houses an additional four to six people. The home and apartment are non-smoking venues.
The house has hardwood floors in the living, dining, and master bedroom, and restored fir floors in the kitchen and other bedrooms. The larger bath boasts a claw foot tub with shower; the small bath has a shower. Both baths have vintage fixtures.
The kitchen is thoroughly modern while maintaining its Victorian charm, and is adjoined by a wonderful sun porch (perfect for morning coffee and twilight views). All rooms are blessed with over ten foot ceilings and period chandeliers.
There are good restaurants, antique shops, and convenience stores within walking distance from the house. A wonderful multi-cultural farmer's market takes place on Georgia Street (a ten minute walk) every Saturday morning year round.
Vallejo, once the capitol of California, is an undiscovered hideaway from which one can explore much of northern California.
FROM THE HOUSE WALKING:
*Ten minutes along historic waterfront to the Ferry Building. A 55 minute ferry takes you to San Francisco's Embarcadero and Fisherman's Wharf.
*Three minutes from the Napa River and Vallejo Yacht Club and Marina. The river front is also the site of numerous summer festivals including Jazz, Gospel, and Native American events.
*Three minutes from Napa River walk (three and a half mile recreational path).
*Fifteen minutes from Georgia Street shops and farmer's market.
FROM THE HOUSE DRIVING:
*Twenty minute drive to Napa or Sonoma Wine Country, or to the town of Berkley.
*Seven minute drive to the delightful town of Benicia where you can enjoy antiquing, sightseeing, and fine dining. From there it is a short riverfront drive to the towns of Port Costa and Crockett.
*Twelve minute drive to Infineon Raceway where there are year round events.
*Ten minute drive to Marine World Amusement Park (Discovery World).
*Five minute drive to Mare Island, the former Navy base. Here you can visit the historic St. Peter's Chapel with Tiffany windows, or the World War II Cemetery. Golf the oldest and one of the most beautiful courses west of the Mississippi at the Mare Island Golf Club (public). Mare Island also is the home of Touro Medical University.
*thirty-five minute drive to the city of San Francisco or the Oakland airport.
*Forty-five minute drive to state capitol of Sacramento.
*Five minute drive to California Maritime Academy and numerous historic museums.
In addition to the main house we offer a lower apartment(rented separately) which sleeps four to six people and is equally as charming. It has two bedrooms (one with a double bed and one with two twins), one large bath with a clawfoot soaking tub/shower, laundry room, a lovely living room, kitchen, and sunroom for dining. Here you can enjoy beautiful views of the hillsides, Napa River and Bridge, and Mare Island. This unit also is fully equipped with all kitchen and dining utensils, and all premium linens.

Our party of 5 was extrremely happy with our Vallejo Victorian experience. Everything was organized for our stay, spotlessly clean, and beautifully decorated. It was the perfect size and we felt so welcome with the light dinner upon arrival. Our hostess, Jody, was wonderful to work with. We found the property very convenient for our family wedding in Napa, just 15 minutes away. And we were delighted to find the Vallejo Ferry just down the street, waiting to take us into San Francisco. I recommend the St. Vincent's Hill House for your Bay Area stay.

Wonderful home in the north bay
Wonderful home in the north bay
This wonderful little Victorian turned out to be the perfect home away from home for our vacation. We were splitting our time between family in Berkeley and a couple trips up to Napa and this is about exactly half way between the two. The home is very well restored, with all the cooking utensils and supplied needed. Games and books are available of the kids as well, which was quite a nice surprise. Vallejo is not a great tourist area, but this is only about 20-30 minutes form wine country, and the ferry to San Francisco is within walking distance of the property. Perfect for families.
