Grand Rue is located within the ramparts in the heart of Olonzac, capital of the Minervois, France's famous southern wine region.
Maison en Pierre was probably built in the 10th century but updated structurally and renovated. Our immaculate self catering vacation home is on three-stories and right in the center of town. The area is very private and quiet. Just step outside your door and on a Tuesday, you are in the middle of the weekly market.
Olonzac, just a 30-40 minute drive from Carcassonne, is the capital of the Minervois with 5 restaurants (2 within 20 yards), cafes, bars, patisseries, boulangeries, delicatessens, tabac, post office and professional services such as the doctor office, dentist, banks and much more. A market is held every Tuesday morning right outside the house. There is also a park with children's playing equipment and 3 tennis courts. A magnificent lake, Lac de Jouarres, is only a few minutes away. Here you can fish, sunbathe, swim, windsurf, picnic or sail. There is also a great restaurant and café overlooking the water.
Olonzac is surrounded by hundreds of vineyards with tasting facilities, in fact, 3 are within walking distance. The hills and mountains of the Black Mountains, leading to the Parque Languedoc, are a short distance to the north and for beach lovers, the seashore of Narbonne-Plage and Gruissan are only 35 kilometres away.
Spain and the Pyrenees are approximately an hour away. Fetes, festivals and markets occur all year round throughout many of the surrounding villages. In winter, skiing is available within a 1 hour drive in France or 2 hour drive in Andorra.

Our passion for travel and France led us to look for a place to call 'home' in the country we love. We longed for a well serviced authentic 'french village' in a region that would give us warmth and much sunshine.
Why the Owner Chose Olonzac
Our search stopped when we found Maison-en-pierre in Olonzac, we renovated the whole house, a place we love and now spend some time every summer, hugely enjoying both the house, the village and the region. Our previous guests have shared our views.

Olonzac is charming - small enough to have a village feel, but big enough to support all you want - restuarants, shops, cafes etc. The house is lovely, exactly as described on the website. As keen cooks we have learned to bring a crate of kitchen equipment with us, but this is the first time ever that the crate has remained untouched.

We found this holiday home to be everything we needed for a relaxing break from the rat race in the UK. Olonzac is a great village with good facilities, we day tripped to Carcasonne easily and also to the south coast. It was a pleasure to come back here each evening and the courtyard is a delight. We can fully recommend to anyone wanting a clean, lovingly restored, authentic French self catering holiday.
