Casa Angeles is located in the Lincoln National Forest just two miles off a main road in Ruidoso. Perched at the foot of a mountain on one and one-half acres, the quiet serenity of the surroundings make it a perfect getaway for couples or individuals looking for a spiritual retreat in nature.
The cabin has one bedroom upstairs in the loft that accesses a private deck where deer, birds and other wildlife will pass by. The second bedroom is downstairs, making privacy for two couples. The cabin has central heat, ceiling fans and wood stove. Casa Angeles was built in 2004 and is the owners' second home. They have furnished it in a way that makes you feel like it's your home too. The kitchen is fully stocked with staples and cookware making it easy to go to the store for the main items and prepare delicious meals in the comfort of your retreat. There's a washer/dryer supplied with eco-friendly products for your convenience. Lawn chairs, bird feeders, hummingbird feeders and an air mattress for star gazing from the deck are all available.
Hiking, walking and being in nature is the big attraction at Casa A. The silence of the secluded area with the sound of Cedar Creek as it falls over beautiful rocks make it a perfect place to contemplate life and journal your heart out. New Mexico enacts measures to protect their night sky, therefore, the star gazing is wonderful on clear nights. When you tire of the silence, you can watch movies or listen to music or go into town and shop, visit the museums or reserve a night at the Spencer Theatre.
Close by in Ruidoso Downs is one of the biggest purses in horse racing during the summer months and the Mescalero Apache Indians host gambling in their casinos at the Downs and at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. Delicious food is served up all over town. There's a restaurant for every kind of taste and budget. In the middle of town is a Links golf course and another 18 hole course at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. Snow skiing at Ski Apache is only minutes away with down hill and snowboarding. All the ski rentals are available in town.

We are Russell and Beckie Forsyth from Austin, Texas. We have been visiting New Mexico...The Land of Enchantment for 30 years thanks to friends that moved there. Summer 2001 was just too hot in Santa Fe so we checked the weather for the coolest spot in the state. It was Ruidoso. We drove in and fell in love with the community, the weather and the landscape. Over the next 5 years we kept visiting and visualizing our own home there. In 2006 we were blessed with selling a property in Austin that made it possible. Just when the money was there Casa Angeles was waiting for us...just as we had visualized with privacy, close to town, easy access and running water (year round so far). We're so blessed!

This was an excellent condo! We loved the cozy atmosphere and all of the amenities. We really enjoyed all of the wildlife. Deers greeted us upon our arrival and were visual throughout our entire stay. This condo really has everything you need. We were 2 couples and each had their own private space and sharing a bathroom wasn't bad at all. I would recommend buying a large snow shovel. We arrived to about a foot and a half of snow and had some trouble on the driveway, but that wasn't really all that bad. Skiing at Ski Apache was wonderful. 100% of the runs were running. We had all levels of skiiers and everyone had a great time. Thank you, Beckie, for having such a cozy, warm, comfortable cabin. It was really a home away from home :) We look forward to returning again!
Owner response:Leti, I'm so happy that you all enjoyed your New Years stay. I'm sorry that we didn't have the shovel out, it was under the house. I will take care of that detail, thanks for letting me know. We look forward to having you return to Casa Angeles and the Land of Enchantment. Beckie

The cabin is in a beautiful location and well maintained. One of the problems for us was the lock box system for getting the key. The lock box would not open for quite a while which caused a major problem. Not sure if it was the cold temperatures or if it is just old and needs to be replaced. And the cabin is much smaller than we thought. It also has no wifi or cable service which is not good when you have kids staying with you.
Owner response:Kevin and family, I'm very sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with your stay at our home. The lock box was most likely frozen as you arrived in frigid temps. We've had our maintenance man inspect the box in order to repair/replace as needed. I thought we handled it with you promptly over the phone, again I'm sorry it caused you a problem upon entering. I've had several folks inquire about cable but I checked and it's just not available that deep in the forest. We provide hundreds of movies, many of which are for children and families for entertainment. We actually love that we can escape into nature and still be 10 minutes from wifi and entertainment in town. Nature is truly the entertainment at the Casa. Thank you for your feedback and again I'm sorry for your dissatisfaction. Best, Beckie

Beckie - I wanted to let you know that we enjoyed our stay at your cabin in Ruidoso. Everything was perfect for a great few days to enjoy God's wonders. We did some hiking, some driving to see the mountain views, some reading, and just a lot of breathing in the cool mountain air. Six or seven deer stood all around and watched us as we left this morning! We came home refreshed! Thank you for allowing us to spend time in your cabin. Donna

This was our second visit to Casa Angeles and again we loved it! Even though Ruidoso is dry & windy right now, the weather is still cooler than Texas. The Lincoln Nat'l Forest is closed but the horse races are going strong, along with fishing at Grindstone, shopping, gun shows and art galleries. The comfort, peace, and beauty that unfolds as you stay here is incredible. Deer can be seen everywhere as well as woodpeckers and hummingbirds. The stars are also unbelievable at night from the deck. This is the best kept secret in town. Awesome!!!!! Thanks again Beckie and Russell for sharing your Casa with so many to enjoy!!!
Owner response:Thank you for your feedback. It's nice to hear how things are in the forest. We're honored that you chose to spend your vacation time with us again. We look forward to your next visit!

My husband, two daughters (9 and 2), and I stayed at the cabin last weekend to celebrate our 17th wedding anniversary. When we arrived, we could not have been more pleased. While the pictures look good, they don't do the place justice. In searching for a cabin, it was important to me that the floors look good enough to walk on with my bare feet. The floors looked pretty good online, but I took my flipflops anyway. I never wore them. The house, the floors, the bathroom--everything was impecably clean. The kitchen is completely stocked with pots and pans, coffee maker, mixer (we even made a cake). There are spices and plenty of other condiments in the pantry in case you forget something. Everything is so well organized, from the extra lighbulbs to the toothpicks--everything had its place. The couches are clean. The linens smell great. There's a washer and dryer and a nice wicker hamper. We kept so organized--just like it was our own home. Then we washed all our dirty clothes before returning home with the environmentally laundry detergent and fabric softner sheets they provide!. So nice!! Being able to wash our dirty clothes before retuning home made unpacking so pleasant! Deer, deer!! Everywhere deer! All day! Every day! They drink water at the creek that runs all along the property. The cabin sits in the middle of the Lincoln National Forest surrounded by trees and nearby walking trails. It was really close to town, close to the horseback riding location we visited (Cowboy Stables), and close to the winterpark at the bottom of ski apache. The size is perfect for a couple or a couple with two children. If you don't mind sleeping on the sofa sleeper, there is room for two more, but I think that would be pushing it with only one full bath. We had lunch in the terrace off the upstairs bathroom one afternoon. All the furnishings and cabinets, etc., are great quality--nothing cheap and commercial looking. It feels like a home, and one feels at home in it. Fluffier pillows would be nice (just a suggestion). The owners have been kind enough to leave closet and drawer space for one to store his or her belongings. This was a huge plus for me, as I really dislike living out of my suticase when traveling. I like to feel at home, and I did. They have tons of movies, tons of CDs. We ate or prepared every single one of our meals at the cabin. We didn't eat out once. The kids loved it! Loved the deer, the creek, their upstairs bedroom (super cute!). Owner Beckie was sweet!
Owner response:Noemi, Thank you very much for your review of our Casa. We are thrilled that your stay with us was such a success. We love it when folks really "get" what the Casa is all about. We look forward to hosting you again sometime. Many thanks, Beckie PS I'm headed to the pillow store to get new fluffy pillows and we'll deliver them on our next visit. Thanks for the suggestion.

Our family truly loved this place. We had deer on the property everyday. Ruidoso is a beautiful town. There is plenty to do and lots of sites to see. If you enjoy nature, then Casa Angeles is right for you. We dined at Michelenas, Slotkys, and Casa Blancas. All were very good. I would definitely return.
Owner response:Alan, We're so happy that you had a good time with family in Ruidoso. It's such a wonderful community. Thanks for your comments and your suggestions on the antenna. We're going to check into that when we're there in February. Come back to see us soon. Best, Beckie

My husband and I were fortunate to be able to spend 4 nights in this lovely cabin. It was well appointed and furnished with everything we needed for a restful and enjoyable get-away. The location was perfect - very close to town, but far enough away to feel secluded. It was very quiet and very dark at night - great way to relax. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare some of our meals in. I had brought a lot of groceries and then we went shopping at a local supermarket. There were items in the cabinet and fridge that were really nice to have access to - for example, spices and other condiments that we only needed a little of. We had never stayed anyplace that provided use of these items. We loved having access to a washer and dryer; and the fireplace and video library were nice amenities. We also loved being able to hear the creek and to watch the wildlife - deer and a variety of birds. I would say: the only downside for us was not having access to cable to watch the news. I was okay with that, but this was a real disappointment for my husband. Reading is my activity of preferences; tv is his. But I know that having no cable would probably be considered a real plus by most visitors.
Owner response:Thank you, Jill. It makes us happy to know that our guests enjoyed their experience. We appreciate your candor about the cable service. We've often thought about how convenient it would be to have access. I will be checking on what service is available. I'll let you know when we get connected in case you'd like to return. Thanks again for choosing Casa Angeles. Best, Beckie & Russell

Dear Becky and Russell, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, because of your "Casa Angeles" (a peaceful, warm, comfy, homey full of love space to stay) we were able to delight in the sights of the Ruidoso area. This was just one of our days - each day was special, but this one happened to involve photos that we could share. We found so many friendly helpful people. We found out about the Argentina Trail (photos below) from a local man that was dropping off maps at the Forest Service station. Come to find out he is a singer/songwriter and will be performing in Gruene, Tx in October. We spent time at the health food store (Wild Herb Market). I had a chair massage (great masseuse her husband and her have a studio in town), we ate amazing soups and sandwiches there several days, and the people that worked there were so very friendly and helped us by sending us to the right locations for several things we wanted to look at. Each morning and evening we had coffee on the back deck with your bear cub and watched the birds and deer. With a new moon and no clouds, the stars were spectacular. We borrowed the telescope to view Jupiter and its moons. There is one regret ~ we had to leave ~ our stay could have easily been longer!

Anyone wishing to stay at a very comfortable, peaceful, relaxing mountain home should look no where else. This casa was so charming with everything you need to make some great vacation memories. We saw deer everywhere (even a fawn), listened to the running creek outside the door, and curled up with some good books. This was our 28th wedding anniversary and I could not have asked for a better spot to celebrate. All I can add is that it was awesome and we will be back as much as possible. Thanks for sharing your wonderful casa with so many. It was truly a gift!
Owner response:Charlie, Thank you so much for your review. We are so happy that you had a wonderful wedding anniversary. We love having the romance energy in the place. Please come back to see us soon. Blessings, Beckie
