Casa Angeles is located in the Lincoln National Forest just two miles off a main road in Ruidoso. Perched at the foot of a mountain on one and one-half acres, the quiet serenity of the surroundings make it a perfect getaway for couples or individuals looking for a spiritual retreat in nature.

The cabin has one bedroom upstairs in the loft that accesses a private deck where deer, birds and other wildlife will pass by. The second bedroom is downstairs, making privacy for two couples. The cabin has central heat, ceiling fans and wood stove. Casa Angeles was built in 2004 and is the owners' second home. They have furnished it in a way that makes you feel like it's your home too. The kitchen is fully stocked with staples and cookware making it easy to go to the store for the main items and prepare delicious meals in the comfort of your retreat. There's a washer/dryer supplied with eco-friendly products for your convenience. Lawn chairs, bird feeders, hummingbird feeders and an air mattress for star gazing from the deck are all available.

Hiking, walking and being in nature is the big attraction at Casa A. The silence of the secluded area with the sound of Cedar Creek as it falls over beautiful rocks make it a perfect place to contemplate life and journal your heart out. New Mexico enacts measures to protect their night sky, therefore, the star gazing is wonderful on clear nights. When you tire of the silence, you can watch movies or listen to music or go into town and shop, visit the museums or reserve a night at the Spencer Theatre.

Close by in Ruidoso Downs is one of the biggest purses in horse racing during the summer months and the Mescalero Apache Indians host gambling in their casinos at the Downs and at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. Delicious food is served up all over town. There's a restaurant for every kind of taste and budget. In the middle of town is a Links golf course and another 18 hole course at the Inn of the Mountain Gods. Snow skiing at Ski Apache is only minutes away with down hill and snowboarding. All the ski rentals are available in town.

Owner's Map of Ruidoso

We are Russell and Beckie Forsyth from Austin, Texas. We have been visiting New Mexico...The Land of Enchantment for 30 years thanks to friends that moved there. Summer 2001 was just too hot in Santa Fe so we checked the weather for the coolest spot in the state. It was Ruidoso. We drove in and fell in love with the community, the weather and the landscape. Over the next 5 years we kept visiting and visualizing our own home there. In 2006 we were blessed with selling a property in Austin that made it possible. Just when the money was there Casa Angeles was waiting for us...just as we had visualized with privacy, close to town, easy access and running water (year round so far).

    • Where do I begin? My wife and I chose the Casa as the special place to spend our honeymoon. It really could not have been any better. Not only was the cabin "top notch" the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. We felt so at home while at the Casa we really did not want to leave. Everything was so peaceful! There was so much wildlife around from all different types of birds to deer, chipmunks and even a large group of wild turkey. We really can't wait to go back! Thanks so much for letting us spend such a wonderful time in your wonderful place. We believe that anyone who has a chance to go to the Casa will love it!! Thanks again, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Reed

The kitchen was very clean when we arrived and it was a delight to be able to cook my meals each day! You will love this place!

    • Beckie and Russell, Thank you so much for sharing the joy of your vacation place! This was a perfect getaway. My husband and I and my mom and dad had so many laughs in this place. It was great to let loose, relax. We had coffee on the deck and watched the deer. My husband brought his binoculars (for the horse races) and used them much more for trying to identify birds. It was out of character for him and just hillarious!! My parents are so much fun and we had a great bonding time with them...watching Lonesome Dove for the zillionth time. Playing card games you only play when the kids aren't around, and generally just enjoying the mountains. We had a blast! Thanks again. Inga, Mike, Travis and Wanda.

    • My family rang in the new year of 2009 at Casa Angeles. What a beautiful, peace-filled place to be! We loved the quiet, wooded setting. The creek and surrounding forest provided my 2 city boys with an abundance of fun in nature. We prepared dinner every night in the well stocked kitchen, enjoying the warmth of the wood burning stove in the living area. It was a lovely 3 nights in an idyllic setting.

    • We had the most wonderful stay at this cabin! It was a nice change from commercially operated cabins we have stayed at in the past. The cabin fit two couples and our small kids nicely. Everything was new and clean. We plan to come back again next year!

    • My fiance and I arrived around 4 p.m. on Friday (July 13) and by 5 p.m. we had already spotted a dozen deer off the deck, some of them walking within 15 feet of us. They were as interested in us as we were in them. I'd never been that close to deer for that long of a period of time. It was constant for about an hour. Throughout the first several hours, it rained on and off and was quite a show. But we never left the deck, afraid we'd miss another deer. The cabin is new and beautiful and has one of the best settings on Cedar Creek Road. The deck backs right up to the mountain, which makes for great wildlife watching we found out rather quickly. The front is spacious and well off the road. The creek runs near the road, about 30 feet from the cabin, and makes quite a noise with a good flow through the rocks and under the road. It is actually loud enough to hear while all the way on the back deck. Make sure to make the effort to pump up the air mattress in the loft closet for evenings. Dusk is amazing and then the star show starts. Too many to count. Thousands. We were in awe. I'm a television reporter for ABC in El Paso and my weeks can be rather stressful with the deadlines. I found it the perfect place to unwind on a three-day weekend. If stars aren't your thing, then put the provided hummingbird feeders out during the cool afternoon (never got hotter than 75 degrees the whole time), lay down under the feeders and watch the hummingbirds swarm overhead. Pretty cool. Place is perfect for two couples with a bedroom with plenty of privacy downstairs, although the best view and the morning deer parade is best viewed from the loft bedroom off the deck. We used the downstairs bedroom as our dressing room since the bathroom is next to it downstairs and the loft can be a little cramped. Although there is no cable, there is a DVD player and some good movies and documentaries provided. There are a couple of movie rental places in town. Or you might want to bring a favorite or two for the evenings. Going out to eat? If you like Chinese food, try the Great Wall of China on Sudderth.

    • A fabulous retreat house in nature. It has most anything you need for a home away from home. It's close to the city for great food and shopping, and yet feels very private and isolated. Lots of great hiking in the forest, and the vistas are beautiful. The house itelf is very well maintained, and very comfortable with attention to detail. I had a wonderful visit there and can't wait to return. It's a little slice of paradise.

    • What a gift to be in this magical place. Sitting on the deck taking in the stunning beauty - having deer come up close enough to see details in their ears! And the sound of the creek running so gently through the grounds - the beauty of the natural world here is true medicine. And the cabin is cozy with many special touches - you can tell that the owners take great care of this special place And on a practical basis, it has everything you could possibly need. Thank you - we can't wait to come back!
