Narnia at the City Above the Clouds

Narnia is a great place to experience a laid-back mountain getaway: in the North Cabin Common Room, old-style walls of floor-to-ceiling, knotty-pine paneling complement its original, restored hardwood floors. The fireplace, made of unique, Ute Pass granite makes your getaway especially cozy. The Bungalow Common Room offers another place to relax with the TV or movie. Both kitchens are fully furnished and equipped. A deck, nestled among ponderosa pines, with propane grills and picnic tables, completes what's needed for great outdoor barbecuing. The cabin and bungalow offer sufficient privacy for separate families.
Although pleasantly situated in a forested area, Narnia has convenient access to Woodland Park town and great Pike's Peak area activities:
Woodland Park , (aka 'The City Above the Clouds'), offers many amenities including good restaurants, a quaint, old-fashioned main street complete with art galleries, antique shops and cowboy clothing stores. It also boasts a rodeo season, art and craft fairs, music festivals, a movie theater, the Dinosaur Museum, and a modern array of super-markets.
There is plenty to do and see: High-altitude golfing, gold-medal fishing in the South Platte and at Eleven Mile Canyon, big game hunting and great wildlife viewing. World class 4-wheeling, mountain biking and hiking are all within minutes.
Colorado Springs and 'Old Colorado City' are only a 20-minute drive, and historical Manitou Springs is about 15 minutes away. Even closer is the entrance to the Pikes Peak Highway, Cave of the Winds, and the Cliff Dwellings.
It's 35 minutes scenic drive to Cripple Creek for touring the historic Molly Kathleen Gold Mine, the incredible (and active) Victor Mine, low-stakes gambling and experiencing the grand views of three Colorado mountain ranges.
Don't miss a visit to the fabulous Garden of the Gods, The Navigator's Glen Eyrie, a tour of the USAF Academy, the US Olympic Center, Focus on the Family or hike around Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument and see the awesome views from the Crags Trail. Denver is only an hour and a half away as are the Breckenridge and Monarch ski areas.
Or you can hang out at Narnia, breathe the cool mountain air and ... relax!

My family had a glorious week long stay at Narnia. Homey and functional, this cabin is complete and sooo Colorado! Cooking was a delight in the well-equipped kitchen with all the conveniences. We enjoyed the mama deer who watched over her two little charges as they slept just a few feet from where we soaked up the morning sun on the lovely deck. The horseshoes were a hit with everyone and we had a nice chat with George when he came by to collect the garbage. A memorable experience for all and one we look forward to repeating! Thank you for a memorable holiday!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

I had the good fortune to stay in the enchanting Narnia cabin for 8 months! It was a glorious experience and one of the happiest times of my life. Narnia has a great vibe and is furnished and equipped to the highest standards. It has everything you need for comfort, is super-clean and well- maintained. The lovely owners attended to my every need. I stayed from October through May and enjoyed changing seasons including a spectacularly beautiful winter and had the pleasure of observing wildlife every day - right outside the door!. I fell in love with the magnificent scenery of the area and the warm and friendly people of Woodland Park, where you can get everything you need within minutes from the cabin. I would recommend Narnia to everyone! It is a magical place!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

we stayed here for a couple of weeks toward the end of our time in colorado and it was a very cute and cozy feeling cabin. we thoroughly enjoyed the rustic, yet charming atmosphere and our hosts were very warming and caring. this really is one of the best places we've ever stayed at.... even though it was smaller it seemed very roomy and inviting.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

My brothers and I stayed at the Narnia Cabin in order to attend a wedding of some good friends down in Manitou Springs. Although we grew up in Colorado Springs, we had never really had a reason to stay in Woodland Park, but now that we have we’ve set our minds to return. The setting was beautiful, the cabin was clean and exactly as advertised, the deer visited us in the mornings and evenings, and the stores of Manitou are just a stone’s throw away... very convenient. Further, all the communications from the owners (George, Lynn, Gary, and Nancy) both prior to and following our stay were nothing but professional, clear, polite, and attentive. Terrific job – the whole experience has reminded us why we love Colorado. Many thanks!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

I have stayed at three of the Happy Trails properties (Narnia Cabin, Narnia Bungalow and the Olde Poste) over the past two years and all of these locations are superb! The Narnia Cabin and Narnia Bungalow are beautifully appointed cabins with everything you could ever want in a vacation rental. The folks at Happy Trails have thoughtfully equipped these cabins with Satellite TV, a full kitchen stocked with cookware, plates, glasses and silverware, microwave, full sized refrigerator, coffee maker and many appliances. There is even a washer and dryer to ensure you spend your vacation enjoying the area and not sitting at the laundromat. There is everything you need right down to the smallest detail. After staying at Happy Trails I would would never stay at a hotel again! Coming home to a private cabin in the trees was 100% better than fighting for parking at the Best Western. The two cabins sit in amongst mature pines and breeze through the pines gives off a wonderful sound. The deck is great for a BBQ or just to unwind after a full day of sightseeing. One morning I got up and found 3 baby deer in the driveway! There is a Red Fox that makes his rounds in the neighborhood and it is a beautiful place to stay. The neighborhood is wonderfully safe and intensely peaceful. Surprisingly its only a few blocks off the main street of Woodland Park! The Olde Poste is a charming victorian era home that used to be the old post office in Cascade. The house is nicely appointed but still maintains it's victorian charm. The spacious master bedroom is just like being at home and the location is fabulous for quick access to all of the sightseeing attractions in the Springs. Again every amenity has been provided including Internet access and Satellite TV, etc. Across the street from the Olde Poste is the Wines of Colorado. A fabulous place to eat and be sure to get a table that sits on Fountain creek. If you are traveling to the Colorado Springs / Pikes Peak area the Happy Trails facilities are a perfect place to stay. Pikes Peak, Seven Falls, Wind Cave and Manitou cliff dwelling are only minutes away. The owners of Happy Trails are the most delightful and decent people you would ever want to meet and I cant say enough nice things about them. You will too!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, people with disabilities.

This is a charming, sweet, quiet and well equipped cabin with only more good things to come. The owners are helpful and available. We will be back to enjoy the serenity and sweetness! It was so pleasing. We had 3 children and 3 adults, and it was plenty of room. Convenient location and a beautiful location, too.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: George graduated from USAFA in 1969 and was stationed in Colorado as a young Intelligence officer. He and Lynn met and married in Hawaii after George’s return from Southeast Asia; a son and daughter soon rounded out their family aloha. In 1978, a visit with friends in Colorado convinced them that this was eventually to be their permanent home. 14 years later, after living overseas, experiencing many cultures, and watching the Soviet empire fall, they finally made it to Colorado! They originally bought their Woodland Park and Cascade houses in 2002 as long-term rentals, but found that converting them to comfortable refuges for vacationers offered them better opportunities to meet and interact with great families from all over the world. George is now retired; he and Lynn have raised and shown some wonderful Bernese Mountain Dogs, in addition to having the honor and pleasure of hosting many visitors to our corner of paradise.
Why the Owner Chose Woodland Park:
We love Colorado and especially the Pikes Peak region. We saw that the Narnia cabins, (called 'Narnia' because of the lamppost!), could be a great way to share our hospitality as well as provide a modest income in our retirement.
