We LOVED this house! It was beautiful with a great floor plan. We had 2 families with 5 children and the grandparents and there was plenty of room for everyone. The ground level entry made unloading and reloading so easy. It was nice to be able to close the door to the downstairs for those going to bed earlier. The private dock was wonderful and we kayaked on the lake every day. We also used the rowboat to enjoy the peaceful lake. The men fished daily and did very well! We used the resort passes for the indoor pool 5 out of 6 days. Some of us went to Easter Sunrise service at Chimney Rock and it was amazing! We enjoyed the shops at Chimney Rock and sight seeing around Lake Lure. This is the perfect house to rent because it is close to the resort and not far from areas of interest for sight seeing. I personally enjoyed not having internet service because that allowed me to really leave it all behind for a week of rest and relaxation. I had limited cell service but received texts and emails on my phone just fine. Those with me had great cell service with their provider so there are some close towers, just not my carrier. Thank you so much for sharing your fabulous home! We will definitely be back!!!

We rented the Cabin for a 4-family get-away and with small exception couldn't have been more pleased. Our ages ranged from 69 down to 2 and everybody had a great time. The description and pictures just don't do the place justice. The quiet lake was perfect for morning and evening fishing, swimming, rowing and just plain relaxing. Most days we had the lake to ourselves. The kitchen was well equipt, the washer/dryer greatly appreciated, and the re-cycling refreshing. Having passes to the resort was the clincher...there was always something for everybody to do reguardless of the age-grouping. The multi-level cabin made it possible to isolate noisy children to the carpeted rec-room, with their own TV. The owners were responsive and easy to work with; we received our security deposit back less than a week after leaving. The only down side was the lack of consistent cell phone reception for most of our party and the lack of on-site computer access. Although wireless reception was available at the resort, it wasn't always convenient and the compuer equipment provided at the resort was completely unacceptable. The staff at the resort, however, was another matter! They couldn't have been more professional, cooperative, or considerate! The same for the activity list at the resort. The landscape in the area was breath-taking. If you get the chance, travel the other roads in Shumont Estates.....the vistas are unbelievable and we had to constantly be on the look out because of the Deer and Wild Turkeys! The deck faces east so provided a welcome late afternoon place to escape the sun and enjoy the view. Be careful on the deck, however, as the decking is beginning to curl and you can easily stub a toe. We used the outside grill, but it is on its last legs. We were pleasantly surprised by the lack of bothersome insects....even in July!
Owner response:Winter/Spring 2012 Update: Thank you to the Coopers for their feedback! We have replaced the propane grill with a Charbroil InferRed grill and are very pleased with its performance. The loose decking has been repaired, and we will take a look at it again this spring to protect everyone's toes! We have been very pleased with the resort amenities ourselves and are very happy to hear what a great experience our guests had when they interacted with the staff. Sadly, we can't do much about the cellular reception at the house - it is the one downside to those beautiful mountains (they block cellular signals)! Some carriers' signal strength (Verizon, AT&T) are better than others (Sprint). It will vary from place to place as you drive around the local area. Thanks again for the feedback, we welcome all suggestions and concerns so that we can make future rentals more enjoyable. Sincerely, The Fenners

The photos do not do this place justice. It is a beautiful. The house is set in a quiet area on a very large lot in Shumont Estates. There is plenty of privacy as there is a large buffer of trees between the neighboring homes, so you barely even know they are there. The floorplan is open and the large windows and skylights make it bright and airy. The house is well furnished, the beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. The flat back entry area makes it easy to unload and load your vehicle. The large deck is great to enjoy your morning coffee and listen to the birds. The house is lakefront to Shumont Lake. The lake is serene and is clear and clean and we had a good time using the rowboat and fishing. I caught several respectable size bass and the kids had fun catching bream on cane poles. With the exception of one day we had the entire lake to ourselves! The passes to Rumbling Bald Resort is a definite plus. We used the indoor and outdoor pools, lazy river and the kids had a great time at the beach on Lake Lure. The house is a 20 minute drive to Chimney Rock State Park. The climb is fun and great exercise. On the day we were there the visibility from the top was 50 miles! Its about a 45 minute drive to Hendersonville and an hour to Asheville. The owners were very timely in answering our emails and were very pleasant to talk with and answer our questions. We would highly recommend this property and in fact we are already planning a return visit in the fall for a long weekend.

My friends and I had an absolutely amazing time at the house. The pictures do not do it justice. The house is so clean, beautiful and spacious, we never got in each others way. Everything about the house is wonderful. The lake was also one of our favorite things. Definitely set aside a day or 2 of your vacation to just hang by the lake. We cannot wait to plan a trip back to this house in the future. Thanks again!

My family spent a wonderful week here in July 2009. The house is beautiful, and a perfect setting for kids. Our boys loved swimming in the lake, rowing the boat, fishing, playing foosball, and the resort's mini golf. Also did the nearby trail riding and gem mining. We had a fantastic time! What a great house and location! We hope to come back sometime.

We stayed at Lake Lure Log House in May 2009 along with our three married children and two grandsons. The house is wonderful, and in such a quiet, peaceful setting. We loved the private dock on Shumont Lake. Having amenity passes to Rumbling Bald Resort just two miles away gave us lots to do when we wanted more action - golf, tennis, mini golf, horseshoes, beach at lake, great fitness center, DVD rentals, etc. All our family agreed this was one of our best vacations ever!

This home is even more beautiful than the pictures! We were here with extended family for a wedding and we couldn't have found a more perfect place to stay. The rooms were large and comfortable and the setting is just gorgeous. The kids (and adults!)especially enjoyed the foosball, boat, and dock. Everyone that came by (and we had lots of visitors) commented on what a special place we had found. Thank you for a wonderful weekend! We hope to return in the future! Warmest regards, Aaron & Olga Spivey

We rented the cabin for a Christmas get together with family and had a wonderful time. Even with the cooler temperatures the deck was great for a morning cup of coffee listening to the sounds of nature. The place was large enough for family members to stay over if needed and we could easily be proud to have our family visit this gorgeous cabin. Many thanks to the owners. The cabin was warm and welcoming and it was easy to feel at home in the beautiful surroundings. All types of activities in the area no matter what season. We went horse back riding in the mountains and it was great. Thanks for a great Christmas break.

Great Home on a small quiet lake. Drink coffee from the deck in the morning as the sun rises over the lake. You can watch the kids fish on the dock from the deck. The back yard is flat enough that the kids can play in the yard. Beautiful home in a gorgeous area of North Carolina, it is close enough to any activity you could want to do on a vacation. We will be back!

We were fortunate to rent this home in August 2006. The home is spacious and immaculate. The surrounding area is peaceful and private, but at the same time a short distance to all the amenities the area has to offer. We were very pleased and had a great time!

Janet and I were fortunate to be some of the first renters, and we had a fantastic stay. Your family will not want to leave the property. Great accommodations, and the wnderful small lake, make for a piece of heaven. This home is pristine, and the owners are terrific to work with. Our family stays at VRBO homes on all of our vacations, and I can assure you this can not be bet. Have a great stay.
