Accommodations: House, 3 Bedrooms + Loft, 3 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: Tahoe Donner, stunning log house in a private setting on two acres backing up to the Tahoe Donner Ski Area. Ski in, Ski out - come home for lunch!
Nestled in the trees on the top of Ski Slope, our stunning log home sits on almost two acres, giving it a parklike setting with privacy and elegance. Designed to evoke the feel of your own private lodge, exquisite attention was given to craftsmanship, finishes and decor. Each log was lovingly hand picked in Montana. A large bank of windows brings the outdoors in no matter the season. The spacious great room with its stone fireplace is the perfect spot to track winter snowdrifts or watch deer and birds.
Two professional bakers designed the kitchen. With prep and kitchen sinks, large Viking range and indoor grill, it is easy to prepare an intimate dinner for two or a family Thanksgiving feast. The spacious open floor plan easily meets the needs of a busy family.
Designed for ease of living, there are three bedrooms: one bedroom (queen-size bed) and bathroom on the main floor for those who prefer not to use stairs. Upstairs are the master bedroom (queen-size bed), and the 3rd bedroom (full-size bed). The loft, with two twin-size daybeds, provides perfect away space for reading or watching a movie. A mudroom minimizes after ski hassles, and forced air heating warms the house quickly - there is a lovely woodburning fireplace to further enhance the lodge-feeling.
In summer you'll find golf courses, tennis courts, a full equestrian center, swimming pools, archery, a recreation center with a fully equipped work-out facility, hot tubs and sauna, recreation events, day camps, spectacular biking and hiking (ask me about great hikes organized by the Tahoe Donner Hiking Club!),and of course access to the Donner Lake Private Beach and Marina with all its water activities for endless terrific family fun, plus year around heated outdoor pools, spas and sauna, great rock climbing and much more.
Check Tahoe Donner's website for more information.
Truckee has premium shopping and outlet stores.
Reno's international airport is only 30 minutes away. If you have a private plane you can fly into Truckee Airport.
In winter ski in/ski out from the back of our property to the Tahoe Donner Ski Resort! And a mere 20-30 minutes away are the world class downhill and cross country ski resorts of Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Sugar Bowl and Royal Gorge to name just a few. Minutes away are the Tahoe Donner Ski Resort, Cross Country area, downhill sledding and ice skating rink. And you will appreciate the level driveway to get to the house!
No shortage of things to do to be sure. But if what you want to do is to do nothing at all, then we invite you to our home. Its tranquil beauty is guaranteed to hold you captive making it difficult to ever think of leaving!
On a final note, this home was a labor of love. We trust that those who rent it will keep this in mind and will treat it well. It sleeps six to eight people comfortably. It is not a home for large parties or groups. Kids/teenagers must be accompanied by adults.

Gorgeous Log House, Ski in/Ski Out to Tahoe Donner's Ski Area!
Why the Owner Chose Tahoe Donner
Summers are fabulous! There are endless water sports, a private beach and marina at Donner lake, biking and hiking, tennis, golf, horseback riding, archery - we love it all!
And we love the winter! We go skiing at Squaw, Northstar, Alpine, Sugar Bowl, and Tahoe Donner (just to name a few resorts). And then there is Royal Gorge and Tahoe Donner itself for great cross country skiing or snow shoeing. Plus ice skating in Truckee, Northstar and Squaw Valley, and we go snowshoeing right by our house!
The Unique Benefits at this House
The house is very private. It sits on almost two acres and backs up to the Open Space that is the Tahoe Donne Ski Resort so we can ski in and ski out. The Tahoe Donner recreation facilities are fabulous with swimming pools, a gym, restaurants, a private beach at Donner Lake, a wonderful golf course, horseback riding, nice restaurants in old town Truckee, or we drive over the border to Nevada to check out the Casinos. So much to do, but also so wonderful to stay home and cook up fabulous meals in the kitchen designed by two professional bakers!

This house was love at first sight for us. We love the starry nights, the snow topped trees, the huge logs that were used to make the house - it just fits like a glove any time of the year!

Perfect Winter Getaway!

We LOVED this place! Just on the edge of wonderful wooded land with some hills right out the door for sledding and beautiful views from big wide windows. The house is so upscale with all the amenities: Beautiful log construction, every kitchen item necessary, games, cooking staples, laundering, even sleds etc. We were there during a big winter storm but the snow plows were always on top of the roads and driveway so access was never a problem (the garage is a must in the snow!). We were close to Northstar skiing and want to come back to try the cross country skiing and Donner Ski resort just down the road. Can't say enough good things about this place!

Recently stayed at this amazing house. At first I didn't want to send in a review because I was afraid this place would never be available when I want to rent again. I've rented several other homes in the Tahoe area. This was by far the best. It was so private, clean, well kept and fully functioning every step of the way. The level of detail in each room with make you wish you lived there. Very spacious kitchen with everything you would need to have a great family gathering. The only slight negative or thing to consider which has nothing to do with the physical house was the elevation of the lot. Located high up above Tahoe Donner ski resort. I pulled out my iPhone altimeter app which read roughly 7,300 ft. above sea level in the upstairs bedroom. At this level we found ourselves short of breath, groggy and the kids didn't have much of an appetite. We expected this coming from The Bay Area where we live at 139 ft. Something to consider if you or anyone in your party are uncomfortable with high altitudes. Overall a fantastic home that is worth it.
Owner response:Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Brian. You are correct that the property is at 7,000 ft elevation. The house sits at the same level as the top of the Tahoe Donner Ski resort lift - you can ski to the house for lunch! Happy Holidays!

This was my first VRBO experience and I was a little cautious going into it....This house was more than I imagined. We loved it. The pictures definitely did not do it justice. It was perfect for our family Thanksgiving get together. The kitchen was a delight to work in. So many windows and beautiful views. Rooms/beds were very comfortable and the great room was perfect for reading, and playing games. Loved how it is furnished mixing rustic & antique. The house was very clean and well stocked with all that we needed. We had great snow right outside our door to make snowmen and go sledding. The ski lifts were not operating during our stay but we liked the idea of being able to ski to the lifts from the house. Next time! The owner was very helpful in answering my questions. I would most definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives...already have!

My family loves coming to this home in all seasons! It's beautiful, romantic, comfortable & child friendly. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is a dream to cook in and lounging by the fire with games or a book is the perfect way to end each evening. There is good separation of the bedrooms which makes it very comfortable if you choose to come with another family. We come here to ski and ice skate in the winter and we love coming in the summer too. Swimming, boating and stand-up paddle boarding are fabulous on the lake! The use of the community pool and bocce courts are an added bonus in the summer. We're looking forward to our next trip!

We spent a long weekend at this cabin this summer and had a terrific time. The photos don't do the house justice, it is rustic luxury. There are great hiking paths and mountain biking roads are right outside the door, leading to amazing vistas. The home owner is very easy to work with and went out of her way to make sure our booking was painless and our stay relaxing. We had previously rented this property for a week from its prior owners and enjoyed it so much it made us want to go back. On arrival this summer we were pleasantly surprised that all the things we liked about the house remained, and that the new owner had made some comfortable improvements in some of the furnishings. The kitchen really is a cook's dream. You can have a group in there cooking and have plenty of room to work. For skiiers, this definitely is a ski to the Tahoe Donner Ski Area home. We are already looking forward to returning.

The house is more than one can imagine; has a comfortable feel; the deck with a raised propane firepit, wonderful place to sit around at night to talk; large, cozy kitchen with sun streaming in through the windows in the morning; house filled with fresh baked yummies greeting us each morning; some great memories were definitely made. Our 20 months old grandson's first experiernce with snow right outside the house was toooo precious! Highly recommend dining at The Lodge. Superb! We appreciated the owner's quick response to our questions and quick turnaround time for our deposit refund. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and relatives.

A great spot to come with the family. In the summer we've gone hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing, horseback riding, and done archery through the Tahoe Donner rec program. In the winter it's sledding in the yard and skiing/snowboarding at Tahoe Donner, a super spot for younger kids since it is smaller and less crowded than other ski areas. Big family meals are easy - my husband and I love the kitchen. Wide selection of DVDs in the loft. Nice selection of family friendly games available too. House is clean and cozy and gorgeous. Owner is helpful. This is our favorite vacation retreat.

We had a wonderful time. Your home is so beautiful! My sisters say that you designed the house yourself. I recently did a significant remodel, but have not decorated yet. Where do you find all of the individual rustic pieces? Also, I really enjoyed looking at the detail of the different beams in the house. The beam that divides the family from the dining area is so captivating! I hope we can come again!

We arrived back in Orange County very late Sunday night, after a fabulous few days in Lake Tahoe. The wedding was beautiful, and we had nice enough weather that the ceremony was outside. Your home is absolutely perfect! We all LOVED it! The kitchen was ideal...even with three of us cooking up a storm! I was thrilled with the large Viking oven, as it handled 4 pies easily at a time (I have the smaller version of it). Not only is the home itself gorgeous, but every single touch, from the furniture to the dishes, was beautiful and and functional. You have fabulous taste and a knack for decorating! Thank you, thank you for sharing your home with us.
