"Dordogne is said to be one of the most beautiful rivers in France. The variety and beauty of the landscape and the architectural glories that mark its banks make the valley a first-class attraction... Gastronomy in the Dordogne ranks high among the marvels of France." - Michelin Guide
"France may one day exist no more, but the Dordogne will live on just as dreams live on and nourish the souls of men." - Henry Miller
Location, location, location.
The village of Mezels was built on sloping hills, below the majestic cliffs of the Causse and overlooking the Dordogne River. Thanks to its privileged location and architectural heritage, the village is protected by the French ministry of Culture.
As a testimony to Mezels' serene beauty and Eden-like atmosphere, several artists have bought property in Mezels. Artists Kozo and Vincent Guiro are amongst those who find inspiration and keep a studio here.
Our House is Your House
The Savignac farmhouse dates back to the 18th century (c. 1720). Its thick stone walls keep it cool during hot summer days; and warm when a log fire is burning.
The house was entirely renovated a couple of years ago, with Parisian architect and sculptor Antoine Larene — our dear friend who also has a country house in the village — leading the project.
There is a spacious terraced garden around the house, and five minutes down the road, we have just inaugurated a superb, salt water, 11 meter (36 foot) swimming pool, looking out over the river, snug in the lush valley vegetation. Share with us this secluded garden!
Culture and Leisure
No matter how long you stay, you will not have enough time to visit all the sights and treasures the region offers.
In and around Mezels, at all seasons, nature is preserved, gorgeous and splendid. It is the ideal environment for countless outdoor activities.
The region is famous for its gastronomy. Confit, truffles, foie gras, AOC cheeses and wines, local farmer markets with amazing produce and fruits, creperies and michelin starred restaurants -it is a gourmet's dream come true!
We are looking forward to welcoming you soon at the Savignac house for a genuine French country vacation. As writer Remy de Gourmont put it so well: 'Leisure is Man's greatest joy and most beautiful conquest'...and Mezels the ideal place to experience it. |
