We had a great time here. The cabin was very cozy and looked great. Being inside was always an enjoyable experience. We loved the seclusion and the atmosphere. One of our party wasn't feeling well and Michael was very accomodating with us extending our check-out time. I would strongly recommend this place.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed our short 2 night stay at this quaint cabin. It was clean, comfortable, and allowed us to get away from the noise of the city. We even got to bring his dog. My bf had never stayed or considered staying in the "wilderness" but he was won over almost immediately by its tranquility. His first comment out of the car was "Did you hear that?" and then noted, "it's SO quiet!" He did that again as we were packing to leave. The only downside to the cabin in our eyes was the climb to and from our car, parked above the cabin and that we had traverse up some wobbly steps at the top. It is not for the out-of-shape and looked like it could be treacherous in ice/snow/heavy rain. We had neither but we definitely got a workout. I also have to wonder what it is like to get up the mountain in the snow/ice. The final 1/3 up was on a dirt/sand road. Regardless, we had a pleasant time, enjoyed the wildlife (elk, deer and a red fox) and enjoyed the beautiful scenery.
Owner response:To our valued prosective guests; Please note that our listing decribes the steps required to access the Log Cabin from the Parking area and we suggest in the listing, to prospective guests, that may be physically challeged, that they may want to review lodging options at any one of our 7 other Homeaway or VRBO listed Evergreen Colorado Wilderness Location Vacation Homes where one can drive right up to the front door and have the conveinence of an Urban Style flat access in a magnificent Wilderness Setting. We are sorry that this valued guest experienced difficulty in walking up and down the gently sloped access steps to the Log cabin. There are no "Wobbly Steps" in the Stairway to the Cabin. We encourage discriminating travelers to read deep into the extensive list of reviews from past guests at the "Log Cabin" and discover, thru the eyes of others, what an extraordinary Wilderness Lodging Experience awaits those who will not be challenged by our gently sloped access stairway to "Evergreen's Log Cabin". Please call or E-mail anytime if you have questions about this or any other issues concerning your prospective stay at any of our 8 Wilderness Cabins-Cottages, and Vacation Homes. In addition we are open year round. Our wonderfull Colorado Winters bring plentiful snow for you to play in and enjoy the wonderment of all that a Rocky Mountian Winter had to offer. We diligently clear the walkways and roads to insure our guests safe and easy passage. Sincerely "Michael" Your Evergreen Colorado Vacation home Lodging Host !!

This was the perfect place for our family to get away. The scenery was beautiful as we enjoyed the pine trees and views of the mountains. We were able to be together in the cozy cabin and enjoyed the gas fireplace. Quiet, peaceful and serene. We appreciated the affordability of this retreat, do to this owners' terrific cleaning policy. A great place to go to re-connect with nature!

Looking to get away in the mountains without the summit county resort prices, look no further! You'll get better customer service, and have a wonderful time for far less than half the price. When I wanted to plan a special weekend getaway for my boyfriends birthday without totally breaking the bank, I searched VRBO and found Michael's Log Cabin. It was perfect! Booking couldn't be easier and Michael is very personable and professional. He even takes credit cards. Michael emailed me directions to the cabin and rental confirmation immediately after I confirmed with him over the phone, and I really appreciated his willingness to accommodate my dog. The pet policy and pet deposit were extremely reasonable for a vacation rental. When the big weekend finally arrived, the directions were flawless, but I would follow the instructions and not attempt the drive without a 4-wheel drive or SUV of some kind. We went in February and the roads are certainly well-maintained and cleared of snow, but they are rustic and winding and in wet weather, be it winter or summer, a 2-wheel drive vehicle with low clearance would not suffice. The cabin is well appointed and as adorable and charming as it appears in the pictures. There were plenty of dishes, plates, pans etc to cook a complete dinner and the kitchen is nice and clean. Upon departure, we followed the clearly posted instructions for cleaning the cabin to get your deposit back, which was easy to do and didn't take long at all. What a nice option! Take advantage of this great option if you want to save yourself some money on your getaway. If that's not your style, cleaning upon departure can be arranged thru Michael. I received confirmation via email that my deposit would be returned later that day. What prompt service! We had a great weekend and can't wait to come back once the snow melts for some mountain biking and grilling out on the great deck. Thank you for sharing your Evergreen Mountain paradise with us, we had a blast!
Owner response:Please note; To our Valued Prospective Guests. As noted in our VRBO listings you only need an All Wheel/4 Wheel Drive SUV during wintertime snow months. All other times of year your 2 Wheel/Front Wheel Drive Automobile will work just fine. The Roads to our 8 VRBO Listed Vacation Homes are Publicly Maintained, 2 lanes wide, open year round, and ARE NOT "Jeep Trails". If you have further questions please Call or E-mail me anytime. Sincerely Michael - We look Forward to your visit !! Your Evergreen Colorado VRBO Vacation Home Lodging Host

This cabin is very cozy and stocked with everything needed to feel at home. We loved it! The only "different" part about our new couple vacation was the bathroom privacy part. There is a swing open saloon stye bathroom door, so needless to say we got very close on this trip. Hehe. But sledding in the cabins backyard was a highlight. Skiing was about 45 min out in Loveland and that was fun! The owner Micheal is very helpful and informative with any of the areas attractions. The town ofEvergreen is great, we loved it and would definitely come back!

The cabin was wonderful and cozy, especially after 2 feet of snow in one night. Luckily this cabin had all the amenities we needed so my girlfriend and I stayed very comfortable. It was very exclusive and we felt alone even though there are neighbors about. I recommend this to anyone looking to get away to some peace and quiet without having to go to far from civilization.

My husband, I and our 2 small dogs stayed in this cabin for a short break from the world and had a lovely time. I would say it is ideal for two but can hold more, with the extra beds upstairs. It was cozy and warm and lovely and quiet at night. You can walk right out the back to trails and meet no-one, which we loved. The kitchen has most things you need which means you can get in what you need and cook and eat at your prefered times...no trecking out to have to get food etc. But don't forget the fun cafes and restaraunts in Evergreen! Altogether we had a fun quiet and relaxing time which vwe would recommend.

This was our first cabin rental and we're glad we did this instead of a hotel. Everything as advertised. We're spoiled now. The cabin was well appointed with a fridge/freezer, pantry space, stove/oven, propane grill and kitchen wares. The kitchen and patio were as easy to cook in as home. The TV got good signal for news and weather watching. Local shows too. Our cell phones worked even inside. Blackberry with T-Mobile. Sleeping space is plentiful and comfortable. The Monopoly board game even had all the pieces and the deck of playing cards was complete. The cabin was clean and well built. Water and electric worked fine. We didn't need the heat. With lows in the high 50s, it felt great in the cabin even at night. Fox and deer were right outside every morning. We saw woodpeckers, squirrels and stellar jays too. Great scenery all around. The drive up is easy. We did it at the end of August with a rented Hyundai Elantra. Even the brief nightly rains did not cause a driving problem. I could see wanting a 4 wheel drive in winter though. Subaru awd is popular on the mountain and this is on the mountain, farther up than the multi-room lodges. One guy even had a big sail boat on a trailer up there. Micheal's driving directions are right on. We had mapquest and Tom-Tom One as back-up. Not needed, but pretty close. Just had to realize Tom-Toms "turn left" meant the road turns left, not that it shows a road the whole way. Use Micheal's directions. No problem. Evergreen is a nice vacation town with everything you need supply wise and entertainment too. Shops, restaurants and nature trails. We didn't want for anything and didn't meet an unfriendly person in all of Colorado. The trip into to Denver was a snap. Micheal was a great and unobtrusive host. We called to say we were there and he called to make sure we had all we needed. He even dropped off extra supplies.

This cabin is in a beautiful setting, even though the view of the mountains is between trees. The kitchen was very clean and convenient and the bed was very comfortable. Having WiFi included was also a big plus. I didn't need to contact the owners but understood they were available. This place was perfect for what I wanted... a quiet getaway with natural beauty surrounding you. I especially enjoyed seeing fox and deer from the cabin and watching a mule deer doe chase a black fox away from her fawn the last morning near the cabin. That being said... I would not recommend it for someone who is not able to tote their luggage up and down a pretty steep set of rough stairs. I was in good physical condition and was wishing I had brought less stuff. Also, the road is well maintained but it is dirt and when I was there, the "washboarding" on the curves made me anxious about the rental car's front end alignment. I was thankful for the owner's advice about bringing your groceries when you come because it is not close to any stores or restaurants. Overall, I would highly recommend this property for someone who wants to get away from the daily grind and have all the conveniences you would need.

I was disappointed that the description of the parking amenities were not clearer. We had to park on the road which was roughly 15 steep stairs above the cabin. Also the loft in the cabin was padlocked, and I found that to be unnecessary. The cabin was very warm and there were only three small windows to open that contained screens. There were rules and signs posted everywhere and my husband and I did not feel relaxed or welcome during our stay at the cabins. I would not return to this rental property.

We rented this place instead of staying in a hotel while attending a wedding in Evergreen. The setting was peaceful, the cottage was comfortable and well-appointed. Michael was very responsive to questions. The path from the road is a bit of a struggle carrying luggage on the way up, but that's a small issue.

My husband and I stayed in the log cabin for 3 nights for just a kid free weekend. As suggested from Michael, we did rent a 4 wheel drive SUV and were glad we did. The road/terrain to get to the cabin was steep as well as the steps/entrance to the cabin. Cute cabin with just about every ammenity you would need. Bought a few groceries and we were set for the weekend. Very cozy and relaxing for the two of us. Had a good time!!
Owner response:As noted in our VRBO property listing and on our web site, an All Wheel or 4 Wheel Drive vehicle is only required in the winter during snow months. During the Summer season your 2 Wheel Drive or front Wheel Drive vehicle will work just fine. The roads to the Log Cabin are Public Maintained and we have never had a guest that could not easily get to and from the Log Cabin at any time of year. Yes there are steep inclined roads but this is the Rocky Mountains and you will find steep roads everywhere in the Colorado Rockies and this is one of the terrian features that contributes to the beauty of Evergreen Colorado. Please call us if you have questions.....Sincerely Michael - Your evergreen Colorado Lodging Host

"Wow", what a beautiful place! We loved everything about it. The cabin was clean, cozy and well maintained. Michael was very helpful. He was always just a phone call away. It is always scary choosing a place to stay when all you have are pictures and a description. We were not dissapointed! The people of the area were very friendly as well. I would recommend this Cabin to anyone that enjoys the mountains and all the beauty. We hope to come back some day.

My new wife and I rented this cabin for our little honeymoon getaway. We stayed a week and had a wonderful time. The cabin was cute, clean and served our needs. I'd consider it to be semi-rustic. We had gotten fresh snow and the 4WD was a definite must. I loved the snowy drive and the seclusion it provided once we got to the cabin. While there are other cabins close by we felt as though we had the world to ourselves. If renting a vehicle in the winter, factor in the expense for the 4WD. The parking is up above the cabin with about a 100ft walk down a path and stairs. If mobility is an issue this might prove challenging for you. It was not an issue at all for us but could for some. While we had minimal interaction (or need for it), the owner was very accomodating and appeared willing to do whatever was needed to make us happy. The cabin is a solid 15 minute drive to Evergreen for the grocery store (Safeway). There is also a Wal-Mart about 25 minutes away. If you are used to having a convenience store around the corner, plan your schedule / meals accordingly. Evergreen itself is a cute little town with several little art galleries and shops. Seems like a very nice community. This was a very good experience for us and the cabin suited our needs.
Owner response: As noted in all of our listings on VRBO we advise all of our valued guests, in the Winter Time, in the Rocky Mountains you cannot drive up and down hills on the day of a snow storm in a 2 Wheel Drive Vehicle. We advise all of our guests to rent or bring a "All Wheel Drive" or " 4 Wheel Drive" vehical for thier saftey and comfort of travel during thier winter time visit. Our roads are well maintained and we enjoy excellent Municiple snow plowing, and we snow plow all driveways. That said, the appropriate winter vehicle is still required on Snow days in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. In Summer your 2 wheel drive or front wheel drive car works just fine...Please call us any time to discuss.................. By the way evan thought the Cabin might be considered "Semi-Rustic" in looks only, it is fully updated and equipped with all the modern ammenities..........Please see additional reviews below from many of our past wonderful guests ..Sincerely Michael

We enjoyed our weekend stay at the Evergreen's Log Cabin. The little touches (books, movies, CD's, etc.) were fantastic, I only wish I could have enjoyed them more instead of working so much. The hot showers were great but I would recommend checking the temp before getting in as the water gets really hot. We would definitely return.

We enjoyed the cute and comfortable cabin. Arriving there was difficult with the rough roads. Probably best driving a SUV; especially during the winter season. A couple of walks with our dogs was enjoyable. They ran and enjoyed the beautiful area. Our one time drive to Evergreen to have lunch and coffe at the Java was grea; friendly and inexpensive lunch.

My friends and I (five) were attending an event in Lakewood. Having thought about it and being it my first time to Colorado I couldn't imagine spending it in a stuffy motel room where your lucky to open a window. Just sitting on the deck taking it all in with the surrounding forest made it all worthwhile. The little town of Evergreen is pretty cool as well and the directions were spot-on from Michael and he provided everything we needed for a great vacation. I hope to be back and would recommend it to anyone.

Michael is a wonderful host and his cabin is all we needed for relaxing and letting our busy days behind us. It is exactly like in the description: calm, remote and secluded with a touch of luxury in the wilderness. You really need a 4 wheel drive to get here, but then you get the simple life you are looking for. Evergreen is a cute little town and Rocky Mountains NP is close by. Michael, thank you for your hospitality. We will remember the evening we spent together with a glass of wine and a very interesting diskussion. Oliver & Birgit, the Germans from Virginia

My husband and I decided to head to a "log cabin in the woods" for Christmas, 2009. Not only did we find the perfect place less than an hour from our home, but we were able to take our two dogs with us for a nominal fee of $35.00! Upon arrival at the cabin, we immediately felt welcomed and special when we saw a freshly cut Christmas tree, brand new ornaments and a tree skirt waiting for us to decorate. This really touched us! Lastly, a few minutes before we had to leave, I looked up through the window and saw a mule deer and her two fawns grazing 10 feet away. What a nice way to end this special getaway.

We arrived in Evergreen (without our children) with the intention to become reconnected with one another. We considered the cabin and the community itself to be hidden treasures. The cabin was so cozy and relaxing. When I am having a bad day or just relaxing in the tub I close my eyes and drift away to to the little cabin in Evergreen. I loved the bedroom the most ... the huge windows were the perfect compliment to the view outdoors, the leather recliner in the corner was the perfect place to curl up and read, and the fireplace only enhanced it all. I can't wait to go back ... until then I will use it as a place to escape in my mind.

We found the cabin to be just what we needed for a little anniversary getaway. Clean, well-stocked, and at a great time of year to enjoy the nature that surrounds. Clean cabin and linens, quaint decor and a rustic feel really made this place feel like home away from home. If I have 1 minor complaint to make, it is that my wife (5'10") and I (6'2") were a little too tall for the dining area--but it was hardly an inconvenience.

As a reclusive writer-artist, I appreciate out of the way, comfy lodging. If I need to go into town, yup....if I don't, don't have to! In this log cabin, you are not missing a thing. Super clean, quiet (except for some daytime construction noise down the hill) but altogether very cool. On my last morning a BLACK FOX with a white-tipped tail stopped, lingered watching me.....precious. I am already planning a late Autumnal sojourn back......ah, Evergreen......

We had the most wonderful experience at the log cabin in Evergreen. We fell in love with the town and all the surroundings and the cabin was the perfect venue to experience it all. We had such an amazing time, we are actually considering moving to Evergreen. Not only was the cabin stocked full of everything we could ever need and was beautiful inside, we could sit on the back porch and watch foxes and elk around us. It was incredible. We will be back soon, hopefully for good!

I wanted to surprise my fiancé with a memorable Valentine's weekend and the Evergreen cabin was certainly the perfect solution. Waking up to a fresh snow fall in a cozy, warm, and very clean cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We were certainly unhappy to have to leave such a wonderful location after our 3 days. Thank you for everything….our stay was unforgettable!

My Wife wanted our two boys to have a white Christmas this year and that is exactly what we got. What a wonderful experience. Michael Carter was a great help prior to our trip and a wonderful host during our stay. He picked out a tree for our Christmas and had our 4 year old help him cut it down while we filmed it. I particularly enjoyed waking up early and watching the sun rises over the mountains, what a sight. You can’t buy those memories. Thank you for everything. Tom & Dawn Porter

I spent 3 wonderful nights at this cabin with my family. It was by far one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have been. Michael was very attentive and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable and welcomed. The location was GREAT! very close from everthing we wanted to see. The cabin was very clean and it had absolutely everyting ( even more ) we needed to cook, sleep and entertain ourselves. I can't wait to go back!

The property accomodation was wonderful. The Log Cabin met all of our needs. Our long awaited expectation of a great retreat in the mountains was everything it could be. Michael, great job of taking care of your guests. We shall return!

The cabin is absolutely beautiful! We really enjoyed our stay there. It was very peaceful and relaxing. The first evening we saw a red fox passing through. The next morning we had a deer come right up to cabin! It was a very enjoyable vacation. We really appreciated the extra bed in the loft for the girls. Thanks for everything Michael!
