I would love to retutrn to this cabin that is really a huge beautiful clean house on a peninsula. We enjoyed it's accessibility to all the awesome national treasures(Yellowstone, The Grand Tetons and Island Park) Theonly problem was that the DVD player was not working, so I would bring my own for the kids.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.

My family had an excellent time at the cabin over a long weekend in January. Burt guided us in by snowmobile over 6 miles of freshly groomed trails and he provided sleds for us to haul our gear. From the cabin you can connect to snowmobile trails that go to the Island Park area. We also enjoyed wonderful cross country skiing from the cabin. If you enjoy ice fishing, the cabin is right on the lake and the fishing is good. The cabin was stocked with plenty of wood for the wood stove and everything needed for a comfortable stay! We had a great time and hope to return again soon!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

We absolutely loved this home and it fit our family perfectly. It was a just right balance of rustic beauty and everyday amenities. The lake was lovely and provided great fishing opportunities. The only problem was that the cabin took quite a while to get to from the main highway and was VERY far from Yellowstone. We had snow during our stay and it took us two hours each way to get to Yellowstone. We did not realize this home was so far from the park. The 15 miles from Ashton is on windy roads (about half way it turns to dirt and sand) and takes about 45 minutes to navigate even in our large SUV with four wheel drive. From there it is another hour or more depending on weather to Yellowstone. So if you are looking for a great cabin in a quiet secluded spot to spend some time with loved ones, this house is PERFECT. If you are looking for a place to stay at night while you enjoy Yellowstone during the day, you will be very frustrated by the location of this home. We spent about 10-12 hours driving and $300 on gas during the three days we stayed at the house and drove to Yellowstone each day. We felt misled by the advertised location of the home and our vacation was definitely impacted by the distance from Yellowstone. Next time we will be more careful about pinpointing location. We also couldn't use the fireplace because it had not been cleaned out and was too full of ashes and debris to be used, and there was not enough dry firewood for a fire. There was lots of firewood outside but it was all soaking wet due to rain and snow. We were sad about that because we were really looking forward to the wood stove. But the house itself is lovely and we enjoyed the cabin. We especially enjoyed playing board games together in the evenings.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

It's been almost 1 year since our visit to the cabin. We loved it! It was the perfect relaxing getaway for us and our 2 kids. The canoe trips around the lake were great fun! The snow made it all so beautiful. We would love to come back someday!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

8-25-02 Your cabin is wonderful- exactly the "R & R" we were looking for. We wish we would have had more time to spend on the lake and just relaxing on the deck. A relaxing way to end two & a half weeks on the road exploring. Thanks so much.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2001
About the owner: Having grown up on a lake in northern Minnesota, when Burt Butler moved from North Carolina to Idaho in 1993 to work for the state court system, one of his dreams was to find secluded lakefront property that his four children could enjoy, and ultimately build a cabin that Diane could consider a comfortable second home. That dream came true in 1998 when Burt and Diane Butler found a unique secluded lakefront property on a peninsula with a gentle shoreline and spectacular fishing with no motor boats allowed on the lake. In the Fall of 2001 the elegant and rustic cabin was started and finished in June 2002.
Why the Owner Chose Island Park:
Our secluded vacation property, with close proximity to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, is only a 75 minute drive from our home in Idaho Falls, and offered year round recreation opportunity for our family. Swimming, canoeing, fishing and outdoor fires under the stars in the summer, Fall colors and 4 wheeling in the sand dunes adjacent to the lake, and early winter ice skating, and when the snow gets deep great cross country skiing and snow mobiling and the enjoyment of a wood stove.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Peace, quiet, fires outside and inside, barbecue on the deck and dutch oven cooking, great fishing, wildlife variety from frogs, beavers, trumpeteer swans, birds of all varieties including bald eagles, moose, deer, to a sighting of a wolf.
