Location: Manuel Antonio, Manuel Antonio Area, Puntarenas, Costa Rica, Central America (3 hours drive or 20 minute flight from San Jose)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4-6)
Faced with an array of highly stimulating activities on your visit to Manuel Antonio, strangely enough, you may find that sitting right here on the large porch of La Casa Neruda, will rank as one of your favorites. I am sure that the poetry of the vista and the endless caress of sea breezes and wildlife sightings will work its magic on you as well as it has on me.
To arrive at this most breathtaking view, you do have to climb 100 steps. They are, however, positioned in such a way as to zig-zag gently up and down the slope, and are well lit at night. Casa Neruda keeps company with three other small houses that sit atop this cliff and together are called the Condominium Biesanz (after famed wood sculptor, Barry Biesanz, who, still keeps the lower cottage as a summer house). Fortunately, there is a small elevator to carry your luggage, in case you forgot to pack light. Whew! There is a tiny but brand-new parking area out front, where three cars can fit, snugly.
The house itself is replete with old world charm, completely wood interior and ingenious design, apparently that of an Austrian architect. When you are in any of the rooms in the house, although you can see at least three different views, you are shielded from the eyes of others. Each of the bedrooms upstairs has a double bed and an ocean view. There is room for one more person on the twin balconette downstairs. All of the sleeping areas have mosquito nets, so you can sleep bug free.
There are many beaches to choose from, all within just a five to ten minute walk (Playa Espadilla, and Playitas are two), as well as the heralded Manuel Antonio National Wildlife Refuge (Parque Nacional de Manuel Antonio), where you can hire a guide or just hike around and see the animals for yourself. Everything you need, (banks, cafes, supermarkets) is either within walking distance or in the town of Quepos, which is a ten minute bus ride away.
The caretakers, Bismarck and Gloria, will gladly do their best to make you comfortable and provide any assistance you may need during your stay here. Enjoy!
