Accommodations: house, 4 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-6)
Keywords: Vacation Home
This early 19th century house has been home to our family for 175 years. The charm of an old New England farmhouse is complimented by 2 modern bathrooms, a large kitchen with a dishwasher, and a laundry room with a washer & dryer.
Located on 26 acres of open fields and woods the property runs from Reach Road to the shore of Benjamin River Bay on Eggemoggin Reach, just south of the Sedgwick town landing. Benjamin River is home to lobster boats and pleasure craft and is a popular overnight mooring for Windjammers.
Take your camera and walk to the shore, there’s always something to see: A starfish clinging to the dock or a windjammer setting sail. Located between Deer Isle and Blue Hill you’ll find hiking trails, art galleries, antique shops and Nervous Nellies Jams and Jellies, all within a short drive. Popular attractions, Acadia, Schoodic, Bar Harbor, Isle Au Haut & Fort Knox are all close by. At days end relax, watch the spectacular night sky, and listen to the bullfrogs in the pond.
Sedgwick is one of 37 towns in Hancock County. Three bays separate the coastal communities into three unique regions. The Bar Harbor/Acadia park region is bordered by Frenchman and Blue Hill Bays and is the area best known to tourists. East of Frenchman Bay are the towns on Schoodic Peninsula. These are isolated towns, well off the beaten path.
The Deer Isle/Blue Hill peninsula lies between Penobscot and Blue Hill bays. Sedgwick and eight other towns are located on the Peninsula. The Peninsula is home to 12,000 people, about a quarter of the population of Hancock County. Many of the residents are self employed entrepreneurs working as artists, authors, fishermen, boat builders, and other skilled craftsmen.
Summer brings some visitors to the Peninsula but not the crowds you will find in Ellsworth and Acadia. The area has a rich heritage, the first Europeans arrived over 400 years ago. The three bays, dozens of small coves, and numerous lakes provide many miles of secluded waterfront.
