Everybody agrees that the house and the city are brilliant. The house was very nice and lived up to our expentations - especially the children was very happy with the pool. We have been to Usez before and it is still a very beautiful place. The owners rep. was very helpfull when we had to find a doctor to one of the children. The river Gard, wine tours and Avignon was among our favorites.

Owner response: Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review. We are so glad that you had a good holiday. I did not realise that this was your second visit to Uzes - but I am not surprised. Visitors keep on coming back to Uzes and the area. There is so much to do and see. I will pass on your comments about her to Marie the housekeeper - she is a huge asset to the house. It is great to have someone like her close at hand to call on. Her favourite saying is "there are no problems, only solutions" - a very positive philosophy with which I very much agree. Thank you once again and we hope that when you make your third visit to Uzes, you will choose to stay at Les Palmiers again.
Even Better than Expected
Even Better than Expected
We spent 2 wonderful weeks in Uzes – a couple + 2 single adults – and were all very happy with both Uzes and Les Palmiers. The house and grounds are even more attractive than the photos show. It was very hot during our stay but the lovely courtyard was a shady oasis for lazy afternoons round the pool, which was as sparkling as claimed. The house itself is airy and comfortable, very well equipped with kitchen items and appliances, and everything very clean and well maintained. Location is excellent: a short walk to the town centre and even shorter walk to the closest bakery and supermarket. We particularly appreciated Marie’s friendly welcome and the information Maggie emailed us on shops, restaurants and places to see. As this was our first visit to Uzes, we found this a great help in starting us off on our local explorations; there really is a lot to see and do without going very far afield. We have no hesitation recommending Les Palmiers to our friends, and hope to go back ourselves some time. The only thing we would do differently is that we would not bother to rent a car for the whole period. We found the local buses cheap and convenient, and would only need to hire a car for the occasional trip further afield.

Owner response: Thank you very much for this review We are very glad that you had such a great time. As you say, the house is perfect for holidays, although we also have regular long winter lets - a Canadian couple are coming back to stay this year for the sixth time. Uzes and the area are also totally beguiling I do not really know what more to say - you have said it ALL! I will pass on your comments to Marie, our fantastic housekeeper - she is a gem! Thank you very much once again. You are welcome back anytime
We stayed at Les Palmiers with another family and had a wonderful time. The house was perfect with a large kitchen, dining room and salon on the ground floor. The grounds outside were gorgeous with the swimming pool and beautiful trees and flowers. It's an easy walk to the center of Uzes. Most mornings, I went to La Nougatine for a coffee and pain au chocolat and was greeted with a smile by Nadine. I loved the atmosphere at the Place aux Herbes, with the restaurants and shops all around. I thought that the town would be somewhat sleepy on a Sunday but there were many places open and lots of people walking around. The three teenage boys in our group loved walking into town on their own and getting paninis and then going to the park. Uzes is a very walkable town and I couldn't believe how many different stores and restaurants there are for a town this size. We loved going to see the Pont du Gard, which is not far away. There is also a nice wine store on the way there - Les Collines du Bourdic - see their website at http://www.vins-sud-de-france.com/bourdic-collines-bourdic.php. Outside of Uzes, we went to Montpellier for a bike tour of the city and went to Nimes for a Segway tour. Maggie, the owner of this property in Uzes, was very prompt and friendly with her e-mails and provided many helpful ideas for places to eat and things to do. I feel that our one week here only permitted us to scratch the surface. I want to spend more time exploring. If our finances permit, we will definitely come back!

Owner response: Thank you very much for this wonderful review. I really appreciate the time that you have taken to write in so much detail La Nougatine is my favourite boulangerie for bread and cakes too - I am particularly partial to their croissant aux amandes (croissant filled with delicious almond paste). I don't think I know Nadine but I will find out who she is during my next visit!! That is one of the great things about Uzes, everyone is very friendly and people get to know you very quickly As you say, Uzes is a very walkable town with a lot to see and something for holidaymakers of all ages. Even though I first came to Uzes 12 years ago, it is just as wonderful each time I return I remember reading in a magazine a while ago that the Pont du Gard is the 4th most visited historical site in France so I am glad that you did not miss it. We seem to share the same taste, as Bourdic is one of my favourite wine caves, although there are a few others too which I can recommend were you to visit Uzes again One week is definitely not enough so I hope you do manage another visit in the future.Thank you once again for this review and all your complimentary words. You are welcome back anytime

A Fine Time in Uzes
A Fine Time in Uzes
The house and the hospitality of its owner were outstanding. My only quibble was with the weather, which, of course, is beyond even Maggie's control! Though the pool beckoned, we could only bear it for a minute or two: this was an exceptionally cool latter half of May. The town is charming, the Saturday market (even in a downpour!) was worth the trip; and the Wednesday market wasn't bad, either. Walks down by the river were superb. The wine merchants were approachable and helpful. Teroir, on the Marche aux herbs, even stocked a particular vintage I was looking for. We enjoyed our dinner at Renaissance. Perhaps best of all, Maggie made a real effort to hunt down outstanding bakers in the area, which was greatly appreciated. It turns out that some of the best regional bread can be found at the little bakery next to her place. As I recall, the bread is pain Gardoise. The property was certainly as described: clean and well maintained. Any minor problem was attended to promptly. I'd thoroughly recommend it.

Owner response: Thank you Mark for your review and your compliments. I am so glad that you all had a great holiday in Uzes, even if it was unusually wet for the time of year. I have lived for quite some time in Uzes, so there are not many questions that I can't answer or that I don't know where to find the answer. It is good to hear that you were comfortable and enjoyed staying in Les Palmiers. You will have to come again - I promise to see what I can do about the weather next time!!
Uzes Family Retreat
Uzes Family Retreat
My family of 2 adults and 3 teens stayed in this home for one week this summer. It was heaven! The bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and sitting rooms were immaculate. The pool was the highlight of our stay, and was in constant use. We did our tours in the mornings and spent the afternoons around the pool. The location of this property is ideal for touring the Gard region of Languedoc, as well as the western side of Provence including Avignon, Orange, the Rhone wine regions of Gigondas, Chateauneuf Du Pap and the even closer wine regions of Tavel and Listel. The management team is a pleasure to deal with and made the rental transaction as easy as possible. We would not hesitate to recommend this rental unit to our family and friends, and can't wait to have the opportunity to visit again.

Owner response: Thank you very much for this review. We are so glad that you all enjoyed your holiday and your stay at les Palmiers. The house is ideal for families as you say, with room enough for everyone, but it is also often rented by couples Yes - the pool is a great draw but the nearness of the house to the main square, La Place aux Herbes, as well as to the shops, restaurants and other amenities, is perfect as well Les Palmiers makes a great base for visiting the region - and although it seems that you managed to see quite a lot of the area, you are very welcome back again to stay at Les Palmiers to see the rest!

It was a pleasure to stay in your house
Hi Maggie We left your place this morning and I have to say we had a tremendous time. Uzes is stunning and a great base for the day trips. It was a pleasure to stay in your house. The photos on the internet do not do it justice - it oozes character and is so comfortable and well appointed - we loved it. We even used the pool every day! Thanks so much and please thank Marie for her time and courteous nature and putting up for my very weak French! Kind Regards Peter

Home from home - lovely family atmosphere
We have now rented Les Palmiers, Uzes on 5 occasions over the last 10 years which shows we obviously enjoy our stay in this lovely French House. Perfect location 5 minute walk to the centre of Uzes. Reach by a small door to a secure and secret walled garden and villa. You would not know it is there and thus very safe for children. The house and gardens we find charming, not minimalistic!! Very French and not so perfect that you are afraid to put down a glass of red wine or constantly moaning at young children - very very homely. Good sized bedrooms and bathrooms and wet rooms, lovely 3rd floor light and airy room, plenty of space to get away from everyone and find some peace if you need it. Everything you could need in the way of cooking and dining utensils, lovely outside tables and chairs for sunbathing and wonderful pool area safely surrounded by fencing. The location is ideal - easy level walk to Place aux Herbes, garaging for car and Marie who looks after the house is great, nothing is too much trouble for her. Some things in the house are very French - wiring and sometimes drains need a plunge or two but no more than you would find in any French home, do not have the same English approach to complying with EU rules. However, not a problem at all, all lights worked and washing machine, dishwasher and dryers and showers worked at all times. I would thoroughly recommend this to any family for a lovely relaxing holiday.

Wonderful Property in a Beautiful Part of France
We very much enjoyed our stay at this property. The house is spacious and relaxing. We very much enjoyed the use of the pool and the large outdoor area. This is only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Uzes. We found the whole process of renting this property easy and the information provided by the owner was extremely useful - including her recommendations of where to eat!

House with a pool in the centre of Uzes
The house is typically French in style with a lovely balcony overlooking the garden. the washing machine was a must with our family of six and it was great to have a washing line outside. we were provided with plenty of towels etc. the house was very clean. it is in a brilliant location within easy walking distance of town so no car needed and no traffic jams to endure. the traffic is due to the popularity of the haribo factory on the outskirts and the saturday market. however there are back roads which allow one to circumvent this-if you have GPS or a detailed map. we chose this property for its close proximity to town and swimming pool and we were not disappointed. there is a boulangerie nearly next door which sells lovely bread and pastries. the children enjoyed buying croissants each morning. there is a supermarket two minutes walk away which was very well stocked. the house is next to a road but we had no problems with noise as the house is sheltered by shrubs and a high wall. uzes is a really beautiful town with lots of delightful shops and fantastic restaurants. Le Zanelli serves the best pizzas. les Terroirs has the best salads. the saturday market must be one of the best in France its awesome but very busy. we were very lucky as we were in uzes for the fete votive. the bull running, followed by the carnival parade, the live music and people dancing-it was the best night we had. uzes is well situated for the pont du gard, nimes,avignon,-- chateauneuf du pape etc and the lavender fields which are slightly further away but very worthwhile. the weather was hot. we had a great time in uzes and to find a house with a pool in the town was a rare find.
