The Ranch house is a gem in Durango! Winter was peaceful and beautiful and watching spring arrive was a delight. The location is so beautiful on the lake and the proximity to town easy and fast, yet you get the privacy and quiet of the mountains around you. I loved it!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My family of 4 spent 5 nights at Turtle Lake home in August 2011 and do not have one negative comment to make. We absolutely, positively loved every minute of our stay. The owner was excellent to work with and very understanding on a few misunderstandings. The house is cute and kitschy and perfect for a family of 4. We ate every meal on the deck overlooking one of the best views out there. The house is stocked with yard games and 5 boats to choose from. We never ran out of something to do and if we did, it was only a 10 minute drive to Historic Durango. We are telling all our friends and family about this little gem so book now b/c it is such a joy.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We have stayed in many VRBO listings and this was by far the most well-stocked. Anything you could need while on vacation was at the cabin. Plenty of linens, washcloths, bath towels, lake towels, toilet paper, soaps, shampoos, anything you could need for a kitchen, even refrigerated condiments. The lake (Chapman lake on some maps) was beautiful. We enjoyed all the boats. Some would probably enjoy swimming but coming from the South the water was too chilly for us. There is plenty to do around the cabin like the Durango-Silverton train, white water rafting, alpine sliding, and Mesa Verde which is about an hour away. However, one could be content with never leaving the cabin. Definitely a place we would return to and highly recommend to others!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

What a wonderful stay we had at the Turtle Lake house. This home is only 3 miles from Main Ave. in Durango on a beautiful country road. The house had everything you could possible need...just bring your clothes and food and you're set. The back patio has a beautiful view of the lake and mountains with a manicured yard large enough to hold a good football game in. The patio furniture was very nice and comfortable and we had every meal out there enjoying the view. At the lake there was a paddle boat, canoe and pontoon boat for our use although we did not get a chance to go out on them. Bring bug spray if you plan on staying out past dusk though. The mosquitoes are plenty as they would be around any body of water. The area is very peaceful and private. Shade trees are abundant. The house is absolutely charming for someone like me who loves old homes. It is decorated very tastefully but still holds the old charm of the era from which is was built...the 40's. The well is potable but as some wells taste fantastic and some don't, this one does not. But the owner provides bottled water so we found no problem at all with it. The beds were fantastic...a little to comfortable as it was hard to get out of bed in the morning! The main bathroom is large with a deep soaking tub. There is also a 3/4 bath on the 2nd bedroom that was very nice. The kitchen is small but usable and actually has decent counter space. The fridge is a small dorm size fridge but there is a full size fridge/freezer in the pump house next to the main house. The internet worked perfectly and there is cell reception (Verizon). The place is kid friendly...we had our 4 and 5 year old boys with us and they had a blast. The lake is far enough away that you can relax while they play outside (although never take your eyes of them because of the lake). This was definitely a find and we will be back again. Thank you for a wonderful stay!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed at Turtle Lake 08/01-08/2010 and had an amazing time. The location is only a few minutes from downtown Durango, which was ideal for our activities and window-shopping. There is also a grocery store that is even closer. However, the ranch is far enough away from town that the area is truly silent (with exception of birds) and at night you can see every star in the sky. The ranch house is beautifully decorated with western/cowgirl furniture and accessories. The kitchen and living space is large enough to make and enjoy all meals at home. The beds were beyond comfortable--despite all we had planned it was really tough to get out of bed! The grounds and lake are huge. We had the best time, and I can't imagine a better place to stay. Thank you, Candye!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
