This historic cabin is located on the banks of the Wild and Scenic Kern River in the residential neighborhood of Riverkern. It's a peaceful escape, located in the diverse ecosystem of the Kern River Valley. Our cabin is located 3 miles up the river from the main town of Kernville.

The Riverkern Cabin was built in 1952 from local Kernville brick, and is situated on one-half acre of riverfront property. From the back yard you are about 50 yards from the river and are surrounded by beautiful views and sounds of rushing water. By walking out the back yard, you can easily access the river and a short nature trail leads to Bubbles Beach, a big quiet eddy with sandy shores.

Our cabin is old fashioned and rustic. We lovingly restored it 12 years ago, and enjoy sharing it with considerate people who appreciate a simple, yet comfortable setting. The ambiance is complimented by antique furnishings and artwork of the Sierra.

In winter the cabin is heated by wood stove. Wood is provided, but the renter should be comfortable with stoking the fire to stay warm. There is a swamp cooler for keeping cool in the summer.

The kitchen is supplied with a stove, coffee maker, toaster, dishes and basic condiments. There is no TV, microwave or dishwasher. Sometimes internet can be picked up free from a neighbor, but is not provided.

Across the street, Riverkern has a small store for last minute items and simple meals, as well as a dinner restaurant next door.

The town of Kernville, located three miles down the road, is a recreational center with outfitters for rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and fly fishing. It has a small town atmosphere with restaurants, antique stores, a historic museum and riverside park. This amazing area is the gateway to the Sequoia National Forest, home of the Needles climbing area and the Forks of the Kern.

All of my communications with Lynne were quick and easy setting up the reservation. The house is perfect - - has all the amenities you need (including lots of blankets and cut wood for the stove - both necessary in winter - and pillows and all the main kitchen implements we could need). Pictures and description on listing were accurate. It's also simply and tastefully decorated (and very clean). The general store across the street is closed in winter, FYI, but it is a QUICK drive down the street to Kernville. It's also an easy walk to the Day Use area which has some very pretty sections of the river, not that you really have to go anywhere with great river access right in the backyard. This was our first time in town not camping, but the price was perfect and we were definitely warmer than we would otherwise have been. There's also a fantastic selection of books in the house - - it was torture for me not to take an armful home with me, not having had time to finish them while I was there! :) We brought our school-age kids and they loved the house and it was perfectly comfortable for the four of us. We checked out the fish hatchery, hiked the meadow across the way, fished at Headquarters, and took in a movie (It's a Wonderful Life played for free on New Year's Day!) at Reel Cinema in Wofford Heights. We ate dinner once at the Kern River Brewing Company. Beer good, food acceptable. I highly recommend the town and the house.

Had a great time on the Kern river. The house was clean and just above the river. You could hear it at night which was wonderful! Could walk to store and restaraunt and kernville just minutes away.I will be looking forward to my next visit

My boyfriend & I really needed a quiet, relaxing place to decompress and get away for a few days. This place was perfect! A lovely little cabin furnished for comfort overlooking the beautiful Kern River. We had the windows open at night, and the sound of the rushing water and crickets was so soothing. Mornings & evenings we enjoyed relaxing on the patio and taking nice walks along the river. Just a few miles away was Kernville, which was perfect when we didn't feel like cooking or grilling. We will definitely go back, and recommend it highly for anyone looking for peace & quiet, and not scared of no internet/tv connections! Thank you Lynne!!

This was my umpteenth visit to the cabin, and it never loses its charm. Beautiful scenery, quiet environment, comfortable accommodations. You get all the relaxation of the mountains within a stone's throw of the conveniences of town. Love that the place has no TV or Internet, makes everyone take the time to enjoy the sights and sounds of the river. My family always has a great time, and I come home relaxed. Highly recommend a visit to Riverkern!

Our small family (3 + 2 pugs) had such a great time. We had wine on the patio while listening and watching the kern river flow by at night and in the day walked the trails and fished right behind the cabin. The cabin was cozy and clean. The general store was a 2 minute walk. Great atmosphere!

About the owner: Lynne and David live in South Pasadena and journey often to Kernville to climb, kayak, ski and mountain bike.

                      Why the Owner Chose Kernville:
Lynne has been kayaking Kernville since 1990 and loves the river environment and the community. Thirteen years ago, she was fortunate to find this little cabin for sale on the banks of the Kern. It was in terrible shape, but all it needed was some tender loving care. She and David recently got married, and now the whole family enjoys the beauty of the area and the experiences it provides.

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
The river sounds wonderful and the views of mountains are stunning. It's easy to hike, swim and kayak right from the back door. We love being outside on the trails, skiing, hiking and climbing, exploring antique stores in town and seeing friends at the Brew Pub!
