Map & Owner's Profile
Oceanview - Short Walk to the Sandy Ocean Beach Aquinnah
Year Purchased: 1994
Why the Owner Chose Aquinnah
I inherited the house from my parents in 1994- they bought in in 1963. We renovated and expanded it into a year round home because it was in one of the most magnificent locations I had seen. My husband and I already owned a home on Martha's Vineyard so we decided to maintain this house as a vacation rental.
The Unique Benefits at this Home
Our house is a year round home, but it has been designed to take advantage of the view from every location. The view looks out toward the ocean, and down toward our pond. The birding is amazing as the islands are on a migration path and our own pond attracts many species of birds. Aquinnah is so natural that birds have wild vineyards and every other kind of berry to feast upon. We try to keep binoculars and birding books out at the house.
The pond at the bottom of our lawn is a natural pond on our property. Our house is on three acres and it is at the end of the road so there is privacy.
Turtles, otter, ducks, deer and osprey all visit and live near the pond.
Our town beach on the ocean is just about an eight minute walk from the house and once there you can walk for miles - under the Gay Head Cliffs and past the dunes. It truly is one of the best beaches
Owner's Map of Aquinnah
My husband and I both work on the island. I am an art teacher with the public schools and my husband owns a window and door business in Chlmark. We raised our son and daughter on Martha's Vineyard. We live about 8 miles from the house.
