What a great place

Stayed for a winter 3 day weekend, the house was gorgeous, hot tub and sauna made the trip. The owner was extremely helpful, each fireplace was stocked with a big stack of dry wood, kitchen set up perfectly for cooking. Could not have asked for a better experience, and would definitely go again.

The lake was really clear and pretty quiet. The dock and swimming area were great! The kayaks and paddleboat were used every day. The house was very clean but, we would not use the basement for a bedroom. The deck and hot tub were really nice! A definate plus! Plenty of room for the eight of us! Both Wolfboro and Weirs Beach were less than 30 easy drive minutes away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week on Sunset Lake. The house fit all of us (2 grandparents, 2 daughters and husbands and 4 grandchildren ages 9 to 1) perfectly. The Lake with dock and swimming area cordoned off with large rocks was a perfect fit for all ages. The water is beautifully clear and just the right temperature. Kayaks and paddleboat were a wonderful addition. The LOONS topped off a perfect week. Thank you!

We cannot say enough great things about this house! The house is spacious, with plenty of room for all aged family members. The lake is wonderful! We had alot of fun in the kayaks and paddle boat. We also hiked nearby and enjoyed a couple of attractions in the area. We were also privy to watch a pair of loons introduce it's new baby to the lake! Dick and Maureen certainly provide a nice, clean, and friendly home to rent! We would definatley recommend this property for your vacation!

Magical Week

We stayed July 9- 13th 2011 and the place was so nice we actually ended up getting married in a small, intimate wedding ceremony overlooking the lake. The property needed a little bit of yard work but it would have been fine if we weren't looking to take our wedding photos there. The owners were great!!! The house was clean, very well located and we very much enjoyed the hot tub, grill and boats. The lake is pristine and the swimming area was perfect for all ages- even small ones. Our dog was also in heaven since we have a lab who lives to swim. The sound of the loons was exquisite and we even saw a bald eagle fly past the house once. Overall lovely experience that we will remember fondly every anniversary! In fact- we hope to return for anniversaries in the future :)

Three Generation Retreat

Guest: Mike (Bedford, New Hampshire)
Date of Stay: 07/02/11 Review Submitted: 07/25/11

This quiet, private lake was exactly what our family (two parents, two daughters w/husbands, and two grandsons) wanted. We wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of Lake Winnipesaukee, and avoid the large numbers of high speed power boats on the big lake. Sunset Lake provided exactly what we wanted-quiet, clean, good swimming, good fishing and wonderful views. All of this within just a few minutes of convenient grocery shopping and restaurants, plus only 20 minutes away from Weirs Beach, which provided great fun for the 10 yr old and 6 yr old grandsons. The home was well equipped, and spacious enough for all of us to enjoy privacy for down time when needed. The regulation size pool table in the lower level was a special treat for our grandsons, who learned a little about billiards from Grandpa. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed to prepare great meals. The home was clean and very well equipped, which added to our enjoyment. Of special note was a large, clean hot tub located on the rear deck, which provided wonderful relaxation after a day of activities. The description and photos were accurate, and reflected the property well. Just be cautioned to get specific driving directions from Dick Flaherty, as the home is tricky to locate (which adds to its charm and privacy.) I have already recommended this property to several friends and other family members.

Wonderful family vacation home

Guest: YA and family (Hanover, NH)

Our family of four and puppy had a lovely vacation in this wonderful home. We swam, kayaked, paddle boated, hot tubbed, fished, grilled, and cooked in the well-equipped kitchen. We were delighted to follow a loon while in the kayaks and loved exploring this peaceful lake. Another family of four stayed with us for a couple of days, and there was plenty of room. The kids enjoyed sleeping in the bunk beds in the basement. We hope to return.

Super home on the sunset lake

Our family had the best time at this beautiful lake front home. The home was roomy and very clean. I especially liked the well equipped kitchen. The description and photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities . Dick and Maureen were very helpful in answering our questions and concerns. The lake was quiet (no big power boats) and very peaceful. The hot tub was a big hit with everyone. There was plenty of space, tables and seating on the deck area. We can't wait to come back again next year. I would definitely recommend this vacation home.

Magical Lakehouse

Guest: Cathryn (NYC)
Date of Stay: 08/07/10 Review Submitted: 08/14/10

This is a perfect retreat for lake-loving foodies. An amazing open kitchen and stunning grill made our cooking experiences memorable (as did eating blueberries from the bushes on the lake). Mornings began with chipmunks and birds at all the feeders, and relaxing days were spent on the dock, reading and swimming. The boats were awesome and our sunset swims followed by the luxurious hot tub will be deeply missed. We love Sunset Lake, which was quiet due to lack of big speed boats (yeah!) The house and lake are perfect for family vacations, and Dick was great to work with. Fiddlehead Farms in Alton Bay had amazing produce and fresh seafood. Even the tap water (from the well) was incredible! Overall, this was one of our most enjoyable and memorable family holidays -- we will be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at this beautiful, private, dog-friendly lakefront property with its own beach, dock, hot tub, and spectacular view of Sunset Lake. The listing photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and amenities, and the owners were helpful in providing additional information and answering questions. It was very clean and well-maintained. The floorplan made it easy to move about, relax, access the deck, and enjoy the surroundings. Nearby Alton & Alton Bay are charming communities with excellent restaurants and attractions.

Great Family Vacation

Guest: Holly (Cumberland, RI)
Date of Stay: 06/26/10 Review Submitted: 08/02/10

This was the perfect vacation spot for our family. The three bedrooms and finished basement provided us with plenty of room and we never felt cramped. The house was very clean and the pictures were nearly exact. Great big screen TV in the family room though we never used it. Spent most of our time at the lake. 5 or 6 kayaks and a 4 person paddle boat kept our entire crew active. Ages ranged from 3 to 60 and everyone had something fun to do. Did a lot of fishing from the large dock and from the kayaks and paddle boat. Caught a lot of small fish, threw everything back. Found a bait store across the street from the chinese restaurant in Alton Bay, which also had very good food! Local supermarket is about 20 minutes away. We drove about 30 minutes up the coast of Lake Winnipesaukee one day to take the kids to a movie. Be prepared for no cell service!!! We had a mix of Verizon, AT&T and T-mobile...only Verizon was able to get intermittent service on the dock. High speed internet was available and was a life saver! We would definitely go here again! The lake is small compared to Winnipesaukee but it is still large. Very quite. Only saw one or two boats pulling people on tubes. The hot tub got a lot of use too. We stayed for a week so had to add chemicals which the owner explained and was very simple. Only complaints were that the driveway was a little hard to find at first because it was severely overgrown. We grabbed a weed whacker and cleaned it up a bit so others in our party could find it easier. We also had to replace a few light bulbs, especially the ones for the path to the dock but we found some spares to use. Otherwise everything was great. All we had to do was bring food and sheets. Oh, and if you are picky, bring your own pillows.

Outstanding family weekend!

We spent a wonderful Memorial Day weekend at this beautiful lake house! Everything was clean and comfortable and the owners made sure that everything was ready for our arrival, even preheating the outdoor hot tub for us! Rooms are sunny with beautiful views. We enjoyed fishing right from the dock on the property, and the kids caught bass and trout. There are many kayaks available for use and a nice paddleboat. Calm, beautiful and quiet lake with very few motorboats. We would have loved to use the outdoor wood sauna and wood fireplace in the master bedroom but weather was too warm - next time! My 9 year old loved the go carts and arcades/mini golf in town about 15 minutes away. There was plenty of room for us and beds were comfortable. There are bunkbeds in basement which may be OK for teens - slight damp smell in basement. Dog friendly property. Cody the Cockapoo had a blast!
