Enjoy Blissfully Days and Nights at Folly House
Watch for sail boats, osprey, eagles, pheasants, shore birds, and changes in the tide as you lounge on the spacious decks that ring this seaside house overlooking fabled Oak Island. At night the Milky Way and constellations seem close enough to touch in the quiet stillness of this country retreat. The shore offers wading and the exploration of tide pools and marsh grasses; or paddle the canoe in the sheltered cove. Toast marshmallows and tell stories around the fire ring, and enjoy the delights of the outdoors with all the comforts of home right at hand.
This recently renovated home offers an open first floor with living, dining, and kitchen areas. Two sets of French doors and windows all around bring light and the sense of being at one with the outside environment. A half bath and a laundry room complete the downstairs. Upstairs four bedrooms and a full bath offer privacy and quiet rest. Two of the bedrooms have queen sized beds, another has a day bed that can make up into two single beds or a queen bed, and the fourth bedroom has a set of bunk beds. Two cribs are also available.
Folly is designed and equipped for the comfort and ease of family and friends. The kitchen is fully equipped for even an adventurous cook. Basic staples are provided.
Board games and puzzles, fiction and non fiction adult and children's books and reference books on Nova Scotia flora and fauna stock the shelves, a telescope and astronomy reference materials, and outdoor game equipment await your use. Four bicycles are tucked in the shed at the back of the property and the Chester Connection Rails to Trails is just a short walk from the house. Cable TV, VCR and DVD players are available. Local phone calls are included.
The picnic and patio tables, Adirondack and director's chairs on the deck invite al fresco dining, star gazing, and good conversation. You have your choice of a gas grill or a charcoal Weber grill on which to prepare your meals. Local grocery stores, an ice cream shop, and a fresh fish store are minutes away. Should you wish to dine out, the Oak Island Inn and Spa is within walking distance, and other highly rated restaurants are close by in Chester Basin, Chester, Mahone Bay, and Lunenburg.
Located midway between postcard pretty Chester and the artisans' village of Mahone Bay, Folly is only 20 minutes from Lunenburg, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and less than an hour drive from fabulous Bayswater, Risser's, Hirtle's, Crescent, and Cherry Hill Provincial Park Beaches. Golf is available in Chester and Bridgewater. The Chester Playhouse has professional theatre, and old fashioned band concerts are offered in Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg during the summer months. Historic Ross Farm is a short drive away and welcomes you to life on an 1820's farm. In less than an hour you can be at the airport or in Halifax taking in the Busker's Festival, Neptune Theatre, or the excitement of the city.
Folly is the perfect place for you and yours to savor the delights of a Nova Scotia vacation. Its amenities provide you with the comforts you need to feel at ease and its location surrounds you with beauty and a central point from which to take in the best the South Shore has to offer.

We rented Folly House last week (Aug. 2010) and just loved it! We were there with family members (total of 11) and found it to be spacious, very well equipped and it "felt like home" while we were in Nova Scotia. The owner who we actually met was delightful, helpful and very accommodating! We would definitely recommend this as a vacation home. We hope to return some day for sure!

Folly House was everything it said in it's description. It was well equiped with everything you needed. Well maintained and clean. A beautiful view and a private setting. A short drive to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenburg and Halifax less than an hour away. We went to the South Shore for a family wedding and Folly House was a great home base for our party of 11. Lots to see and do. Great restaurants and shopping. Our host was very accomodating and helpful in planning our trip she made us feel like good friends. I would recommend this property.

This was a perfect location for what we wanted to do while vacationing in Nova Scotia. It is a very centralized location and the home was just what we wanted and needed. The deck is spacious and a great place to view nature. The owner goes out of her way to make your stay memorable -- she knows Nova Scotia very well and can give you many ideas on what to do while staying there. The home was well furnished. I would highly recommend this place for your family vacation home away from home.
Owner response:I love working with our guests to help them get the most out of their vacation to Nova Scotia and the beautiful South Shore. By the time they stay at Folly, its like having old friends in for a visit. Gretchen Alexander

What a beautiful home! It was the perfect location for our family holiday (8 + 1 dog). Within close distance to Halifax, Mahone Bay, Lunnenberg, "The Ovens" park. The home is beautifully decorated, well equiped, spacious, comfortable beding and very accommodating. Outside the grounds are spacious, yet private and have plenty of outdoor seating on a gorgeous deck overlooking the bay. We would highly recommend Folly House to anyone visiting Nova Scotia. A true delight of the senses!

We loved this house! The view is spectacular and the house has everything you could possibly need. Peggy's Cove, Halifax, Lunenburg and Kejimkujik National Park are all within driving distance. We stayed there last summer and liked it so much we're staying there again this summer.

We stayed at the house in July and loved every minute. The setting is beautiful and close to my favourite town (Mahone Bay). The house has beautiful light from all of the windows so even on the foggy days it was great to be at. Our family used the bikes and the canoe and liked to take the walk to the Oak Island Resort and Marina. We were very happy and highly recommend the home to other visitors.
