In the historic village of St. Vivien in the Dordogne area of south-west France, this beautiful, restored, two-storey stone house with tile roof and wooden shutters is approximately 300 years old. It is situated in the heart of this peaceful 200-person village, adjacent to the 17th century church. The house has both front and rear gardens, the latter being very large, with pool, grass, fruit trees, and roses. The rear of the house overlooks acres of vineyards and gorgeous countryside.
This unique and beautifully maintained house consists of three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, entry room, kitchen, terrace, bathroom with shower, plus two separate toilets. The entry room has a large stone fireplace and dining table. A wooden staircase connects the ground and first floors. The house has a new kitchen and modern appliances. Central heating makes the house very cozy in the winter months, with a good selection of books, games and puzzles for those indoor days.
All linens and bedding are provided.
The house is decorated by the owners, an artist/designer team, using tasteful and historic colors. The furniture and fixtures are an eclectic but tasteful mix of antique and modern. There are original art works in every room, as well as hardwood floors.
Each of the bedrooms has a double bed. The largest of the bedrooms (25 by 20 feet) also contains a single bed and has its own toilet adjoined. With three bedrooms, the house can comfortably accommodate seven people.
The kitchen opens out onto a covered terrace and the peace of the lovely back garden, where most people spend the warm summer days.
A fifteen minute drive to the wonderful market town of Ste. Foy-la-Grande, and within easy reach of Bordeaux, Bergerac, Perigueux and Sarlat, the house is a great place to return to for peace and relaxation. The rail station of Velines (on the Bordeaux line) is four km away for visits to the exciting city of Bordeaux or to pick up visitors without cars. The fantastic Lascaux caves near Sarlat are well worth a day trip.
The village has a small store and bar. Many excellent restaurants in the area. The great Bordeaux wine producers and kayaking along the Dordogne River both within half an hour's reach. The resort, Lac de Gurson, six km. away for a swim in the lake. A drive to the Atlantic beaches is about two and a half hours.

We spent (just over) a week at this comfortable home, and enjoyed every minute! We spent just about every waking moment on the patio or in the garden. The living spaces in the house are very spacious and comfortable for when the weather turns. The kitchen is very functional to prepare the wonderful food we purchased at the local markets. Very centrally located in the south-western Dordogne - it's a short drive to many interesting sites and towns - and a short and joyful bicycle ride to nearby towns, restaurants and vineyards. Many people we encountered knew the home's owners, and everyone - without exception - was extremely friendly, and happy to share information about their town, winery, farm, etc. Memorable to me is the invitation to observe early morning harvesting at a local vineyard - and being invited to ride on the harvester - it was really fascinating to see how the machine works! The house surpassed our expectations set by the descriptions and conversations with the owner. It is very well maintained and cared for - and the owners made sure that our stay went without a hitch! They also provided us with a very useful resource of local shops, restaurants and towns worth visiting. And very very responsive to our numerous questions and emails. I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing week or two in a beautiful setting - whether you want to sit back and read a book, or explore region or a combination of the two - this house is the perfect place to call home.

The house was spacious and surprisingly cool dispite the over 30C temperatures. Our teenage son and daughter enjoyed the privacy of their own rooms, as well, the master bedroom was huge with the view of the surrounding vineyard. The patio conveniently located off the kitchen was perfect to have a relaxing meal to start the day and to end a busy day of sight-seeing. With no TV, our family had many memorable evenings talking and playing cards until dark. After finishing the books we brought, the house had a wonderful selection of books to read. We had a very delicious dinner at the Le Peche Mignon Restaurant and it's only 4 km away. Overall, staying in St. Vivien and visiting the sights around the Dordogne region was the highlight of our vacation.

What a lovely, quiet place to stay! Six of us spent a week there and the home is a wonderful jumping off point to Bordeaux, St. Emilion, Bergerac, and Sur Lot. We had many evenings relaxing in the livingroom and cooking in the kitchen. I would go back in a heartbeat.

My wife and I and some friends stayed in this handsome spacious house in a delightful village in a beautful area of France for ten days in June 2007. The rooms are large and fully furnished, and the bedrooms are comfortable and attractively decorated -- in particular, the master bedroom which we loved. The kitchen has everything you need, and we especially enjoyed spending our evenings drinking wine and eating leisurely dinners on the terrace.
