Location: Orvieto, Umbria, Italy, Europe

Accommodations:  Apartment, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)

'Casa di Felicita' is located on a small piazza, Piazza Sant’ Angelo, off the Corso Cavour in the center of the mediaeval town of Orvieto. The spectacular Duomo di Orvieto, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture with its Chapel of San Brizio frescoed by Fra Angelico and Luca Signorelli, is a short walk away. A great gelateria is also located on the Piazza del Duomo!

The apartment is accessed via one flight of stairs and occupies the first floor of a two-apartment, 300 year old building. There is a small terrazzo for morning coffee just outside the front door. Recently restored, the apartment has three arches, terracotta tiled floors throughout, and the bedrooms are painted with rich and warm colors. The windows are high as are the ceilings. The apartment is very light. The living room is large and is contiguous with the generous dining alcove. The kitchen is fully equipped and has stools for conversation while cooking. The master bedroom has a full bathroom ensuite and twin beds or a queen-size bed as desired, the second bedroom has a full bathroom (across the hall) and a queen-size bed, the third bedroom (down two steps) has a trundle bed for one adult or two children. A washer and dryer are located in the large storage closet at the end of the hall to the master bedroom. A drying rack is also available.

Parking is on the street in one of the many toll or free parking areas. Cars can be rented locally or at the nearby Perugia Airport for extended stays or day trips.

The town has many trattorias, ristorantes, coffee bars, enotecas, markets, shops and a champagne bar all within walking distance. Some of the trattorias and ristorantes will truly delight your palate, but all are good. One of the best bakeries is very close to the apartment and there is a caffé in the Piazza Sant’ Angelo. And there’s a farmers' market every Thursday and Saturday. Orvieto has many music, dance, and medieval folklore festivals and even a Palio. The Teatro Comunale Mancinelli on Corso Cavour has regular concerts and other cultural events. Concerts in the Duomo are sublime. There is a jazz festival in December and January. It just goes on.

More about Orvieto:
Orvieto, a medieval walled city with Romanesque and Gothic (and occasional Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical) buildings, is situated on the summit of a volcanic butte with dramatic sheer walls. There are panoramic views of the beautiful surrounding countryside from all parts of the city. Historically, Orvieto was a major center of the Etruscan civilization. There are Etruscan historical sites which can be visited. Beneath the hilltop city, there is an underground city of passages and streets created by the first Etruscans (for cisterns) and expanded in the Middle Ages (for cellars and working spaces). At the bottom of the butte surrounded by orchards and a winery, the Etruscan necropolis of Crocefisso di Tufo counts a hundred or so chamber tombs along a rectangular street grid. There are two fine archeological museums containing extensive collections of Etruscan and Greek objects.

Orvieto is well-situated for exploring the many treasures of Umbria, Tuscany, and Lazio. All can be accessed by car and some by train. Daytrips will allow you to relish the extraordinary food, beauty, art, and architecture of the areas. • You won't regret your decision to book this comfortable apartment. We stayed in late September (2 middle aged couples), and loved coming home to our own place after a day of touring around. We stocked up on some wonderful wines and food purchased in town. There are are quite a few excellent restaurants--even the pizza place we found was wonderful! Orvieto is a charming, ancient and friendly town. The concierge, Susan Evans, arranged a fabulous tour and wine tasting at a family-owned winery for us -- a fond memory. Thank you Cynthia!

    • If you are considering a B&B or a longer stay in Orvieto, you should look into this wonderful apartment on the Corso in Orvieto. We looked at other B&Bs and apartments but none compared to this spacious, sunny 3 bedroom, 2 bath place. Two of the bedrooms are very large as are the bathrooms, the kitchen and living area. It has high ceilings with lots of windows. It is in the heart of Orvieto where you could sit and look out the large windows on the bustling street below. We felt that we were experiencing the real feel of Italy. We found tucked away bakeries and pasta shops and cozy restaurants close by. We can not say enough about the hospitality of the owner and property manager who speak English and directed us to hidden wineries and places to go. It was such a great place we plan on returning. I agree with the previous reviewer...the photos do not do it justice.

    • We are a family of four (including a 14 year old and 10 year old) who stayed in this wonderful apartment for 10 days over Christmas 2007. The apartment was modernized, clean, spacious, nicely decorated, and well located within Orvieto. The pictures do not do it justice! It was an easy walk from where the funicular stops. It was a convenient place to take day train trips within Umbria. It was comforting to know there was a property manager available if needed. I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wants to experience "living like a local" in a nice apartment in Orvieto instead of staying in a hotel.

    • "Your apartment is wonderful, and we really enjoyed our stay there. Thank you for all the helpful and thoughtful touches (bar soap and hair dryers, for instance) which made settling in so easy. Orvieto was delightful, and all the people on your list whose shops we frequented were patient with us. I especially enjoyed my trips to Ferrari's fruit & vegetable shop. We also took a shopping trip to Deruta based on our appreciation of your rooster pitcher! We'd be glad to recommend your apartment to others who'll be traveling to Orvieto. Good luck with your future rentals."

      Homeowner Response:
This IS a comment from a guest. Somehow in the review and acceptance process, my name and email address appeared instead of theirs.

    • We are a family of 5 from the United States that stayed here for a week in June 2007. The apartment is beautiful-even better than the photos-loved the new color scheme!Lots of space, open and airy and super clean and in a great location. Everything that we needed was there and if we had any questions Susan (contact person) was readily available and extremely nice and helpful. We truly cannot say enough nice things about both the apartment and Orvieto. No problems at all! We highly recommend it and can't wait to return!
