Owner Description
I am a writer who bought this home many years ago to use as an artist retreat for myself, my family and my friends... so much love and caring has gone into making this a special home with my friends contributing their artistic talents to the art pieces which adorn the walls.
Why the Owner Chose Nuevo Arenal
Because of its spectacular natural beauty, its near perfect climate, the privacy it offers me and my special, caring neighbors.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The natural beauty of this lovely property which both myself and my gardener have nurtured throughout the years, delights and enchants my soul. The clean, fresh air and the wild life (you will see blue morphus butterflies flitting between the trees) restore my vision and heal my heart. This property is very private and yet it such an easy walk to town and lake Arenal...I feel as though I am way out in the countryside and yet I am a ten minute walk to town. I also have wonderful helpful Costa Rican neighbors up the road which has been such a blessing to me through the years

La Casa De Mariposa was charming and a lovely way to start off our visit to Costa Rica!

The description & pictures of the house & location are accurate but they do not depict how beautiful it really is in person. We had a lot of excursions/tours planned in La Fortuna (about 45 mins away by the Arenal Volcano- amazing!) & wished that we could have spent more time enjoying the house because it truly was a special & private retreat. During the day we would sit outside & take in the tranquility of the lush greenery, beautiful flowers, view of the nearby pond & musical sounds of nature - birds, insects, monkeys, etc... which was a far cry from the hustle & bustle of NY. In the evenings we would sit out under the awning & listen to the rain falling on the rooftop. I was taken aback and felt privileged to have had a little piece of authentic Costa Rica to myself for the time being. We had lucked out because the owner, a wonderful & genuine woman, had been in town during our stay and welcomed us upon our arrival. She provided advice on where to go & what to do, information on Costa Rica in general & Nuevo Arenal, the town we were in. Nuevo Arenal was a quaint town which consists of mostly locals, a scattering of Americans who've relocated & some tourists. Lake Arenal is a few minutes from the house & is a majestic sight. Since we have been considering relocating ourselves, we were looking for an authentic, everyday feel of the real Costa Rica & this was it! We definitely plan on returning to Costa Rica & staying at La Casa De Mariposa again - Pura Vida!

A Wonder Place -- especially if you're looking for a quiet and private get-a-way. The house is very charming, clean and comfortable as well as well equipped. The property manager was most helpful is answering my questions and making me feel at home. I would definitely recommend Case de Mariposa as a great place to stay on your next trip to Costa Rica.

This is a fantastic property! I just spent a week with my wife in this hidden jewel tucked in a lush tropical rainforest. Casa de Mariposa overlooks a beautiful private lake and garden and also has a view into the jungle. We were lulled to sleep at night by the sound of nearby running water and a symphony of crickets and frogs. In the mornings we awoke to multiple bird conversations and howler monkey barbaric yawps in the distance. We were inundated by tucans and my wife took close to twenty pictures of them flitting around, to show friends and family back home. In the afternoons, we walked up the rural road to catch a glimpse of lake arenal and volcano arenal. This is the best deal in town! The property manager was accommodating and gave us great advice on some other activities in the area. The house is filled with a positive energy and is usually flooded by light on the clear days. You would be well served to spend your Costa Rica vacation at Casa de Mariposa. We will be back!

Recently my husband and I vacationed at Case de Mariposa. It was everything and more that it was advertised to be and just what we were looking for. If you are a bird watcher, this is the place for you. We found Dow, the property manager, to be both hospitable and accommodating to our every need. The home is clean, comfortable, quiet and well equipped.

What a wonderful, hidden jewel this place is! Tucked right in a beautifully rustic rainforest rural community, my wife and I were lulled to sleep every night by the sound of running water, crickets, and the mystery of the jungle. In the morning, when the birds and howler monkeys awoke us, we took walks up the dirt road to see the volcano and Lake Arenal. We felt like we had truly discovered paradise. This is definitely the best bargain in town. For what we paid, we couldn't ask for anything more. The house is beautiful and is a total sponge for positive energy. Thank you!
