The Mermaids House:
The Mermaids House is the perfect West Marin getaway. Located on the waterfront of pristine Tomales Bay, it is an ideal spot to relax and unwind. The house is literally built out over the water, so there is nothing between you and the picturesque Point Reyes National Seashore as you gaze out through the giant glass windows.
The Mermaids House offers amazing views of the abundant birdlife that inhabit Tomales Bay and it is not uncommon to spot a seal or two swimming by to say hello. The house, nautically themed, creates the illusion that you are traveling aboard a lavish ship, without the seasickness of course. The spacious interior of the house has an air of tasteful class while maintaining a cozy rustic feel.
Complete with a grassy front yard, large deck with a hot tub, and its own pier, the Mermaids House is also well equipped for outdoor living. Whether you spend your time in West Marin hiking in the park, Kayaking on the bay, or just relaxing the Mermaids House is the perfect setting to enjoy some world famous oysters, have a drink, and look out across the bay as the sun sets.
There are two suites at The Mermaids House: the Admiral’s Quarters and the Crew Quarters. The suites are separated by a 20 foot entry way and each suite has its own private deck and private hot tub.
Amenities: Jacuzzi/jet outdoor spa, gas log fireplace, Wi-Fi (wireless internet), phone (free long distance within the continental US), 32" Sharp flat screen satellite TV (AQ), satellite flat screen TV with built in DVD player (CQ), stereo/CD player, fully equipped kitchen, refrigerator, dishwasher (AQ only), microwave, toaster, coffee maker, barbecue, deck tables and chairs, teakwood "steamer" reclining deck chairs. *(No smoking. Sorry, no young children: due to the location of the house over the water. No pets: due to the sensitive nature of the environment.) **(Sorry, we cannot accommodate large gatherings or parties.)
Activities: Hiking, bird watching, horseback riding, hanging out on the beach, kayaking, biking, scenic driving, wine tasting, fishing, shopping, restaurants, sightseeing, whale watching, swimming, boating (rentals at dillon beach), sailing, surfing, windsurfing, tide-pooling, wildlife viewing, golfing (Bodega Bay or San Geronimo). Within one hour from: Napa, Sonoma, San Francisco, Sausalito, Dillon Beach, Bodega Bay.
Cancellation Policy: If you cancel your reservation 14 days prior to your stay, your entire payment will be refunded. If you cancel your reservation less than 14 days before your stay, your payment will be refunded only if we are able to subsequently rent to someone else.

What a wonderful way to spend our 25th wedding anniversary! Great meals, horseback riding, hiking, lots of raw oysters…. And the best part – staying in the Admirals Suite at the Mermaids House. Beautifully decorated. Attention to detail. And so private and peaceful. We hope we can return to this little piece of paradise! Thank you so much!

What a lovely, relaxing weekend! We came up to celebrate Bret’s 30th and get away from the city. We lucked out with a hot sunny day on Saturday. We watched the sunset with a bottle of white and an amazing spread from the Cowgirl Creamery – heaven! I jogged up to the Marshall Store and was offered a free sample of an amazing oyster for breakfast – yum! We went back later for more. This place is so cozy and inviting – we will be back! Thanks so much.

Dear Karen and Fred – After 5 days of enjoying the magnificent views of the bay, the quietness of the surroundings, the comfort of the house, relaxation in the hot tub, it is now time to pack up. We have thoroughly explored the Point Reyes area. Seen a big herd of tule elk from close distance, many deer, seals (even from the deck!) birds of many feathers (including a king fisher). But it is obvious that this area needs more time to really explore: what a beauty and splendor! Thanks for sharing this with us. P.S. I forgot to mention the beautiful garden!!

What an incredible find! Thank you so much for sharing your Mermaid House – Admiral Quarters with us. It is truly unique and we were constantly discovering nautical decorative items. The location is perfect. It was a great opportunity to “unplug.” We will be back!
