The Feathered Nest is a tranquil hideaway on Peaks Island, Maine, with a view of Diamond Passage. It's just an 8-minute walk from the Casco Bay ferry to/from Portland, and a hop, skip and a jump to Centennial Beach. Peaks Island offers boating, walking, bicycling, picnicking, birdwatching, plus several nice restaurants. There are several nice sandy beaches. Portland is convenient for entertainment and shopping.
Wraparound porch! If you're like us, you'll spend most of your waking hours on the spacious front deck - at the picnic table or in the generous hot tub - watching the birds (birders, ask for a list), the deer, and the boats go by. The living room has windows galore. Even when you're indoors you'll feel as if you're outdoors. If it gets chilly there's a wood stove to keep you cozy (oil heat, too).
The dining room has sliders to the deck - so you won't miss any of the action. The recently renovated kitchen is well-equipped, including a convection oven (we love to cook!) and a dishwasher (who wants to wash dishes on vacation?!) ...plus, there's a Weber grill on the porch. Upstairs, the master bedroom is spacious with great windows and views. It has a queen size bed.
The guest bedroom has a double bed. Both beds have high quality mattresses so you can count on waking up refreshed. Plus, for overflow guests, there's an inflatable queen-size bed and the sofa is mattress quality. The sumptuous upstairs bathroom has a double shower to die for! It's made of beautiful hand-painted Talavera tile from Mexico. And, for those chilly mornings, the tiled floor has built-in heat! A half bath is conveniently located on the main floor, and a washer and dryer in the cellar. |
