Accommodations:  Townhome, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Den, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-10)

Keywords:  Townhome

No matter the season, this quiet, secluded location with trees, mountain views, and the sound of Gore Creek, located only 20 feet off the back deck, will fit the bill for your next vacation. You can ski any of ten Colorado resorts (Vail, Beaver Creek, Copper, Breckenridge, Keystone, Steamboat Springs, Aspen's three mountains, and Ski Cooper) and still drive home for the night to a cozy fire and comfortable king-size beds.

This is a property with only 38 townhomes, many of which are lived in by permanent residents. The covered bus stop for the free Town of Vail Shuttle is only a two-minute level walk from the front door. A three-minute ride gets you to the Cascade ski lift; ride a little longer and get off at Lionshead or the Vail Transportation Center and Vail Village itself, offering numerous quality restaurants, night spots, and incomparable shopping.

If you choose, however, to stay in, you will also be content. This newly remodeled unit boasts a kitchen with granite counter tops, rustic cherry cabinetry, and new appliances. It is furnished down to the wine glasses! The glass-topped dining room table seats six, but there is also a second table in the sunken den which seats four. Turn the gas fireplace on to take the chill off of an early morning or to quickly warm up the home and mood after a day of outside activity. Two large bedrooms upstairs boast comfortable king-size beds and flat-screen TVs and one bedroom has a queen-size bed with TV/VCR/DVD player. The loft is the perfect place for children to sleep; as well, there is a futon which folds out to a queen-size bed in the large front bedroom.

In the winter, walk or take the free shuttle to the Safeway or City Market; other seasons, you may choose to bicycle. We are within a couple of minutes from the Vail Recreation Trail, a fun path where walkers, runners, and bikers can enjoy a jaunt into Vail along beautiful Gore Creek or perhaps a ride all the way to Avon or Breckenridge. The summer outdoor pool and year-round enclosed hottub are a one minute walk across the parking lot from the front door.

Rates are lower for this unit due to owner management. Owner management is visible throughout the unit in a friendly, cozy environment, rather than a sterile cut-out cookie. Art work, mirrors, luxurious bathrooms with intricate tile work all point to ownership who also enjoy their visits here!

A Great Vail Value; Cozy Retreat on Gore Creek Jan/Feb Reduced

Year Purchased: 1990

Why the Owner Chose Ptarmigan Townhomes

I have loved the Rockies since I went to school in Colorado. A roommate's parents lived there so I skied Vail and other ski areas as a cadet. I have skied all over the country and in Europe and have found Vail to be, in my opinion, the finest ski resort . Signe and I loved the charm of the village and surrounding area when we visited Vail together. Finally, we thought it would be a place where our children would always look forward to vacationing with us, no matter the season of the year. It has been true.

The Unique Benefits at this Townhome

Our townhome's position on Gore Creek is one of the most unique benefits of this property. The back of this unit, upstairs and down, has stunning views of the creek. The view and sound of the creek change with every season. The gas fireplace makes having a fire at any time, effortless, safe and pleasurable. The unit is comfortable and appointed very well, requiring little more than your own foodstuffs. Finally, location is an asset. Vail's free shuttle stops 125 level steps from our front door. It is a three-minute ride to the closest ski lift and a 10 minute walk, if you choose, to the Safeway and City Market grocery stores, among other convenience-type stores (hardware, gas, fast-food, restaurants, wine/liquor, etc.).

A
Free Vail Bus

125 level paces from our unit's front door.

B
Donovan's Pavilion

Event center with parking, playground, soccer field, next to Gore Creek and the Gore Creek Rec Path, a 10 minute walk from our unit.

C
Gore Creek Rec Path

An asphalt path, even plowed in winter, Upstream are Donovan's Pavilion, the Cascade Lift, Lionshead and Vail Villages with their many ski lifts. This path goes over Vail Pass to Copper Mountain and continues to Frisco. It continues to both Breckenridge and Dillon.

D
Cascade Ski Lift

Vail's western-most lift is a 2-3 minute ride on Vail's free bus. From the bus it is a two minute walk to the ticket booth, probably the shortest in Vail. We almost always start a Vail ski day here.

E
Lionshead Village, Parking Structure, Gondola and Lift

Another three minutes on the free bus takes you to Lionshead. The large white area is the public parking structure which is free in spring, summer and fall. It is about a five minute walk to the gondola/lift.

F
Vail Village Public Parking Structure Transportation Center

Most of Vail's free and fee busses anchor out of the transportation center. Again, the parking structure is free in spring, summer and fall. It is about a 10 minute walk to the closest lift.

G
Groceries, Shopping, Rentals, Restaurants

A 10 minute walk in summer or winter, this area has just about all of the essentials. Safeway and City Market groceries, liquor stores, Sports Authority for the most economical ski rentals in the area, Ace Hardware and too many eateries to mention.

Owner's Map of Ptarmigan Townhomes

Excellent and Affordable

We went as a group of 8 international students and when we arrived, we were pleased to find the property cleaned and ready. The amenities are provided for our usage and we didn't run out of anything. Unfortunately for us, we arrived during a time period where the hot tub was under maintenance. However, the owners were prompt in responding and offered us some incentives that replaced the unavailable hot tub. It was an extremely reasonable offer and we appreciated how professional the owners were in handling the situation. The owners are also there for us despite living out-of-state. This is commendable and should be noted. Even though it was not the biggest property, it certainly provided enough room for all of us.

We have stayed in this condo a couple of times. It is comfortable, clean, and the beds are nice. It is a quick jaunt to the slopes and the owners are wonderfully helpful. We will be glad to use it again.

The townhome was exactly as the pictures showed it It was very comfortable and had all the basic amenities that you find in a hotel. Perfect location for catching the shuttle for around the Vail area. The creek babbling behind the residence is very relaxing. We had 7 people stay and there was plenty of room. Nice kitchen, 2 big bedrooms. I would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful home away from home

We loved staying in this town home! With 3 adults and two kids, we still had plenty of room (and plenty of t.v.'s)! The location was very convenient as it was right on the free shuttle route and the pool was immaculate. My favorite part of the town home though was the master bedroom by the river. We slept with our sliding door open every night and the sound of the river lulled us right to sleep. A perfect home for any family on a Vail vacation!

Truly enjoyed our stay in Vail, the condo was great, very clean and comfortable would definitely recommend to friends. The creek right outside the door was awesome. We had a wedding at Donovan's pavilion which was right down the street perfect location,( minutes to the ski lifts ) Used the local bus system to get around it worked out great. Thanks to the Donaldson's, they were very professional, they made the reservation process very easy. Thanks again.

Good Value Family Accomodation

Guest: R&L (N.Ireland)
Date of Stay: 07/14/10 Review Submitted: 08/24/10

We really enjoyed our week in Vail this summer. It was clean, and there was plenty of space for my 2 teenage kids. We used the swimming pool and hot-tub most days, and the house is really convenient to a large Safeway store and the interstate. The parking in the town centre is free during the summer, so it's only a couple of minutes drive to the local restaurants (try the Tap House on Bridge St for their specials Mon-Thur). However, we tended to bring food in and use the Gas BBQ that is provided. We found the fridge and cupboards stocked with all sorts of everything which was a very welcome surprise. The house may be a little out of the way for some folks, but it wasn't an issue for us (it's also right beside the local (free) bus service), and you'll be hard pressed to find better value anywhere else in Vail. Recommended.

Amazing Place

Guest: teerae (Denver, CO)
Date of Stay: 06/17/10 Review Submitted: 06/23/10

This was a very charming home. It was very easy to find and located so that getting around town was very easy. The owners were very helpful and provided plenty of information. The place was clean and well-maintained. It was very obvious the owners took care with the personal touches and decorations. The creek just outside was amazing and the creekside bedroom had its own balcony and the creek provided a very sound and soothing sleeping atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again.

We enjoyed your cozy townhome, especially the fireplace and the peaceful scene from the living room - ducks and all. We have never stayed anywhere that was so well equipped with towels and supplies that we usually have to buy. Thanks for a wonderful vacation in every way.
