MEMORIAL DAY SPECIAL - Rate reduction for the week of May 26, 2013. Was $2,110. Now $1,330.
Best of both worlds – you’ll appreciate the panoramic marsh/sound views and the three-minute walk (about 200 yards) to the uncrowded beach! Salty Dog graces a unique location, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamlico Sound on a very narrow part of Hatteras Island -- water views from every room!
Colorfully-decorated beach house was recently updated with bamboo and tile flooring and carpet. Spacious lot provides direct sound-side access to a very popular windsurfing and kayaking area. Neighborhood ocean access is just across the road, and the Frisco fishing pier is just a short stroll away.
After a day of activity, unwind at the built-in pool while your dinner cooks over the poolside grill or in the well-equipped kitchen. Then spread out in the spacious great room for adult conversation and music while the kids enjoy foosball, Playstation 2, satellite TV or a movie in the game room downstairs.
When darkness falls, enjoy the splendor of a starry night from the hot tub or on one of the decks equipped with comfortable Adirondack chairs. Then gather in the great room for a family movie on the 50-inch plasma HDTV and DVD home theater system before retreating to one of the seven comfortable bedrooms (including two master suites with oceanview decks and two queen bedrooms with access to sound-side deck and hot tub).
Bring your own PC and enjoy wireless broadband Internet access.
Pets welcome, up to two dogs only please (no cats) at no additional charge. Curbside recycling provided seasonally.
Salty Dog has everything you need to be the headquarters for your Hatteras Island vacation!

We got home late Sunday night after a wonderful trip to the Outer Banks. Everything was terrific--the surf, the sand and the seafood. We visited the Wright Museum and Pea Island on the way down to the Salty Dog Sunday and then had dinner at the Sandbar Bar and Grill. (The pizza take out has now become a game room). We took the ferry to Ocracoke Tuesday for a fabulous full day at the beach (we took a picnic in coolers) then showered and cleaned up there enough to go to Howard's Pub for dinner. We sat on the screened in porch and then we had reservations for the ghost tour that left from the Village Craftsmen that evening. We did it all! It was a great trip over and back and we even saw a shooting star on our return ferry ride. Most of the time we would play, bob and boogie board in the surf and collect shells, swim laps before dinner and we all took a night fixing a meal. We ate fish from the shop attached to Shoals restaurant near the grocery store and got wonderful seafood--tilefish, black drum, crabcakes, clam chowder and a favorite--cobia? We played catch phrase and worked on the big flower puzzle in the evenings and Wednesday night we drove up to Manteo to see the Lost Colony. That is a beautiful little town. I can almost picture Andy Griffith stepping out on the way to pick up Opie. The house worked out great. The views from the deck of the sound are fabulous and the hot tub is in a perfect spot. It is a quick walk to the beach, so it seems to be ideal for both beach and sound without having to choose between the two. The pool is just icing on the cake. We enjoyed your well-equipped kitchen as we did a lot of cooking at the house, even made homemade ice cream one evening, complete with my homemade hot fudge sauce. We got a kick out of seeing the crab come out at night down at the beach. There were 9 of us--my husband and I, older daughter and husband, his parents from Kentucky, my sister and husband from Illinois and our younger college age daughter. We all had a great time!! Even finished it off with a trip to the seafood take out for a picnic outside the restaurant at the Sugar Creek and then homemade custard in Kill Devil Hills (Yum). Thanks for all your help, it all went smoothly and was a wonderful trip.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 6/6

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: Richard and Aleece live near Raleigh, North Carolina with our three kids and two dogs. We had always dreamed of owning a beach house and finally 'took the plunge' in 2005.
Why the Owner Chose Frisco:
The Outer Banks in general, and Hatteras Island in particular, are so much more laid back than many other beach destinations. Most of Hatteras Island is national seashore, so there's lots of room for people to spread out. The beaches are world-class; in fact, the beach at Ocracoke was rated the top beach in the U.S. in 2007! And we love visiting the historical lighthouses that punctuate the coast -- Bodie Island, Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke are all close by.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love our location because our house has direct access to the Pamlico Sound and yet we are just across the road from the ocean. Because we are sandwiched between two huge bodies of water, it gets so dark at night that the sky is filled with stars -- we can often see the Milky Way! Two of the main villages on the island, Buxton and Hatteras, are within a 5-10 minute drive, so we're close to shops and restaurants (though these are on a smaller scale than in more touristy destinations). We are also within 10 minutes drive of the ferry to Ocracoke Island and the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, two of the area's top visitor attractions.
