Traditionally built with thick stone walls, the one storey, L-shaped cottage is surrounded by open countryside and overlooks the lovely Dunmanus Bay in the very Southwest of Ireland. The cottage is off the coast road up a short leafy lane. It has a large sitting room with a traditional stove fire, two double and two single rooms (three with basins), good-sized kitchen/dining room, bathroom, and shower room (each with a loo). The washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, heating, TV, mattresses, linen, cutlery, crockery, and other equipment are all good quality. Central heating.
Rooms look out over the cottage garden, lawn and fuchsia hedge to the sea. Across the bay you see layers of hills on more northerly peninsulas, right up towards Kerry. Thanks to the Gulf Stream, its mild here: palm trees and lilies flourish in the garden.
Apart from the occasional tractor, almost no traffic uses this cul de sac. Walk up the hill for five minutes to reach open moorland, walk down for ten minutes to reach the local cove. At low tide, the series of little strands, usually deserted, are ideal for making driftwood bonfires or watching swans, cormorants, and fish. High tide is best for a swim. Beautiful sandy beaches. |
