Winter is here, but it is always summer on Anna Maria Island! There are still some weeks available! Anna Maria Island has one of the most pristine, un-crowded beaches you will ever visit. Enjoy a champagne breakfast at Waterfront Restaurant, Duffy's burgers for lunch, or cocktails at sunset! In addition, there are many other fabulous things to do here - Busch Gardens, Universal Studios and Disney are all within a two-hour drive. World-class restaurants and shopping in Sarasota & St. Armand’s circle are just a short drive south, down to Longboat Key and Lido Key. If you are outdoorsy, the swimming, biking, kayaking and fishing are unbeatable year-round!
Dolphin Cottage, our "little house" on Anna Maria Island, is a cozy, charming old-Florida home with 3 bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms - perfect for a couple or family. It is very close to the beach, with only two other houses between it and our beautiful, un-crowded beach on the Gulf of Mexico. Anna Maria is less than an hour away from 3 major airports: Tampa (TPA), Sarasota (SRQ) and St. Petersburg-Clearwater (PIE). Just a short trip across the Intracoastal Waterway, AMI is easy to get to, and difficult to leave!
The interior of the cottage is pleasantly rustic with knotty cypress paneling on the walls and ceilings. It has a cute, galley-like kitchen where everything is within reach. There is also a gas grill outdoors. A central living & dining room makes up most of the house, with a dining table, sofas & recliners, TV and stereo with CD. High-speed wireless internet is also available. There are baskets of games, books and magazines in the living room and bedrooms. There are three bedrooms: one has a queen bed, and the other two each have a twin bed & a full bed. The bathroom recently underwent a well-deserved makeover and now has new ceramic tile on the walls and floor. The half-bath consists of a toilet and shower stall in the garage. There is an outdoor shower also - great for rinsing off the sand and salt!
The beach is a very short walk away. We have many beach chairs, umbrellas & toys. Bicycles are available and you can easily bicycle to the grocery store, other shopping and many great restaurants. There is also a free trolley that runs from north Anna Maria to south Longboat Key (the next island south) and a trolley stop just a short stroll from the cottage.
Dolphin Cottage is pet-friendly. There is a large back yard (no fence.) Dogs are not allowed on the beach, but they can swim at the boat ramp or at the Palma Sola causeway, just a short drive away.

Why the Owner Chose Holmes Beach
Our maternal grandmother bought this house and its neighbor in the early 1960’s and both houses have remained in our family ever since. Many, many happy events – parties, reunions, weddings, honeymoons and celebrations – have occurred here over the years. We enjoy sharing our little piece of paradise with those who appreciate Anna Maria Island for its slow pace, laid-back ambience and quirky charm. Very little has changed in our neighborhood over the last 50 years and best of all, the beach, the Gulf and those unforgettable sunsets are only a short stroll away!

We are Carol & Denise, sisters who love all things Florida, especially our little house on Anna Maria Island. Though we both have real jobs, we would much prefer to be full-time beach bums and spend as much time near or in the water as we possibly can. There is no better place to enjoy this lifestyle than on Anna Maria Island, one of the few remaining barrier islands with little development and lots of old Florida appeal!

The Dolphin Cottage we like to call a little slice of paradise! Not far from where we live.. but once you are on AMI it feels as though you are worlds away!! The cottage is lovely and cozy. We were very comfortable having our two little ones running around in the large yard. Just steps from the beach our three and one year old walked to and from the beach everyday, with big smiles on their faces! All-in-all we had such a lovely time as Denise was more than accommodating to any needs or concerns during our stay! We have already made plans to return summer of 2012 and plan to stay longer this time!!
Recommended for:Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, age 55+, girls getaway.

My family and friends stayed at this charming house that is just steps to the beach. It is a cute cottage with lots of Florida charm. The walks on the beach in the morning and watching sunsets in the evening were wonderful. We put up our umbrellas and tents on the beach in the morning and took them down in the evening and went back/forth to the house. Nobody bothered our stuff on the beach and the beach wasn't crowded at all! VERY nice area and lots of comfy furniture to relax on at night. We will be back again soon!

My family travels to AMI every summer for a week. We have stayed at various homes around the island and we all agreed that Dolphin Cottage is one of our favorites. The location is perfect and close to everything--walking distance to many shops and most especially that wonderful beach. The house is comfortable, clean, and very homey. Although the kitchen and bathrooms are pretty small, the bedrooms are a good size (great beds also) and the living room is comfy. The outdoor shower was a favorite and the garage made it easy to keep from tracking sand/water inside. The owners were great--helpful and accomodating, even making sure the a/c was on when we arrived so it was nice and cool. Dolphin cottage is a charming little happy house and we will most certainly stay there again.

Our family just returned from our stay at the Dolphin cottage. It is located in a quiet neighborhood and is a five minute walk to the beach, restaurants, shops and more. The owner was especially accomodating making sure we had enough beds and bicycles for our four teenage children. Thank you for sharing your island cottage!

Had a great time at Dolphin cottage with my family. With lots of kids it was nice to have the three bedrooms. It's just a short walk to the beach so there was no need to pack a lunch. Could be back at the cottage in minutes. The cottage has all the amenities of home with LOTS of board games for the kids. Would definitely recommend the cottage for an enjoyable quiet Florida vacation.

My family just returned from our vacation at the Dolphin Cottage. It was perfect....fit right into the "Old Florida" feeling you get from being on the island. The location was less than a block from the beach which is a big plus in my book. Very clean and had everything we needed including all sorts of stuff for the beach. Owner was very accomodating. I definately would recommend this property.
