Location: Gills Rock, Door County, Northeast, Wisconsin, USA (36 Miles from Sturgeon Bay)
Accommodations: House, 2 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6)
Keywords: House
The Anchors Aweigh Inn is located in Gills Rock. It is a modern ranch home with 2 bedrooms + den and 2 full baths. The home also has a large, open kitchen area with dining and a woodburning fireplace.
The home is situated approximately 300 feet from a small marina and boat launch. Its location on Green Bay is in one of the prime salmon and bass fishing areas of northern Door County. There is ample room on the property to park a boat and trailer or arrangements can normally be made at the marina to leave the boat in the water.
The home is also within walking distance of the Washington Island Ferry, charter fishing and sightseeing boat charters, as well as the Shoreline Restaurant and Voight's Smoked Fish House (the best in the County). The Anchors Aweigh Inn is 2 miles from Newport State Park (one of the nicest sand beaches in the County).
In the evening, walk down to the waterfront and catch a beautiful Door County sunset. The Gills Rock area is on the "quiet" end of the peninsula where there is less traffic and noise. If you are looking for nightlife, however, the other villages are only a short drive away.

Why the Owner Chose Gills Rock
We wanted to have a home close to our business, the Trollhaugen Lodge in Ephraim, for our winter getaway while our business is closed. We chose the Ellison Bay/Gills Rock area because it is on the quieter, northern end of Door County and offers outstanding fishing and boating on Green Bay and Lake Michigan and spectacular sunsets.
The Unique Benefits of this House
There are many great things about the home's location. The fantastic sunsets, the small private marina behind the home which has charter fishing, dockage and boat launch availability. It is also only a short walk to the Washington Island passenger ferry and a quick ride to the car ferry if you want to take your car over to Washington Island. There is also a small commercial fishing business that is a short walk where you can purchase fresh fish in the morning. The home is located close to the Newport Beach State Park which has the best sand beach on Lake Michigan. The home is located close to all other restaurants, shopping and attractions in Door County. Another plus is the miles of paved roads in all the wooded areas for walking and biking.

This house in virtually uninhabitable. It smells of mold and mildew -- that likely has something to do with the grass growing out of the gutters and a leaky old roof. The house is ill kept outside and has no yard or access to the water. Inside the furniture and decor have not been updated or cleaned for decades -- the living room consists of a couple of broken down chairs facing an old fireplace. The rooms are dark, smelly and depressing. The beds are old and uncomfortable; the bedding smells dank. We spent one night there and left. The owners were defensive and oblivious to the obvious problems with this property. This place should not be rented to anyone. It should be torn down or at least gutted. As is, it is a sad and depressing place -- not where you would want to spend a well-earned vacation. I only saw the reception area of their other property -- the Trollhagen Lodge -- but I would not recommend that place either. It appeared ill kept and in dire need of updating/remodeling.
Owner response:All of these complaints are completely unfounded. We would hate to hear what she would have written if she had spent the entire week that she reserved instead of the few hours that it took her to park her mother, father, brother and their 2 very large dogs in the home—which was a surprise to us--and took off with her new boyfriend to an unknown accommodation. Funny, the mother, father and brother had no complaints and seemed perfectly satisfied as they were the ones that spent the entire week in the home. We have never had any complaints on the home which we have rented for years. It is unfortunate that we were the brunt of her frustrations. The only reason we can figure her tirade is that her new boyfriend wanted to get out of the reservation because he didn’t want to spend his vacation with her mother, father, brother and dogs. She even managed to slander our other lodging business when she only stopped in the office to pick up the keys for the home. Perhaps, in the future, she should not travel with her family members and a new boyfriend.
