Contemporary Jericho Bay House located next to a conservation area is a short ferry ride from Bass Harbor on Mount Desert, the home of Acadia National Park. From the large, two-tiered deck you can see west to the Camden Hills, Deer Isle, Blue Hill, Green Island Light and Western Mountain in Acadia.
Our very private home sits on a secluded point of land overlooking the ocean. Built in 1987, the house is newly remodeled and redecorated and full of the amenities you expect. You will enjoy spectacular sunset views from the Adirondack chairs on the deck, late afternoons on our comfortable rattan chairs on the screened porch, or the cozy warmth of the fireplace in the living room after spending a day of boating and soaking up the sun and beauty of the Maine coast. Be sure to ask for our PowerPoint slides of the property!
As our family vacation home, the house has a lot of warm, personal touches and offers all amenities, including a new kitchen, complete with SubZero and Bosch appliances, new cabinets and granite counters.
The living/dining room area has a cathedral ceiling, a large granite fireplace, and a full wall of large windows overlooking the ocean. Also on the first floor are one large bedroom with a queen bed, a full bath and a smaller room we've converted to an efficient office with fax & phone connections and hopefully with DSL, if the phone company accomodates us.
Upstairs there are two large bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with twin beds, and a full bath. Pella skylights that open brighten and ventilate each of the three upstairs rooms.
Swan's Island is the year-round home to about 350 people (including many who are lobster fishermen) and a host of seals, seabirds and fragrant spruces and firs. Swan’s is a place with no malls or movie theaters -- a place with the serenity and beauty that only nature has to offer. Golf is available on Mount Desert.
Swim in the brisk ocean water off our broad, gently sloping granite point, at the Fine Sand Beach just 5 minutes away, or in the warmer waters of the quarry. Take a short hike for a picnic lunch to the sandy beaches just to the north of us. Hike the Blue Stone Trail, the Goose Pond Trail to Noah's Ballast, a "top-of-the-island" lookout with 360 degree views of Acadia's Cadillac Mountain and Frenchboro on Long Island, or hike through the dark forests and sunny fields to Irish Point Beach. Enjoy blackberry, blueberry and raspberry picking all over the Island. Bike to the famous Hockamock Lighthouse.
Bring your kayak, power boat or sailboat to explore the hundreds of uninhabited islands that surround Swans, or you can watch eagles soar right from our deck. For dinner, pick up fresh lobsters from the Lobster Fishermen’s Co-op.
Want a little more action? Then a short ferry ride and drive will take you to Acadia National Park, the most popular (and beautiful!) park on the US east coast. For tourist attractions, Bar Harbor can’t be beat, and you’ll also be able to visit scenic Northeast Harbor and Seal Cove for great shopping and dining or to see the fabled mansions and gardens of the past. Whale watching tours are available as are nature cruises provided by the Park Service. Your only limitation is your imagination!
To reach Swan's Island, drive to Bass Harbor and take a 35 mimnute ferry ride on the "Everett Libby" to start your vacation! Ferry reservation information and schedules are provided in the link to the State Ferry Service below, but note that the last ferry to the island leaves at 5:15.
