Our cabin is a recently updated log cabin with a covered exterior, so the inside has all the log cabin charm with none of the log cabin draft! It is a three bedroom, two story cabin that sleeps ten comfortably, and is a short distance from all the activities the Houghton Lake area has to offer! It is our home away from home, so we make sure it is updated and well cared for! The kitchen has had new cabinets and counter installed as of January 22, 2008, and we put in new floors as well. The bathroom has a new vanity and toilet also installed as of January 22, 2008. UPDATE 11/23/09: The bathroom also now has a brand new shower enclosure (replaced old glass-door tub), and there is a new water filtration system in place! Installed all new water supply lines to ensure efficiency and cleanliness.
The canal that is on the lot goes right into the lake (8 feet wide at the tunnel under the road), and there is a DNR boat launch down the street where you can launch your boat for a small fee. Any other question? Please give me a call and I'd be happy to answer them!
Important note: This is a log cabin on the inside, so it is somewhat "rustic" in appearance. If you are looking for a shiny new cottage, you are in the wrong place! If you are looking for charm and character, and a comfortable place to spend some vacation time, you ARE in the RIGHT PLACE!

- Waterfront, not Lake/Oceanfront. Ask for details : We are on a canal that goes into Houghton Lake, it passes under the road and is 8 feet wide, so all but the largest boats fit through without problems.

- Kayaks and other boat rental nearby, DNR boat launch less than a mile away. This is our own cabin that we rent out, so it is lovingly cared for and updated regularly, but it is intended to retain a RUSTIC interior feel. The bedrooms are drywall, but the lower level is all natural log walls or wooden beadboard. We are trying to keep a "lodge" feel here!

- Pet Friendly : Small, well behaved pets are allowed, additional $100 security deposit for pets, $50 additional cleaning fee taken from this deposit for pets regardless of stay length.
- Kid Friendly : We welcome the whole family! There is a canal on the property, as well as interior wooden stairs, so small children must be supervised at all times!

NOW ONLY $450/WEEK YEAR ROUND!! Nightly rental $100 per night when available.
Tip-Up Town weekends from Thursday through Monday for $300.
Half of rental cost plus $100 security dep within one week of reservation,
other half due no less than 6 weeks before rental dates.

Mold and dirt in the fridge, grime and dirt on the bottom of the shower with hair on the sides, toilet- I wont mention, dishwasher was broken with a lovely sign on it that said 'out of order', mattresses with unmentionable stains, carpet upstairs with unknown stains, only 1 air conditioner upstairs that was propped up with a board, dog hair all over the furniture, completely rusted bbq grill that looked like it was going to fall over at any second, canal was more like a swamp with a little water, mosquitos the size of small birds, the stairway was so unsafe it didnt even have any railings! And the smell....oh the smell, kinda like a cross between mildew, mustiness and wet dog. We barely unpacked our belongings only to repack then frantically look for another place to stay. Upon calling the owner, he offerred to have the place "recleaned" and to put air conditioners in all the bedrooms as was advertised but would do nothing about the dishwasher. He was persistant in stating that the property was "exactly as advertised". I could not have disagreed more . It took the owner 5 days to return our money and even then had said that he was only returning it not because we deserved it but because he didnt want to "interact with us any further". The owner went on to say that he wanted to make sure that we hadnt just changed our minds and decided to stay somewhere else because that happened to him last year. Uhhh, maybe the owner should get a clue and realize that no one wants to spend their vacation in a dump surrounded by a swamp!!! Instead of this property being for sale it should be condemned. We have learned our lesson and will NEVER rent another place without seeing it first even if I have to drive 5 hours to do it.
Owner response:Fridge is about 20 years old, and has some rust and grease markings around the door and hinges. Some shelves are a little rusted as well, but all was fully functional. Dishwasher was broken, which has been updated on site until I can get it fixed, and which I offered a discount as compensation for the inconvenience. Shower was NOT dirty, there was no "grime and dirt," there is some hard water staining due to the high iron content of the water in the area. The stairway does have a handrail, and the cabin smells like an old house, not wet dog. Perhaps the wet dog smell was coming from her own dog that she brought. The grill works fine, it is an older charcoal grill that sits outside year round. And the fire pit is a designated area that is flush with the ground to prevent damage to snowmobiles or cars in the winter. The canal is a canal over which I have no control on the water levels and weeds, which I explained before they ever came up that if it is dry the water level does go down. There were three air conditioners in the cabin, which I offered to install for her, but she decided that there was no amount of response I could give her other than a complete refund. Offered to come over and personally clean whatever areas she found offensive, which she flatly refused. This person was completely impossible to please in any way. My impression is that she expected to have a five star hotel at the cabin, which I clearly advertise is not the case...it is a log cabin with a rutic interior (though clean), and the only reason I took five days to refund her money is because she said she was going to send me pictures, then was unable to do so. A full refund was given, even though the customer refused any offers to help make things more to her liking, and even with an offer of a further discount (she had alread been given a 20%+ discount). I have also learned a valuable lesson, and will be sure that people understand that we are not a hotel or $1000/week condo.
