AnnaRita knows what your dream is when you travel in Italy – to live like an Italian, experiencing all this Country has to offer in terms of coziness, relaxation, and comfort – all savoured with great food and wine and, of course, plenty of art to enjoy. That's why she made her home, Cassiopea, available to you. Her apartment is clean, cozy, and quiet. It is located in one of the most typical neighborhoods of central Bologna, the Italian capital of gourmet cuisine. In the surrounding area is a colorful assortment of amazing little restaurants and trattorias, flower and coffee shops, greengrocers, on-street markets, tiny old-fashioned stores and everything you'll need to spend your vacation the real Italian way.
All begins in the morning when you open the bedroom window to a gorgeous view of this Medieval city, its famous towers and its green surrounding hills. Breathing the fresh air on the balcony (with an espresso coffee in your hand), you'll start making plans for the day. Visiting historical Bologna would take only a five-minute ride on one of the six buses stopping right around the corner. Or it is just a twenty-minute walk to the renowned Piazza Maggiore with all the major monuments and stores. Want to spend the day in Venice, Florence, Mantua, Ravenna, Ferrara, Verona, Rimini, or Padua instead? Just choose one of these destinations and take a train (station at only about ten minutes by bus). You'll be there in minutes, and will be able to come back for dinner, if you want.
This impeccably maintained apartment is a true delight. It is full of light, both in the morning and in the afternoon. It is a section of a typical 1920's Bolognese family house. Thoroughly refurbished and newly furnished in February 2010, the apartment (fourth floor, no elevator) consists of a bedroom with two single beds (that can be easily put together to form a queen-size bed), a living room that can turn into a second bedroom by simply unfolding two comfortable twin sofa beds, a fully-equipped kitchen, a bathroom with tub and shower, a hallway and a balcony.
Amenities include air-conditioning, a TV/VCR/DVD, a phone line with broadband wi-fi internet access, a washing machine and plenty of kitchen tools and appliances. But the best features is the breathtaking view over this beautiful city and its hills. Cassiopea is a fantastic alternative to a hotel stay, a perfect solution for the relocating executive and short-term visitor as well as for those in need of a second home, a guest home or a weekend getaway. AnnaRita looks forward to hearing from you. Ciao!

Truely a Home Away from Home

Guest: Nancy (PA)
Date of Stay: 12/07/11 Review Submitted: 02/02/12

It was a pleasure for my husband and me to stay at Cassiopea for 8 weeks this fall. Truely Anna Rita and Piero anticipated our every need and beyond. Bologna is a beautiful midievil city; not a tourist destination and one feels like you are living in Italy, not just visiting, Cassiopea is located in a charming neighborhood, walking distance from the inner city, but also an easy bus ride to the inner city or train station. Shopping at the market for fresh vegtables, meats and pasta is fun and Anna Rita's kitchen is a delight to cook in. Many delicious restaurants are closeby should you choose not to cook. The apartment is immaculately clean, comfortable, and decorated with Anna Rita's artwork. It truely feels like a home and not a rental. Our two adult sons joined us for our last two weeks and the apartment was comfortable for four of us as well. Bologna is centrally located and we enjoyed easy day trips by train to Florence, Venice, Parma and Ravenna. Always nice to have Cassiopea as a base to come home to after a day of travel. Cassiopea is also within walking distance of one of Bologna's most beautiful walks, the Portico di San Luca. The longest continuous arcade in the world, 666 arches lead to the beautiful Santuario della Madonna di San Luca a top a hill with views of all of Bologna. We enjoyed this walk often. We hope to return to Bologna and would very much like to return to Cassiopea. We would highly recommend this property to anyone. Anna Rita's ricotta cake is not to be missed! Thank you very much Anna Rita and Piero for making our time in Italy so special.

Thank you Annarita and Piero for your warm welcome. We really enjoyed our short but fun filled time in Bologna. The apartment was clean, well located, with a lovely little balcony. Our hosts were very helpful upon arrival with all kinds of tips and information. Also thank you for arranging our ride and our pick up at the train station. That truely makes it easier for out of the country travellers. We are sorry to have been there on a Sunday as lots of shops etc. were closed. Remember to pack lite when travelling as the stairs up to the apt. are a real work out! We hope to be able to come back again.

A great alternative to a hotel

We considered Cassiopea to be our home in Italy. It is a spacious, clean and well equipped apartment in a friendly and well-serviced neighborhood just outside Bologna's old town. Anna Rita and Piero were very helpful - they picked us up at the train station, provided many helpful hints on things to see and do in Bologna and left us with one of Anna Rita's delicious cakes. Much more than we ever expected. The only negative is the three flight climb to the apartment, but it proved to be excellent exercise and a good way to burn off some of those extra calories from the delicious Bolognese cuisine.

Great rental in a great neighborhood

We initially were trying to rent a property inside the downtown historic area but after beingbherevfor a week we are thrilled with our selection. We have been only a 10 minute walk to the core which is delightful, but the biggest bonus for us is the neighborhood. With great spots for groceries, at least 3 salumerias, half a dozen bakeries, several spots for fresh pasta, half a dozen bars, and a good selection of restaurants this area has it all. We could easily walk to the hike up the porticos, into the hills south of town for a countryside hike and a quick bus ride to the train station this has to be one of our favorite properties to rent ever on VRBO. Thanks to Anna Rita and Piero for the wonderful pickup at the train station and filling us in on all the details of the flat in their walk around, this property had everything we needed and it all worked perfectly. The ricotta cake was the welcoming gift that made us know we had chosen well. Enjoy Bologna, the best food in Italy by far without all the crazy crowds of Venice and Florence and the locals are delightful and happy to help with language barriers.

Cassiopea

All of those great reviews are right on. Great place. It's about a 20 minute walk to Piazza Maggiore, or an easy bus ride takes you right to the corner, about 50 ft from the apartment. Well equipped, and with three separate rooms, it's pretty big for a European apartment. As two adults, we were very comfortable, and a small child or two would do well also, but it would be tight with four adults. Be aware that it is a fourth floor walk-up without an elevator, if you think that might be an issue. Piero and Anna Rita were easy to do business with, and you can tell this is a privately owned apartment, and not run through a management company. Their knowledge of the English language helped immensely.

At home in Bologna

I would stay here just for the Anna Rita's ricotta torta! However, the bonus is the warm, welcoming environment provided by Anna Rita and Piero. Prior to renting the apartment, the communication was terrific and there were no surprises. The apartment felt like home and was even bigger than pictured. The little balcony was perfect for a morning espresso or late afternoon antipasto and vino. After a long day of sightseeing, it was great to come back to a comfortable bed. The location was great as we were only a 15 min walk to the center of the city and there were many shops and good restaurants close to the apartment.Highly recommended for your stay in Bologna.

Perfetto accommodations

Date of Stay: 03/28/11 Review Submitted: 04/26/11

Cassiopea provided a wonderful home base for our recent trip to Bologna. It is located just outside the viale (boulevards) that encircle the old city, and is steps from one of the main bus lines. Yet it is also within walking distance of the arcade that leads to the Santuario di San Luca, a beautiful basilica church on one of the hills south of Bologna. The apartment is located within walking distance of 2 supermarkets and a natural foods market. Each was well-stocked, and provided the essentials for our stay. I would suggest, however, that you venture out to the Mercato delle Erbe for some fresh fruit and vegetables (and herbs, of course). The apartment was perfect for the two of us, and would likely accommodate 4 comfortably. It was clean, and we had no problems with it (save for a tape player that seems to run constantly). It has a tub, but no shower. This did not pose any problems for us. And having a washing machine made an extended stay easy to manage. The owners, Annarita and Piero, were very helpful, picking us up from the airport, and readily offering answers to our questions by e-mail (or by telephone). And what is otherwise written about Annarita's torta is true! It's a good thing you'll have a few steps to climb to allow you to enjoy it guilt-free. One suggestion on nearby restaurants: try to visit these restaurants: Meloncello, Scacco Matto, and Al Sangiovese. You will not be disappointed. The notes of other visitors to Cassiopea can provide information on the location of Meloncello, which is very close.

Great Bologna experience!

Date of Stay: 03/06/11 Review Submitted: 03/15/11

The previous reviews were all correct! Great stay for one week in March 2011. If you chose this Bologna location, you are in for a treat. Read the 'guest book' for good leads on restaurants and site-seeing suggestions. Would definitely return in the future and will recommend to friends. Loved the walk into the center of town and the bus is easy too. I found the property much nicer and bigger than it appeared in the photos... maybe it's great high ceilings, being on the top floor or the wonderful views of Bologna out the windows. The wonderful kitchen even inspired me to tap into my "inner Italian". I wouldn't change a thing. These folks have the vacation rental concept fine-tuned to perfection. (I will now incorporate some of your ideas -- love IKEA! -- in my Tucson VRBO.) We did to go to Olivo's to see Anna Rita's original paintings after enjoying her art work so much in the apartment. Loved the ease of paying on Paypal. Thanks again for the attention to detail (read: ricotta torte)! Bravo!

A lovely week at Cassiopea.

Date of Stay: 08/23/10 Review Submitted: 08/30/10

We enjoyed a great week in Bologna, staying in this charming apartment. All mod cons are provided (including fantastic air conditioning - a must during the baking August heat), and the apartment itself is tastefully decorated and very clean. The balocny, although small, is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast in the morning and a candle-lit meal in the evening. There are excellent shops nearby to buy delicious local produce (try the ice cream at the local Gelateria) and the very centre of the city is only about a 20 minute walk away. We would certainly recommend Cassiopea to anyone and hope to be back ourselves in the future.

A Wonderful Month's Stay at Cassiopea

Guest: Ron and Felicia (Denver, CO, USA)
Date of Stay: 05/01/10 Review Submitted: 05/30/10

Notes from Ron and Felicia - Denver, CO Stayed May 1st through May 31st 2010 Like everyone else, we loved the Ricotta Torta. The apartment is bright and cheerful and we never had to use the air conditioning or the heat. By opening the windows we always had a refreshing breeze. The location is wonderful—it’s very convenient for day-to-day shopping on Viale Andrea Costa and only a ten minute bus ride or 20 minute walk to the center of things—Piazza Maggiore. Anna Rita and Pier, the owners, stocked the apartment with all the essentials and were more than just landlords—they were warm and informative friends. Recommended places in the apartment vicinity: -Pasticceria Venice—the guy there is a sweetheart and will make having a cafe and a dolci a pleasure. He’ll remember your preferences -Panoficio Tubertini (next to the Venice) – has the best bread around (more Roman than Bolognese) and sells a round, breakfast sweet bread called Ciambelle Casalinghe which is highly addictive. -The Co-Op for shopping—it’s a bit small and crowded but it has everything you need to shop for “cooking in.” -With few exceptions the trattorias around the vicinity are good. We ate in most of them and only ever had one mediocre meal. Other folks in this apartment's diary book have waxed eloquent about their favorite restaurants—no need to duplicate all that here. -We loved the walk up to Basiclica San Luca through the 666 arches—you can walk it both ways from the apartment if you’ve got young legs, or you can, as we did, take a taxi to the top and then walk back to the apartment. The walk back took perhaps 45 minutes. -I took a three day pasta making class at La Vecchia Scuole (a ten minute walk) and loved it. You can take fewer or more days of the classes but it’s not something you want to pass up. The folks are great and you’ll learn the basics of a great Bolognese tradition. The cost is reasonable, plus it’s only a ten minute walk away. In our opinion we made a wise choice by renting Anna Rita and Pier’s apartment. You’re in for a treat. Enjoy! Ron and Felicia
