Good Stay at Convenient Location, with a few caveats

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at PH 504 at Ixchel Beach. Our stay was for five nights, from 3/3-3/8, and our party was comprised of two adults (mid-30s), a 2-year old and a 7 month old. We also brought an 18 year old babysitter along as a mother's helper. We were on Isla Mujeres for a family wedding, and most of our party (30+ people) stayed at Ixchel Beach. The Good: This unit has an amazing rooftop terrace and view. The owners have child-proofed the unit well, including adding metal "mesh" fencing above the spiral staircase and adding a gate at the top of the staircase. The jacuzzi is a nice built in one, not a freestanding unit like the other penthouses had. The beds were very comfortable, a rarity in this complex, as I heard many complaints of thin mattresses from other family members. The kitchen is small, but has everything you need except a dishwasher (not common in the Caribbean anyway). The view is awesome from this unit and Ixchel Beach is located a short walk from anything you could possibly need on vacation. The on-site pools are really nice. Also, this PH gets the most shade in the morning of any PH's because of where it sits in the building. The Bad: This unit is showing its age and use a bit. The sun is strong and the cushion on the sunbed has rips. The unit has some cracked tiles in the master and the showerheads, while having decent water pressure, need cleaning to remove deposits that make the water go in all directions. The shower on the rooftop is unusable as the head puts out barely a trickle. Our biggest complaint is about Ixchel management's treatment of the guests of Unit 504. This unit is managed by a different company than onsite mgmt. The mgmt company - Mundaca - is great. Their reps are nice and we liked them. However, it's clear that Ixchel mgmt is displeased with the fact that some owners have decided to use another mgmt company. We were denied access to the on-site washer and dryer (they wouldn't sell us tokens) and we were told "you know your services with us are limited" when we asked for our parent's room number. The guy was standing around doing nothing when we asked! Note: our parents rented directly from Ixchel Beach so they were "his" guests! I felt at times as if we were treated as second class citizens by the workers at Ixchel Beach - even when asking what time it was. I hope that Cecilia (the owner who is very helpful) can speak to the powers that be at Ixchel and see that her guests are treated better.

We are very sorry if it was not correct communicated properly , but the laundry token you had trouble obtaining are readily available for Melchor or Will when required . good value for family

Our family of four (kids are 4 and 7 years) enjoyed our stay at Ixchel. The location is fantastic with a beautiful and calm beach outside, sunsets views and wonderful restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. We rented the one bedroom option of suite 504 without the extra bedroom. It worked out fine for us. The couch in the living room turns into a bed (I think) but we preferred to use the extra futon in our bedroom for the kids. The bed was very comfortable. I could not have slept on the futon but our exhausted kids (after a day on the beach) were not bothered by it at all. Our check in should have been smooth but there was a little hiccup when it seems to have come as a surprise that there were four, not two of us checking into the suite. Things were quickly sorted out however and all was fine from there on in. The suite looks like it is in a little better condition in the photos than it actually is and it is showing a little wear and tear. It was all just small esthetic issues though and did not make any real difference to us. For what we paid it was very fair value. We very much enjoyed our stay on Isla Mujeres.

I still have not found a word that really describes Isla Mujeres and this condo just added to the amazing times we have had there. We spent 5 nights here and loved it. Like all the other reviews this is a great condo, great views, great staff both at the hotel and at Mundaca realty. There were few challenges getting the outdoor theartre working but once it was up and running it was awesome. Bring your favorite concert DVD and watch it on the roof top overlooking the caribe. My only complaint is I had to squeeze limes by hand for the margarita's... (lol) but if thats my biggest problem life is pretty good! Thank you Cecilia and Andrew for sharing this great space. El mejor cumpleaños lo pase en Isla Mujeres, el penthouse perfecto, desde el yacuzzi en la terraza con una vista increible hasta la comodidad de su interior. Desde que nos bajamos del avion nos habian organizado los traslados hasta el departamento y la movilidad dentro de la Isla. Fuimos con mi marido y mis tres hijos pequeños y disfrutamos de las instalaciones super comodas. Capitulo aparte el spa, que como regalo, disfrute el dia de mi cumpleaños. Para conocerlo!!!!!!! La playa? Increible, la mejor de la Isla. El servicio de limpieza perfecto, nunca los vi pero siempre estaba todo impecable. Para tener en cuenta....... el restaurant hace envios al penthouse y es muy bueno. Gracias a Will y Cecy por tener todo previsto para pasar las mejores vacaciones. Lo recomendamos a nuestros amigos y esperamos volver pronto!!!!!!!

Memorable stay

We stayed here at the end of August for 3 nights with 2 kids – had a relaxing and fun stay. This is a great penthouse, we enjoyed amazing sunsets in the Jacuzzi every evening. Location is perfect (for dining, beach and touring), and the unit is fully equipped with everything we needed. We were taken care of from the time we stepped off the Isla ferry. Cecilia is wonderful to work with – she is responsive and accommodating with our travel needs. We will be sure to return to Ixchel and can’t wait to stay in this penthouse again.

Wonderful Stay

We stayed here for 4 great days with our 3 kids ages 8, 5 and 5. Everything was perfect - the accommodations, the setting, the town, the beach, everyone involved with helping make our stay exactly what we wanted it to be. We came here in the middle of a 2 week vacation to Cancun and wish we had spent the entire two weeks on Isla Mujeres. Thank you for sharing your amazing place - we will definitely be back!

I absolutely love this penthouse!!! My husband and I return every year around the same time and always book this property. It has a gorgeous view, the management company is fantastic and we love the amenities. This is our 4th year coming back and I even did a girls weekend most recently. The property has something for everyone and the area surrounding the property is accessable and within walking distance. It is fantastic and we couldn't be happier. Two couple spent a very enjoyablve week at Ixchel. Best location for beach and Hildago st. Great roof top patio. If you are not looking for a resort enviroment this is the place. Do your thing. Felt like I was at home, very comfortable and met all our needs.

We stayed in this condo from 24/09/09 thru 10/01/09. This has been one of the best vacations ever! we had a wonderful time, the location couldn't be better. We had had in Cancun, but this was the first time in Isla Mujeres. the condo is beautiful!! Every morning we had our breakfast with a wonderful sight to the beach, and the fabulous rooftop terrace for the sunsets... Very friendly staff and water activities are right on the property. There is a restaurantat at the hotel perfect for lunch, snacks and beverages. Margaritas are delicious! We spent one day touring the island in a motorcycle and we went to "garrafon" for snorkeling and visited the turtles and the ixchel temple. I highly recommend the penthouse #503 and 504. i have been coming to isla for 13 years, staying at a neighboring resort. i decided to splurge a little, as i watched the ixchel being built, i said i want to stay there. the condo was great, the roof top at night, staring at the stars, laying on the bed, listening to the stereo, very, very nice. fouton uncomfortable. english CNN would have been great. on a great beach, sunset grill is the best. ask for milo, and tell him "mr lemon drop" sent you. being able to charge to your room was a plus. guest services were very good, as was the maid service. AWESOME place overall.

We had a great stay at this condo. We have stayed at another unit in Ixchel and the bed in this one IS more comfortable. I know the point of going on vacation is to not cook but we had a diabetic with us so we cooked a lot during our weeks stay. More pans to cook with and a set of tongs would be helpful. Overall another great visit to Isla. Having all the Ipod hook ups was great. Getting to listen to our music was awesome. My in-laws watched movies every night on the TV's. Would stay here again! We had a wonderful time on Isla Mujeres. The condo is gorgeous and the views from the lower balcony and the penthouse deck are amazing! We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the big table on the penthouse deck and just loved looking out at the ocean. The location could not be better. We just walked the few steps to the beach whenever we wanted to and could easily walk to the town to eat or just enjoy the atmosphere. The Ixchel staff are extremely helpful, efficient and polite. The condo was immaculate and everything in the building was very well maintained. I hope I can return some day!!

This was the best vacation ever! The condo, the beach, the island....Paradise! It couldn't have been any better. Everything was perfect. I should not even tell you this, but I cried...I cried on the ferry ride as we were leaving the island for the last time. When I tried to imagine the perfect vacation, my dreams did not paint the picture for what Isla offered me and my family. If you want to visit a place where the people are friendly, the views are spectacular, the food is delicious, the drinks are abundant, and the room is out of this world, I would strongly suggest you make a reservation today. It was paradise. From lounging on the custom made bed on the rooftop terrace and gazing at the stars or lounging on the beach or walking the streets of downtown Isla Mujeres, there is something for everyone to enjoy. The kids loved it all! They were trying very hard to find their dad a job on the island so that we would not have to leave...and I am considering the move...the sooner the better. The staff is fabulous and so very helpful. We took a private tour of Chichen Itza as well as a private boat ride with snorkeling. Playa Norte is the place to stay and #503/504 is one of a kind. Simply said, it is heaven on Earth.

We stayed in this amazing condo from 12/28/08 thru 1/11/09. The pictures do not do it justice. Beds very comfy- rare in Mexico. Big bathrooms with plenty of hot water and pressure. Digital Safe in each bedroom for valubles. The balcony with nice view and couple of chairs- would be nice to have small table. The rooftop- incredible- We spent every morning there lounging on the sunbed and chairs as well as late afternoon and late evening relaxing in hot tub. Also bought laptop up and able to sit at the table and check mail. The bathroom on the roof is the same as downstairs and one of our teenagers made it their primary bathroom for getting ready. The hot tub is great and can be as hot or cool as you like. The main drag on Hidalgo is a 2 minute walk. Great food every place we ate. The little restaurant at the hotel is good and convient for lunch and snacks as is the place on the beach. We did not spend much time at the beach due to chairs being close together but didn't miss due to great roof top area. Spent one day touring the island with golfcarts- lots of fun. Also went to Garafon de Castillo- NOT the big disneylike one- and had a wonderful time. Nice facilities and excellent snorkling from the beach- highly recommend. Lidda came and cleaned every day and new towels. Front desk and concierge nice and helpful- the staff goes out of there way to make sure you are happy. Overall A+++++.

We stayed in this fabulous penthouse, and enjoyed every minute of it. It certainly was the life of luxury......sitting in the jacuzzi, sipping beverages, and enjoying a gorgeous view of the ocean! Our penthouse had two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, three tvs, a balcony, and the most unbelievable private upstairs deck with another bath, grill, sink, sun bed, jacuzzi, and refrigerator. Hi Cecilia and Andrew,It’s almost a week since we came back from vacation and it’s still hard. Hard because we left a place we really fell in love with and leaving it wasn’t an easy thing to do.We really must say that we appreciated about everything, from the people very nice and who made us feel at home to the beach, the view, the atmosphere so peaceful; well, we loved it!! Ixchelpenthouse was just beautiful and the apartment even better than we hoped for. As you can imagine, we can’t wait to go back! Too bad Switzerland is so far away. Anyway, thank you for everything, thank you to have made it possible for us to be there and thank you for the precious advices that we followed in order to make our stay just perfect.Luca and Patrick went diving, snorkelling and swimming with the dolphins. Jessica and I walked a lot, rented bikes and rode around the islands or just stayed at the beach reading a book.Once we get a little organized (we’re still a little tired from the trip back and after 2 days in NYC!) we will send you some pictures we took on the island.On Easter day we rented a car and drove down to Tulum and loved it even if it was very hot!! On the way back we wanted to stop at Playa del Carmen, we parked the car, walked to the beach but once there we looked around, it was so crowded and noisy that we looked at each other and went back straight to “our” island.First time in Mexico but sure not last!! Great place to stay. Great staff,no problems at all.The rooftop king bed is the best place to relax and watch the stars. I will be back.

this review should have been in sooner but since we have been back from paradise (isla) life has defiantely gotten in the way of me writing....anyway...how do i begin to describe this beautiful small island and the wonderful home of cecelia and andrew?....we have had bad experiences in the past and we were leery about this place but it looked exactly like the pics and was everything you've read from others and more...it was centrally located...great beach, beautiful water.great service from pablo on the beach................. comfy bed, great pressure in the shower, full kitchen, big towels, and the best part...an unbelievable penthouse rooftop with the best view and a relaxing great jacuzzi all to ourselves........the staff was wonderful and so helpful with absolutely no attitude at all..you had the best of both worlds by staying in your own condo but also having the front desk at your beckin call if there was a problem..........it was our first trip to isla and when we go back there we couldn't imagine staying anywhere else on the island except in cecelia's penthouse...it was worth every penny....we also had the pleasure of actually meeting her while we were there because she was there for a few days and we got a chance to see the face that matched the warm voice of the woman who was very friendly and helpful...it was a wonderful short six days of paradise and we can't wait to one day return...the imagine of that absolutely beatuiful turquise water stays with me, especially on stressful days since we've been back home here in the cold....we recommend this highly..thank you cecelia.....michele and dottie

Fabulous place for our 6th annual girlfriends trip! We loved everything about his island, especially our 'Home away from home'. We spent so much time "up on the roof" in our private penthouse hideaway, talking, laughing an creating memories we will treasure for many years. It was hard to decide where to spend our time: the beautiful beaches, the incredible restaurants or lounging in the sun "up top". The hotel staff also made our trip complete, so friendly and helpful. Cecilia and Andrew were excellent to work with. They provided instant communication with the arrangements and extra help when requested. They feel like good friends instantly. The condominium was extremely comfortable for our family of 5. The condo has a European feel to it, which we liked very much. The best part of course is the penthouse roof deck. It is a heaven onto itself. I will remember forever the feeling on our first evening, after leaving the cold northeast, after arduous airline connections, lying on the daybed late into the night with the Caribbean’s warm breeze rejuvenating my soul. It was an effort to leave that for bed. I cannot think of not going back.

We returned from Ixchel, on La Isla Mujeres a little over a week ago. It's hard to imagine the beautiful ocean views now, with all this snow on the ground. Our week stay was wonderful, and extremely relaxing, and was only made more so by the well appointed accomodations of penthouse suite 504. To make it even more welcoming, Cecilia and Andrew had decorated the living room with a lovely Christmas tree and ornaments. We thoroughly enjoyed the terrace and reading on the daybed was a favorite treat. We loved having so much space to be together or to have some alone time as we desired. The staff was accomodating and friendly; always eager to provide information or assistance. My only very minor complaint is that the jacuzzi tub is not available 24 hours. While the front desk told us we'd have to call 2 hours in advance of our wanting to use it, it never took that long for someone to come and turn it on for us. Usually it was done within 30 minutes. I was slightly disappointed that we couldn't have it at our whim, but it was really never a problem. This is an outstanding condo, with gorgeous views, a lovely, turqoise beach, white sands, friendly staff and we'd love to come and stay again. The island itself is extremely charming, and enjoyable. We rented golf carts two days of our stay and toured the island, and it was such a treat. I highly recommend a stay at Ixchel, suite 504. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Cecilia and Andrew for your hospitality.

The suite was beautifully decorated and had two bedrooms, two baths, a full kitchen and living room. There was a large balcony off of the living room with a spiral staircase that went to a gorgeous private rooftop terrace that was as large as the main floor of the condo. The rooftop terrace had amazing ocean views, a jacuzzi overlooking the ocean, a living room area with outdoor fireplace, an outdoor kitchen/barbeque area, an area for lounging in the sun, a dining area, and a full bathroom with shower. Simply gorgeous. The hotel is on north beach and the beach was gorgeous with several small beach bars/restaurants nearby. There is a nice but small pool on the proprty that was not crowded and had a pool bar/restaurant at one end. The hotel is low-key, very clean, and all of the staff with whom we had contact were very friendly and professional. I'd highly recommend this property on Isla Mujeres and definitely plan to stay there again in the future.
