Family Retreat in the Black Hills

Guest: Colleen and Craig (Burnsville, MN)
Date of Stay: 09/28/11 Review Submitted: 10/17/11

We needed to find a place that could accommodate separate families and give them privacy yet provide a space where we could all relax and spend time together. The Stage Coach Stop was the perfect solution. Our one and only issue was that we had to leave too soon. Our hosts, Toni and George, were friendly and welcoming. The home's setting in the country was incredible and due to the unique design of the home, the views were equally impressive from the numerous decks or from the large, open family room with panoramic windows. The interior was immaculate, tastefully decorated, with an open and spacious design. We were only a few minutes to town and the surrounding activities yet truly "out in the country". The evenings were peaceful and quiet and the stars at night were dazzling. This property exceeding our expectations. We are already planning additional family gatherings in the Black Hills and will be looking to the Stage Coach as our first option.

The house is just as nice as the pictures show. It was very clean and the grounds well maintained. Everything was provided as described in listing and even some things that weren't, like trash bags and laundry detergent etc..... Very relaxing atmosphere. Would rent again. Toni and George are two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet.

This was the perfect place for a family vacation. Some of us flew in and others traveled by car. The setting is delightful - Toni and George have created a fabulous vacation home. There was plenty of room for everyone both inside and outside. There is so much to do in the area, we wished we'd stayed longer. We will return....Thank you Toni and George. We've stayed in VRBO for years and your lovely home tops the list of favorites.

Summer Family Fun

Guest: Scott S.
Date of Stay: 06/17/11 Review Submitted: 07/10/11

Our family of four stayed here for almost a week. George and Toni were most welcoming and helpful. The house was spacious, extremely clean and very comfortable. Our teenage daughters loved being able to have their own space. The kitchen had everything we needed, including a dishwasher. Having a washer and dryer made our vacation much easier. The house dogs, Monte and Mason were so friendly and cute and helped us not miss our dogs so much. The vibe of the house was laid back and relaxed, we enjoyed sitting out on the porch listening to the birds sing or soaking in the hot tub at the end of the day. The house is located just outside of Hot Springs which has several grocery stores and the Mammoth Site. We drove to all the sights in the area, including the Badlands, Devil's Tower, the Air and Space Museum, Mount Rushmore, Bear Country, Jewel Cave and the parks with their beautiful scenic drives. I would highly recommend staying here.

We stayed at the Stagecoach Stop for a family reunion (first one we've had in over 50 years). Not all of us were able to stay there of course, but those of us that did were the lucky ones! It was a truly wonderful experience, not in small part due to the perfect home we rented. It was even nicer than advertised. Toni and George were very friendly and extremely helpful. Friendly dog and gentle horses that we enjoyed. I would recommend this home to anyone. We plan to go back - it may become a destination site. THANK YOU Toni and George.

We stayed at the Stagecoach in October of 2009 for 10 days...this is our third time staying. While you would think you might tire of a place the answer is NOT HERE! The home is consistently maintained, always pristinely clean, and beautiful. This time we were four in our party. Myself and spouse, mom and grandma. With all the bedrooms and baths everyone had their own space for relaxing. The living room is extremely spacious and is great for coming together for family time. All the amenities you need are here. We so enjoyed the hot tub and sauna shower. Convinced mom to hit the soaking jetted tub...her new favorite, she wants one for home. The hosts, Toni and George are starting to become family, they really embody hospitality. They assisted in receiving and having oxygen picked up for Grandma (thanks so much !!). The surroundings are beautiful. My grandma loved watching the horses and she loved the house so much. This was the fist vacation for her in many years and she talks alot about it and what a great time she had. In summary, if you are looking for a place where you can get away, relax, and have amenities galore, Stagecoach HAS IT ALL!

We just got back from our stay at the Stagecoach and can't believe we didn't stay longer! The home had everything we needed & more! The sunset/sunrises and views were fantastic! We had 3 kids in the house and each loved looking out at the horses each day - What a treat! The house is close enough to everything so it wasn't a long drive to get to any of the touristy places. What a great place! We will definatly be back!! Thanks again!

Family Roundup

Guest: The Matriarch (Saylorsburg, PA)
Date of Stay: 07/18/09 Review Submitted: 07/28/09

A log home with a Stage Coach Stop address has the image of a rustic, primitive dwelling. We city folks found it to be quite the opposite! Our diverse family of nine with ages ranging from 11 to 84 were totally captivated with the luxurious amenities, panoramic views, interior decor, and the completely relaxing ambiance. Over the years I have rented many houses for our family vacations, but we all agree that this was our favorite. Part of the special charm of the week was having our gracious hosts, Toni and George, around for suggestions, conversation, and yes, a heating pad! I would be remiss if I did not include Monty, the lovable Golden Retriever, as a serious contributor to everyone's joy! Thanks again and aloha!

Our Winter Stay

Date of Stay: 01/05/09 Review Submitted: 04/04/09

We spent much of the winter here at the Stagestop. It was excellent! I can not express how great it was. The log home is beautiful, roomy and very welcoming. We had several guests who would agree that it is fun, comfortable and very amazing. The views are wonderful all day long and every day. The "hosts" are great people who made us feel laid back and relaxed. The house has everything you need and more, and we can not wait to go back. It is way better than we could have imagined. Great escape. Thank you so much.

Owner response:These visitors own the KOA Camp Ground in Dubois, Wyoming and we really appreciated their feedback because they are in the business themselves. It is very fulfilling know our guests were comfortable and we strive to make everyone’s visit wonderful. Owners Toni and George

The kids loved the place so much we had to drag them to see the sights. We also had another family stay with us. We had 4 adults, 3 kids, and 2 dogs and everyone had their space.

My family stayed at the Stagecoach Stop Ranch as part of a very important time in our lives. My mother died just over a year ago, and she had wanted to take the whole family on a trip to visit the area where my dad had served in the CCC camps (nearby, now the site of the Black Hills Theater) in 1940. Mom wasn't able to make the trip with us, but Dad was ready this summer. So my sisters and I, two of our husbands, two teenagers, and a border collie made the trek with Dad to a place we had visited many years ago as children and that meant very much to him. A lot of sentiment was riding on this trip, and the property, plus the wonderful owners Toni and George, made it perfect. They have thought of pretty much everything. As other reviewers attest, there are lots of spaces for being apart (decks for reading as the sun rises, three bedrooms, lovely baths) as well as places to be together (large living room with huge TV for watching a movie, deck grilling area, outdoor spa, kitchen for cooking together, good eating space). The vistas are spectacularly beautiful and tranquil, and Toni and George are impeccable owner hosts. We could not have asked for a better experience. We recommend it with great enthusiasm.

Perfect Restful Getaway

Guest: outdoor woman (Brownsburg, Indiana)
Date of Stay: 06/09/08 Review Submitted: 06/23/08

Wonderful family getaway. Plenty of room for all (10 in our group) to do things together or find a cornor to read or do your own thing. We are a loud group when we are together, but it was not hard to find a quiet spot. Kids loved the big screen TV, air hockey table, hot tub, and the property where they were able to play and run around. The house was very clean and well-maintained, the pictures and description were accurate, this is one place I would have no problem recommending to friends or going back to. The kitchen area was great for our cook (the sister who loves to cook) there was plenty of room for all of us to sit and eat, and during the evening the table was a great place to play games. One mother, three daughters, four kids and one husband all agreed that this was a great place to stay. It was not far to any of the tourists sites in the Mount Rushmore area. Hot Springs has a wonderful little bookstore for any reader. And for those who like physical exercise, but not everyone in your group is in the same physical shape the Mickelson Trail is great for hiking or biking, one of the trail heads was about 10 miles from the house. We drove north of Custer about 3 miles and hiked south to Custer a little more protection for some in our group. So if you are looking for a great location to stay that is clean, quiet, safe, peaceful and just a great place for a family to get together and spend quality time I would recommend this house and location.

We were very skeptical renting a place to stay over the internet. Our stay in the Black Hills was absolutely fabulous, and this home was wonderful! The pictures are not at all deceiving; the house was immaculate and included everything we needed. I have nothing negative to say about this property at all. My two brothers, my sister and myself rented the house in September, 2007, and it was the perfect place to stay- the setting is private and gorgeous, and there was plenty of room. We are hoping to return to the Black Hills again soon, and would stay here again without question.

Our best private rental experience ever!

Date of Stay: 12/01/07 Review Submitted: 12/12/07

I visited in December 2007, with my husband and mother. The home is in a great location and easy to find. We are choosy about a place to stay. The home is pristinely clean and extremely well cared for by the owners who are very accomodating. There is alot of room, a quiet and wonderfully relaxing setting. Terrific amenities to help destress. Hot Springs is just a few miles away and has great coffee shops and spas. We appreciated the owners who took great care in providing information about the town, down to the hours of the grocery stores. We have stayed in many private home and condo rentals and this is by far the best experience. We had stellar service by the owners and upon check out already booked our next stay. I would love to keep this place a secret just for us...but felt compelled to share my experience so others can rejuvenate and enjoy this property !!

Owner response:Rhonda, her Husband and Mother were a treat to meet and have at our home. We are looking forward to many more such visitors. Toni - Home Owner/Manager

Vacation in November 2007

Guest: aleatp (Northfield, MN)
Date of Stay: 11/01/07 Review Submitted: 12/06/07

Lovely place to stay. Clean, well maintained and not cluttered. Our 2 girls (2 and 4 years) loved the freedom to run around in and outside. House on 2 levels, we had the upper level, while the owners intend to move in to lower level soon. Attractions visited included Mount Rushmore, Mammoth Site, Custer State Park - check out wildlife loop and Needles Highway, Lake Sulivan all very close drive. Rapid City about an hour away, went to RCUS church there. Weather good ranging from morning coffee out on the sunny deck to snow flurries! Saw deer up close first thing in morning. Younger children need supervision outside since there are a number of open stairways. Would suggest the local sports club for eating out - lovely meal and friendly staff. Owners very friendly and eager to accomodate our needs. Would recommend this property to you.

Owner response:Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review of our home. We had the opportunity to meet and visit with this family and their Grand Parents who were visiting from Scotland. It is very enjoyable when the opportunity arises to meet our visitors and find out more about them and their families. We love our home, take pride in maintaining it and consider it a privilege to share it with our visitors. The Black Hills of South Dakota are very beautiful and offer a wide range of things to do and see including all kinds of wild life which we have right on our property. Sincerely, Toni - Home Owner/Manager

This is a beautiful property. The first morning we saw 8 or 9 elk walk right through the back property - how exciting for all of us to see up so close. There are nice touches to this house such as the softest, thickest towels, a fully stocked kitchen, and quality furniture. We especially enjoyed the hot tub - the stars overhead were the brightest ever - living in the city one forgets just how beautiful the stars are. Toni was most helpful and very accommodating in our needs. We enjoyed the quiet and the breathtaking views and all felt very rested when it was time to leave. We certainly would book a stay again.
