Great Choice in Cuernavaca!
Great Choice in Cuernavaca!
We were very happy to have chosen this Casita for our March stay in Cuernavaca. The Casita is compact, but has everything two people could want : A safe location on a private, Gated street ; next door neighbors who are close friends of the owner --both kind and helpful; located irectly across the street from a wonderful language school, providing both Spanish instruction and field trips to places such as the Basillica in Mexico City, the Pyramids at Teotihuacan, and the charming , enchanted village of Tepotzan. The outdoor space at the Casita included a large umbrella table and several wrought iron chairs, located on a large shady patio. It also boasted a utility shed, complete with large capacity washer and dryer. A very short walk away was a delightful Plaza, with small shops, banks, and cafes. On one side of the Plaza was a large 24 hr. Pharmacy and a fantastic Italian Restaurant. On the other side of the Plaza was a large, modern, well-stocked Supermarket. We mostly walked or took the local buses, and occasionally took a taxi. Cuernavaca has a lot to offer visitors who are open to adventure and who are willing to explore the city. Mexico is not perfect. For that matter, what Country is? When traveling , it is always best to wear little (if any) jewelry, and to carry only small amounts of cash. Be mindful, and be open to the beauty of the land, the people, and the culture surrounding you. Then come home at night to your safe little Casita, and dulce suenos (sweet dreams)!!

Private and Secure Rental Home in Cuernavaca, Mexico
Private and Secure Rental Home in Cuernavaca, Mexico
This small 2-story home is located in a secure "privada" (gated cul-de-sac), about 20 minutes' walk from downtown Cuernavaca. If you don't want to walk, the reliable and safe radio-taxis are readily available less than a block away. Directly across the street, in the same "privada," is the excellent ASLI Spanish language school, which makes the house a perfect choice for language students. The house is charming but small: a living-room / kitchen downstairs and one bedroom with double-bed and bath up. The only seating downstairs is a couch (which opens to a bed, though it is hard to imagine it open because of limited space) plus the wooden dining-table chairs. However, there is a lovely patio area with table and chairs, which can be enjoyed every day, given the predictably warm and sunny Cuernavaca weather. Aside from wishing for more comfortable seating in the living area (which could be provided by using a smaller dining table --perhaps with a leaf which could be put down-- and some built-in cabinets to take the place of the large armoire), we were happy with the house itself. We could not have been happier with the location, which was perfect for our purposes.

Convenient for walks/taxis
We made the right choice staying in the casita. Easy to walk to shops and restaurants, including a nice grocery store, dry cleaning, salons, computer store, banks/ATM, and coffee shops. Taxis parked around the corner from the house, and we could easily get around town for 30-50 pesos per ride. The house was well-appointed with all dishes and linens. House has phone for making calls with TelCel credit - you can send and receive text and voice messages. Bedroom has shutters to darken room completely. Small balcony is nice for watching sunsets and mountain views. American style washing machine/dryer. Carol was very helpful with travel tips and suggestions. Two cons: Bring earplugs, as we heard a few neighborhood parties and barking dogs. Internet was a little patchy, but they are working to improve the service.

- Nearest Airport: MEXICO CITY at 70 Kilometres
Year Purchased: 1996
About the owner: I first visited Cuernavaca in 1985 to attend the Spanish language school El Centro Bilingue on San Jeronimo, now UNINTER. I loved it there, the weather, people, culture, everything. I bought a vacant lot there in 1986 and built the casita in 1996, the one bedroom bungalow I rent regularly. Cuernavaca truly is the city of eternal spring.
Why the Owner Chose Cuernavaca:
I can walk to so many places from my house. There is an excellent language school, Spanish Language Institute directly across the street; all the shops, restaurants and businesses on Avila Camacho, even the Zocalo as it is downhill from my house. I am on a cul-de sac next to a huge private home so there is not much traffic on my street and the neighbors are wonderful friends now. They manage the property and take care of guests needs.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Weather! it is wonderful. Lots of privacy due to high walls all around. Lovely patio with palms and cactus garden. Very private.
