Perched on a hillside above a secluded Bay on Tortola’s North West coast and situated amongst large boulders and mature trees, is the uniquely idyllic retreat of “Kerensa” This recently completed house is built on a private 2 acre estate bordering Mount Healthy National Park. It was carefully designed to have minimal impact on the beautiful natural setting and take full advantage of the stunning panoramic views over the Islands and Bays of the North Shore. Far away from other houses, the only sounds you’ll hear are the waves on the rocks below....

By combining colourful Caribbean style with quirky antiques and flea market finds from Europe the owners have created an aesthetic, highly individual dwelling that delightfully complements the spectacular location. The house is simple, comfortable and well equipped with accommodation consisting of one bedroom, a bathroom, dining area and a kitchen / living room together with a covered veranda, a brick courtyard and wooden decks around an infinity edge pool and hot-tub area

Close by are the world class beaches of Brewers Bay (3 minutes by car) which features an uncrowded half mile of golden sand and superb snorkeling and Cane Garden Bay (10 minutes) with its’ famous beach and plethora of lively bars and restaurants. Kerensa is centrally situated to explore the island. Roadtown (the capital) is 15 minutes over the hill on the South Shore. Access from the public road is along a ¼ mile unpaved track (a 4WD vehicle is advisable) and parking has been deliberately sited away from the house to preserve the natural ambience with a series of steps (39 to be precise!) leading down to the house.

“Kerensa” is the Cornish word for Love and if you’re looking for a unique and romantic retreat - far from the madding crowd - this is where you'll find it....

Wow...... Kerensa is a wonderful place to stay! Without question Kerensa has one of the best views in the Caribbean. Accommodations are outstanding and Ben and Jess were outstanding hosts. We recommend staying at the villa for evening sunsets. The infinity pool and hottub just add to the entire experience. Be sure to check out Ben and Jess's restaurant: The Last Resort as a fun and tasty experience.

My husband is a BVI "regular" and knew the general location of Kerensa based on the listing. What we didn't realize (until we arrived) is that Kerensa is perched on a unique and private parcel, is adorably appointed, has a perfect floor plan and offers the most stunning vistas of miles of horizon. The linens were excellent quality (something I'm a stickler about), the kitchen (and accoutrements) is perfect for making delicious meals and you have many choices for outdoor dinning with spectaculars view. The property has been lovingly maintained, everything in perfect working condition. Ben made it clear we could contact him for anything, but we didn't need to! All we had to bring were our clothes and food. Ben & Jessica have thought of and provided everything you will need for making your stay enjoyable. We were thrilled to find 2 beach chairs, plenty of towels and even a cigar cutter! The furnishings & adornments were lovely touches of old-world charm - a good part of my first day was spent wandering the property inside and out, admiring all of the eclectic touches carefully placed throughout. We took on a new activity each day and loved everything. Brewers Bay is down the hill and is exceptional for snorkeling, swimming and lunch at Nicole's. We took a (Speedy's Ferry) trip to Virgin Gorda to explore the fascinating baths, then to VG Yacht Harbor to shower (a sweet $5 deal) and then a romantic dinner at the STUNNING Coco Maya (get reservations). Based on recommendations, we drove to Josiah's Bay and found the most magnificent beach EVER (lunch at Naomi's was great, but very slow). We love Smuggler's Cove, but found the local vendors had disappeared (so bring your own food/drink). MUST HAVE a 4-wheel drive vehicle and a tolerance for steep hills/blind corners. Keep your eye on the cruise ships and if you find a beach saturated with cruisers, just go to another one. You may as well skip Cane Garden Bay if you want privacy. Cute local (affordable) trinkets available at Craft World and best grocery shopping at Rite Way, both in Road town. Soper's Hole is cool for gawking at ginormous boats, but not much else (shopping-meh). The trek out to Shark's Bay point is worth it! Sage Mtn was good exercise, but disappointing views. Mount Healthy is an old sugar mill and an abandoned car?! The dogs at the neighbors house provide security, but are no threat. Your neighbors are goats! We can't wait to come 'home' to Kerensa next year!

My husband and I stayed at Kerensa the last week of Jan. What a wonderful way to celebrate 15 yrs or marriage and my 40th bday. We loved the set up of the house and pool. We could not have found a more relaxing and beautiful home to stay in! The openness of the home puts you right into the island feel and makes it easy to unwind. We WILL be staying here again in the near future! Ben was very accommodating as well. He met us at the ferry and we followed him to Kerensa in our rented Jeep. (Highly recommend a vehicle to get around the island) Some highlights for us.... Cane Garden Bay---Tonys beach bar Trunk Bay--Hard to get too but worth it Rouge Bay--no one there and beautiful Smugglers Cove-- great snorkeling Voyage Day Cruise to Norman Is---best day charter company and we did others. But honestly the best part was staying at Kerensa. You could stock the frig and stay there for days without leaving if you chose to!

From the moment we arrived until the last walk up the 39 stairs to the car on our last day we had the most awesome vacation. This location is truly unbelievable , the photos on line are really reflective this house. The house is in great repair and was very clean. I have recommended this property to many of our friends and family since we returned. We had wonderful dinners at Sebastains on the Beach and the Bananakeet restaurants. To wake up each morning to such beauty was incredible. My husband and I wanted a special place to celebrate our 30 years together and we found it. Ben is an awesome host, he made sure we had every thing we needed and made us feel very comfortable. We had a problem with the hot tub and he took care of it within hours. My only regret is that we did not stay for two weeks, next year!

This was my husband's & I first trip to Tortola & it couldn't have come at a better time. A few days before our departure date, hurricane Sandy came onshore and devasted our hometown of Seaside Park, NJ. Our town & home was declared uninhabitable so we packed up our belongings and moved into our family's house. A few days later we departed JFK for a well deserved vacation. We flew into Beef Island and met the owner Ben who was very friendly & hospitable and followed him to Kerensa (which is a must). When we were following down the unpaved & unlit driveway, I knew this place was going to be something special. I work in the travel & tourism industry and have traveled to many destinations and Kerensa is in my top 3. This place was spectacular! The view was breathtaking...it's Heaven on Earth. Besides the first class location, Kerensa is a first class vacation home with all of the high-end amenities such as a Weber grill, Viking range, stainless steal fridge with filtered water and ice maker, Bose system with surround sound, flat screen tv, high end blender, comfortable furniture, quality bath & beach towels, Crabtree & Evelyn bath products, a crystal clear & clean hot tub & infinity pool and many more amenities. This place was worth every penny! When we arrived to Tortola, we planned on eating out every night but the view & sunset at Kerensa paralyzed us & it was very difficult to leave each night so we went grocery shopping & ate most of our meals on the patio overlooking the best view in Tortola. Keep in mind that Kerensa borders Mt. Healthy national park, so when the sun goes down, the bugs do come out but there was Off & citronella candles on hand. Driving around Tortola can be a little stressful as you must drive on the left side of the road & the hills are pretty steep but you get used to it after the first day or two and it becomes quite an adventure. I highly recommend renting a vehicle. As far as things to do, I would recommend snorkeling & paddle boarding in Brewers Bay & surfing in Apple Bay. While in Apple Bay, you must go to the Bomba Shack and have a Bomba punch. We also took a ferry over to Virgin Gorda and snorkeled at the Baths & ventured thru the Caves. This place was unreal & is a must see. The locals in the BVI were super nice & very helpful when it came to finding places off the beaton path. Overall, If you are looking for a quiet, private & relaxing location then I highly recommend staying at Kerensa. We will be back for sure!

Kerensa was the best place that my husband and I have ever experienced in our 25 years of marriage. It was everything a couple could ask for. The accommodations were spectacular. Ben and Jess did it right, from the home to the pool to the jacuzzi. We were very content with spending the majority of our time at Kerensa. The kitchen was spectacular! There was a Viking stove, full sized fridge, cookware and knives to make great meals drink wine and watch the sun go down. The porches were also great for drinking coffee and then taking a dip in the infinity edge pool while looking over the beautiful water, mountains and out to other islands. Kerensa is secluded. You will need a 4x4 to navigate the island. Ben and Jess supplied us with good snorkel equipment and beach chairs. Our favorite beach was 3 minutes away at Brewers Bay. It was fun to drive all over and experience that many different and diverse regions of Tortola. We especially loved the fact that there are no commercial restaurants or shops. Don't expect tacky souvenir shops here-it is truly and authentic experience. Thank-you Ben and Jess for sharing your passion of hospitality, nature, fine food and drink. You were more than accommodating during our stay. Thank-you so much for all the comfort!

My husband and I spent a week at Kerensa and it was truly amazing! We travel every year and this was our best vacation in our 18 years together. Absolutely loved the quiet, privacy, gorgeous views, pool, house, etc. This was the first time we rented a villa and we can't imagine staying in a hotel room again. We explored Tortola but spent every afternoon and evening on the property, Ben and Jess have thought of everything. Thanks for creating such a wonderful hideaway, we can't wait to come back.

              Year Purchased: 1998

About the owner: Jessica is a native born Tortolan while Ben is originally from Cornwall in the UK. We live a few miles along the coast from Kerensa with our two young children. We also run The Last Resort, a well known restaurant and bar in Trellis Bay

Why the Owner Chose Brewers Bay:
We bought the land in 1998 because of the seclusion and the amazing views and then built the house a few years later. We originally planned to build several villas on the large plot but loved the fact that Kerensa was so private that we decided to keep it that way.
