This property is so special. We loved coming back here each night to barbeque and just relax after snorkeling, driving to Hana and beyond, and visiting the hectic touristy places. I'm so glad we opted for this rather than a condo in west Maui. We slept like logs, with the sliders open and the (almost) nightly downpours lulling us. Work and the pace of the mainland were forgotten within 24 hours. This is the "jungle" side of Maui, and feels really peaceful and rural. The ocean is visible off the gorgeous front lawn, but you have to drive a few miles to a beach. (This is on a cliff).
Recommended for:Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I rented the lovely cottage on this 2+ acre estate for one month, mid-March to mid-April. We found the location and cottage to be even better than it looked on the website. To wake up with the birds singing cheerfully, the trade winds blowing gently through the slider, and the fresh smells of blooming flowers was sheer ectasy. Mind you we left the cold and dreariness of Cape Cod in March! Over a month's time we pretty much had the estate to ourselves. We loved walking across the lawn to see how big the north shore swells were or listen to the birds in the ravine below. The neighborhood was also a great place to walk, see lovely homes and vistas, buy local eggs and flowers, and meet friendly neighbors. Almost every day we took off to explore new beaches all over the island, find hidden hiking paths or special spots for snorkeling. Must do experiences while on the island include: the road to Hana (go all the way around, stopping to see Lindberg's grave, and sample the homemade tacos roadside), the Halelakala crater (where my husband played the bagpipes), go counterclockwise on West Maui and plan to snorkel at Honolua Bay and boogie board at D.L.Fleming Beach, north of Lahina. Our favorite boat trip was a 2 hour ride on the AMERICA II, a fast, wet sleigh ride in the afternoon during which we spotted many whales. We found the overlook for JAWS, the famous big wave spot, and saw it at 25'. Lastly, if you have a chance go to the beautiful little Keawala'i Cong. Church in Makena on a Sunday. The service opens by blowing giant conch shells and the service is conducted in both Hawaiian and English. Bring your bathing suits, change in the bathhouse across the street and walk just down the road for a lovely beach to spend your Sunday on! As expected, food costs are high. We joined Costco while there but also found that the K-Mart and Walmart have many food items. During the week there is a fresh fruit and vegetable mart in the K-Mart parking lot in Kahului. I loved Makawao for its quaint and interesting shops. Don't miss the pizza at the Flatbread Factory in Paia! And a must is Mana Foods in Paia for both its variety of foods and interesting people. I would highly recommend this property for a couple, a family or a family reunion. It would also make a perfect wedding venue for a small gathering as there are 7 bedrooms between the three buildings on the property. The owners were generous in loaning beach equipment and very pleasant to work with.

This was the second year that we stayed in the cottage. It is so clean, airy and spacious. Each night we had a great tropical cross-breeze by leaving the sliders open. And there are wonderful bird songs in the AM. Cooking is fun in the well appointed kitchen. We especially love having breakfast and doing yoga on the lawn each morning. Very quiet and private with easy access to the joyous activities on Maui. The owner is very responsive to questions and the landscape is beautiful and well maintained.

My wife and I just returned from Maui. Of all the highlights, the one constant was coming back to our studio in the evenings. A wonderful retreat from the busier side of the island (a short drive). Exceptionally well maintained in a quiet, secluded upscale neighborhood, the studio had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. We especially enjoyed spending time in the colorful local community of Paia with the Mana Market grocery store and Anthony's Coffee as part of our daily routine. The owner was exceptionally helpful in providing an insider's view what to do in Maui. Highly recommend this place if you can get a date on their calendar!

What a lovely retreat! Our family of four enjoyed our two week stay here immensely. The owners are very accommodating. Our young children loved running around on the huge lawn. The cottage is pristine. We hope to return someday soon!
