The Perfect Wedding

Guest: T-money (Chicago)
Date of Stay: 03/08/09 Review Submitted: 08/11/10

We rented The Corey House, Heritage Place, and the Yellow Cottage at the same time. It was amazing. It accommodated our entire wedding party (about 20 people), so nobody stayed in a hotel. My parents in particular stayed with my brother and his wife in the Corey House. They absolutely loved it, and said that it was 10x better than staying at a hotel. They went to the grocery mart up the street and got things for breakfast and were able to use the kitchen for a homemade breakfast everyday. A semi-private beach is right down the street for a little fun in the sun. What can I say, all three places were perfect.

Fantastic place that we highly recommend

My family and I stayed at the Heritage place in the first part of January 2010 and have nothing but rave reviews for this property. It is walking distance to a very nice beach, and a short drive away from La Jolla village. The place was very clean and is a very good place to consider for large groups, especially when you factor in the other two houses on the property. The owner/manager were very helpful in resolving any questions/issues, and were very prompt in completing all paperwork (contract, refund of security deposit, etc.). I would recommend this property to all friends and family, and am confident that you will find this a relaxing place to enjoy La Jolla/San Diego. Curt

Magical place for a family reunion

Guest: MollyAZ (Phoenix, Arizona)
Date of Stay: 12/11/09 Review Submitted: 04/16/10

My family filled this beautiful, rambling home to capacity (13) last winter for an extended family reunion combined with an 80th birthday party for my mom. We couldn't have had a better space for it! This home has undergone a beautiful remodel that still allows for the historic character of the house to remain. Remarkably, the bedrooms all felt private, in spite of the large expanses of communal space in the middle of the home. The home has several levels, providing lots of spaces for impromptu meetings or for taking a moment for quiet and privacy. There were several cooks among us, and all were very pleased to find everything we could want in the kitchen. For any given meal, we had 4-5 people involved preparing and cooking, and there was more than enough room for everyone. The walk to the beach was easy, and it was a pleasant stroll past lovely homes on quiet streets. The beach itself was also perfect. From the 6 year old to the 82 year old, even in December, all agreed that there just wasn't enough time by the water. To top it off, when I needed to reach out to the management company about some items that were left behind by a family member, they were friendly and responsive, and their cleaning staff had already brought them the items for safe-keeping. Overall, we had a magical three days at Heritage Place, and my family agrees we will try to return to the same property again for a future reunion.

Heritage Place

Guest: grandma9 (Columbia, Maryland)
Date of Stay: 12/26/09 Review Submitted: 04/12/10

Heritage Place had a great space for our large family gathering. The listing description and location were accurate and convenient. The property was clean and looked good, but there were some minor maintenance problems that we reported and were resolved. Southern California Renals was terrific to work with and happily answered my many questions. I would recommend the place to others.

Owner response:Thanks Grandma9 :) We are here to help. No matter what the issue is, we are here in the neighborhood and able to resolve even the biggest property issue. That way you can enjoy your vacation instead of worrying about getting things fixed.

Couldn't have found a better place for our vacation

Guest: Brenda+family (Austin TX)
Date of Stay: 04/05/10 Review Submitted: 04/12/10

The Heritage Place was the PERFECT home for our family vacation. There is more than enough space for everyone with the two master suite bedrooms, huge kitchen and living room area, big yard and jacuzzi. We walked to the beach every day. Everything was in working order and very well maintained. It felt like we were staying in someone's well cared for home instead of a rental home. Both Missy and Heather were very helpful and went above and beyond what we expected. Missy even helped us find a babysitter for an adult evening out. We will definitely be back and would recommend this home to anyone interested.

Owner response:Thank you Brenda. We enjoyed having you and your family stay with us and look forward to your next trip to visit us too.

Cool preperty, but less than perfect experience

Guest: Too bad.... (Denver)
Date of Stay: 03/21/10 Review Submitted: 03/30/10

My family stayed at the Heritage House over the week of March 22, 2010. The house itself and the properties that comprise the 'compound' are lovely and the grounds are impeccably maintained. However, it should be noted that the property sits on a major street, so the traffic noise is considerable. We were delighted upon initial inspection of the home. We opted to rent a house for our spring break vacation (instead of a staying in a hotel) since the amenities of a house make traveling with three small children easier. However, at arrival we were informed by the property mgr that the dishwasher, clothes washer AND refrigerator were all broken. Our groceries were placed in a cooler, and we were directed to a washer that belonged to another house on the property. We were assured that everything would be remedied within 24 hours. At that point, I asked about turning on the heated floors which were so glowingly touted in the property description. We were told that the floors were also not working. After requesting to speak with the owner, we received a message from the owner's rep explaining the time frame for the repair of the appliances, which happened the next day. Never once apologizing, she simply ended the message to call back if we had additional questions. We called the next day and expressed that we should be compensated in some way. The simple logic here was to hold this property to the same standards as a 4-star hotel, which seemed appropriate given the cost to rent the house. Imagine checking into a hotel room and finding these problems. We expected flawless delivery as described in the listing. (It should be noted sticky notes were placed on the floor thermostats requesting they be left on the 'off' position. When we arrived, we were told that this is because the floors were not working. On the phone, we were told that the floors were working, but the owner requested people leave them off because it was expensive to heat the floors. For the record, we did turn on the floors, and they were not working.) The owner's rep told us that they would call the owner and get back to us regarding our compensation requests. (They had both of our cell phones numbers). As of writing this review, a week has passed, our trip has concluded, and no one has called. Unfortunately, as a result, we cannot give this property a glowing review due to an unsatisfactory level of basic customer service principles given the myriad of issues we experienced.

Owner response:I am very sorry to see that this renter left unhappy and feeling like he did not receive good service. He clearly did not realize it, but he did speak directly to the owner of the company. I am the owner and I am who called him immediately after his first request to speak to me (above he states it was the owner's rep). I also spoke with him over the phone while he was at the property and did apologize for the inconveniences. Our onsite manager, who lives next door interacted with him daily and he spoke to our office staff throughout his stay. In addition, we sent him a 10% discount (check was mailed before this review was posted) along with an apology letter, the appliances were fixed within 24hours of his arrival and it was simply a miscommunication about the floors. This renter arrived on a Sunday. When the previous guests checked out Saturday evening, we became aware the washing machine was broken and the refrigerator was not cooling. We had a brand new washing machine delivered and installed on Monday morning and gave them use of the washing machine at the Corey House (which was vacant) right next door in the interim. We had a Viking appliance repair person come check the refrigerator on Monday morning as well who determined that the previous renters had not closed the freezer all the way so the cooling element for the refrigerator had frozen over. He defrosted the cooling element and the refrigerator was working again and cool within a couple hours. The dishwasher was never broken. The water flow was not as strong as it used to be so we had the repair man check it too and he was able to adjust the jet streams. Finally, the heated floors do work. We have notes on the thermostats asking people not to turn them on because they are always being left on and it wastes energy. People don't realize they are left on because you can't feel the heat from the floors, especially in our climate. These heaters are meant for cold/snowy climates where heated concrete is essential to be livable. The heating element warms the flooring. It does not heat it. I believe this renter expected more from the floor feature than was realistic and that is why he was disappointed. We feel horrible that this renter felt his stay was only worth a 2 star review. We pride ourselves on prompt, friendly and effective customer service. Our goal is to make sure our guests have an enjoyable vacation. I am sorry that was not the case this time, despite all our efforts.
