Total Convenience in Vail
Total Convenience in Vail
The location of this condo can not be beat. It is literally a few steps from the gondola and lift like it says and right in the adorable town of Lionshead. We are a family with three boys ages 16, 15 and 11 and loved the fact that if my husband and I wanted to come off of the slopes early the boys could come down the mountain when they were ready, hand their equipment to the concierge and meet us at the condo. No transportation or worry or coordinating necessary. They could also walk to and from town, etc. and have a lot of freedom. Having said that, while there is a very convenient parking spot right next to the unit, you don't need a car if you don't want one. Everything is right there. To address the last reviewer's issues, while the unit itself is not open and airy (as it has no big windows or views), it has everything necessary for the traveler who plans to spend most of their trip outside skiing and sightseeing which is the point of a Vail vacation. If you want to read a book and take in the scenerey (which I did a few times) it is very comfortable to sit right upstairs near the fire in the lobby in front of the window where you can see the gondola and the skiiers coming off the mountain. Some of the units may be more updated but I think the price reflects that. Regarding the staff we had absolutely no issue with anyone. They were cheerful helpful and always offering hot chocolate, cider, cookies, information etc. In addition, the owner of the unit met us upon our arrival, gave us a tour, helped us get the best deal on our ski equipment (which by the way is right down the hall from the unit so you never even need to go outside - you walk down the hall, get your ski gear and bring it back down to hall to the condo). She also checked in a few times to make sure everything was okay and when we arrived home in New York without my son's cell phone she went out of her way to have it fedexed to us the next day. Another thing worth noting for those with young children is that gondola near the condo takes you directly to the Vail Adventure program for children with tubing, snow biking, sliding, snow mobiles etc. Really really fun.

A more balanced review
A more balanced review
This review is written to provide a more balanced perspective on this property than that provided by the sole other (5-star) review. We booked here for our family's ski vacation based on the review just mentioned, the description of the property, and the price. Our experience was very different from the other review. Here are the issues: - we understood and accepted the fact that was no view, and that's fine. - the unit is very "out of place" in the level of quality of bathroom, bedding, furniture etc. compared to other units in the building It needs a MAJOR remodel to get it up to same quality - the unit is small - the toilet wasn't working properly - the space is essentially a painted cinderblock-walled basement space - there was a dank damp basement smell to the unit. - there was palpable resentment from LSL sstaff relating to everything from concierge services to cookies to wifi to the restaurant (this is the only unit that cannot charge to the room) related to the unit we were in. The last thing you want on vacation is to be treated like a pariah. So - inexpensive and great location. But the lack of view is NOT the only issue here. It's suitable for college kids on a budget, in our opinion NOT a family coming for a Vail vacation: There are units at other properties close by for less $ yet very nice, bright and spacious.

Owner response: I usually meet & greet my guests, show them the unit and the facilities, introduce them to the staff, and encourage them to call me if there is a problem. It is a shame that I was out of town when these renters arrived and they did not call me when there was a problem. I am very responsive (see comments of others here and for my listing #72893). I initiated contact with these renters upon my return and immediately addressed their concerns: * The toilet was 'running' and needed a new flap, which was replaced within a few hours. * The living room area rugs they thought caused the 'dank' smell were immediately removed, but that was not the problem. A subsequent visit from the maintenance dept. suggested the washer/dryer lint was retaining humidity in the unit. The walls surrounding the w/d area were cleaned, removing any lint, and the smell disappeared. * I talked with management regarding the apparent problem with staff. They apologized for any misunderstanding and will be more gracious. It is not possible to charge restaurant meals to a room they don't manage, but most guests don't mind using a credit card. * The wifi is free for all to use, and the code is usually written on the key card pamphlet. * The walls are painted wood-paneling & drywall, not cinderblock (see the photos). The unit is on the second floor, with light from windows and French doors, but it does face the wall that leads to the covered parking structure - hence, no view, but a parking spot is 7 steps from back door. * The bathroom has nice tile, but not granite. The kitchen has granite and oak and appliances that are about 5 years old (Asko dishwasher). * The sheets and comforters are as shown in the photos. There is now a new sheet/comforter set in the second bedroom. * I will be replacing the current leather chair with a newer leather chair. I update every few years as needed based upon renters' feedback (eg. new Sony flat-screen with HD; Blue Ray DVD player; iPod docking stations). * The condo is precisely as shown in the photos and represented on the website. Although not "platinum-rated" like the one across the hall, it is a nice, comfortable condo that provides families or 3-4 adults the option of a smaller 2-bedroom for the price of a 1-bedroom with fabulous amenities at the best true ski-in/ski-out location in Vail.
SUPER LOCATION!! CONVENIENT, WARM, FRIENDLY - We'll come back!
SUPER LOCATION!! CONVENIENT, WARM, FRIENDLY - We'll come back!
This was the best location we've ever stayed at! When they say "Ski-in/Ski-out" they really mean it! We were able to walk right out to the slopes and never had to worry about carrying gear for blocks or parking far away like on other vacations. This place made us feel so welcome and comfortable, and it was so EASY! The owner had everything ready for us when we arrived, and she even came over to give us a tour of the resort! The kids LOVED the heated pool and hot tub, and it was so convenient to have the big locker rooms right there so we could all shower right after hot tubbing and noone got cold because we didn't have to walk outside wet. THe condo was equipped with everything, and the master was really spacious. The kids thought the bunk beds were fun, and the lower one was big enough for 2 of them, so all 3 kids were able to sleep in beds (though they fought over the top bunk!). My husband and I loved that we could go up to the restaurant for dinner and let the kids stay in the condo without a sitter (they are 8,10, and 12) because it's in the same building. There was no view from the condo, but we were skiing during the day, so that wasn't a big deal. We loved the convenience of having the parking spot right next to the condo since we went to the grocery store a lot. We could ski right down to the condo for lunch, save a lot of money, and warm up with the free hot chocolate! I'd recommend this condo to anyone who wants convenience and value. WE'll come back for sure!

About the owner: After growing up on the icy slopes of the East, it was always my dream to live in Colorado and ski the fluffy powder! I made that happen and moved to Vail to raise my daughters in this magnificent setting that offers so much. As a psychologist, I know the importance of having a hassle-free vacation to 'rejuvenate' and make the most of your time off! Having owned our 2 condos at LionSquare Lodge since the girls were 1 & 5, I can't imagine a more convenient way to enjoy the slopes and amenities for families with children at any age. Vail offers the best of everything to adults and children, teens and singles. From the time my girls were little, LIonSquare Lodge has been their 'other' home, with its friendly, warm, ambiance that is welcoming and convenient. This unparalleled location has 'spoiled' us, and now we want to spoil YOU! Come stay with us here, and you'll keep coming back!
